Seriously this guy is a good reviewer so I wanted to give him a shout out here.

He has a laid back and humerous style of reviewing and good production values compared to all the AVGN clones.

At first I didn't want to watch this. I hadn't realized that there are TONS of wannabe "reviewers" out there. Most of the people are just peopl that have a bunch of games and want to show off and talk about them but this guy is pretty decent. I like the fact that he talks about some lesser known stuff and has a decent knowlege of them and even goes into emulation and how that is for whatever. Good stuff, I subscribed.

and even goes into emulation
There's really nothing special about that - it's pretty much the standard for "Let's Play" type stuff, everybody does it now. People playing on real equipment are in the minority now.

Hasty edit: This is not a sign of disapproval for this particular rev'r; of my two favorite funny Youtube reviewers, one (Rob aka xoxak (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vAO6akjqdg)) uses original systems and I assume expensive video equipment, while the other (DeceasedCrab) uses emulation. Most of the others whose videos I check now and then use emulation (besides Twiddle, who records off his 360 for his Raiden Fighters Aces reviews).

Ugh, that Kings of the Beach review is just awful. It's an underrated game with some potentially funny flaws, but he chose to ignore all that and focus on the "i'm bad at volleyball IRL, i have no friends, look how hard it is to spike, look at the crazy graphics on the box" aspect.

It's not hard AT ALL to get the controls down. It's like someone reviewing a Mario game and saying "oh god those bullet bills are just impossible, look how crazy everything is"

He doesn't use emulation but he points out whether there is emulation for it and if there is he points out anything worth noting like as if the sound doesn't work properly with emulation or if it's possible to put a game on a disc and play it on the system and what to use if you want to find out. Nothing major but I just like the fact that emulation actually exist in his world.

I agree that the Kings of the Beach review wasn't that great. However, I have enjoyed several of his previous videos. It's mostly his dry humor, where he sounds a little apathetic but still has good timing with his comments that I appreciate. I hope he keeps posting new stuff.

He sounded a little under the weather in his latest video and the beach theme didn't quite work as well as it could have. It was funny seeing him start digging in the sand for a game and I wish he would have carried that bit further. Finding cool stuff in sand is always funny to me because it goes back to that Pete and Pete episode where they find a car burried in the sand.

LG has moved into my top 3 game reviewers along with AVGN and Spoony.

I like when he does console or system reviews. I also hope he eventually tackles stuff like the Apple Pippen or the even rarer NUON games. He is really good at presenting the good and bad points of a console or computer.

Yea completely awesome reviewer. However I'm kind've sad he didn't do a overall review of the C64(he only did a few specific game rewiews) like he did for the Atari 2600, , Gen/sega CD, and the VIC 20(lol, fankly I'm surprised anyone actually owned a VIC 20, with Atari pretty much cornering the gaming market in the 70s).

Edit: Oh nvm, I found it, he did do a C64 review.

PS. OMG you guys have to watch him review the sega X32, It's funny as hell(and so true).

I should have more stuff up starting this weekend. Some 90's games are in the works, not really any consoles. Might be looking at some SNES games though, but still mostly focusing on home computers.

ReaXan
03-11-2011, 04:32 AM
was going to say that I like the MS-DOS niche you found but would be cool if you could visit a home console now and then like you did with the 3DO/2600/Sega CD since you do a good reviewing home consoles better than most people :)

btw, if u could review the Space Quest series by Sierra I could die a happy janitor as it was my favorite dos game as a kid.

phreakindee
03-11-2011, 08:01 AM
Yeah, I have nothing against console games, it's just so many of them are "overdone" by other reviewers already so to speak. I've found I can put my own spin on things though and I've branched off onto a few console games recently, like Cho Aniki and Halo 2600, as well as The Need For Speed console ports and SMB2j a few months back.

I recently came into possession of Super Noah's Ark 3D so I will definitely be reviewing that one at some point! But computers (IBM PC and otherwise) are probably going to stay my driving focus for the time being.

As for Space Quest, I do hope to get to that sometime soonish! I was recently donated the first game by a viewer, and having never played it before I'm pretty psyched.

ReaXan
03-12-2011, 04:50 AM
Yeah I was going to say you have done an excellent job reviewing the IBM PC and all its variants throughout the years. I enjoy watching the side by sides as well as the upgrades u do to some of the machines.

Any plans for a PC-FX review?

I don't know how I would be playing with a keyboard on an NES, so no, I am actually that bad. I guess I'm not a true "gamer" since every gamer is automatically pro at SMB2j their first playthrough

As for the PCFX.... Sure, I'll review it! I will just need to own one first and that is the current problem.

Judging from his blog, nope.

Correct, still no partnership. Each time I apply I get rejected within an hour or two, always for the same reason: "Insufficient original content" or something like that.

They're at least allowing me to post some ads here and there, which resulted in a few pennies rolling my way so far. Whoopty-doo.

I really don't care, I'm having fun making the videos, the show's getting more and more popular and I'm meeting awesome people (and amazingly entertaining trolls). So I've no complaints!

Jesus really? how much original content do they need?

Do they mean that:
1. you need more original videos (e.g. more videos), or
2. you need more original content in your original videos

Regardless, I'd think given your videos count, and the length and qualities of your videos, you'd be a shoe in.

I was surprised lately when halfblindgamer was made a youtube partner and not you. Don't get me wrong, I love halfblindgamer's stuff (especially his CD-i stuff), but you've put out more videos lately by a margin.

I really don't know what they're referring to, as there is no clarification as to what that means.

I make a point to follow the rules and every single one of my videos are created entirely by me. I don't know how much more original they can get. And it can't be quantity, as I know partners with far less videos than me and who upload less frequently. And it's not viewer or sub count, I'm way beyond what many partners were when they got accepted. If you look at any listed requirements for the program, I surpass them all quite a bit.

I've talked to several people who have entered into the partnership program with channels very similar to mine, and we all went through the same steps. Some channels get accepted with no problem, some like mine seem to get rejected endlessly with only an extremely vague reason.

I've stopped applying altogether, as I see no point anymore. All this for what, custom thumbnails, a sub button and a banner on my front page? I just don't care enough to hassle with it.

LGR just uploaded a 27 year retrospective video on "Streets of Sim City" recently.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCzLGoH_IdQ

"Streets," for anyone unfamiliar, was sort of a stand-alone game but one that you could import your SimCity 2000 Cities into. The same can be said of SimCopter. However, where SimCopter is more of a solid experience (though my immersion is broken since I have a difficult time imagining that I'm the only guy in an entire city who can call emergency services,) Streets is more janky and twitchy and liable to crash on you even under optimal hardware conditions.

I first played the game when I was probably 6 to 8 years old, and Dad bought it for me in a 3 pack that included Sim City 2000, Streets, and Sim Copter. I've never bothered to finish the game. Even so, this... Janky pile of garbage is kind of a charming janky pile of garbage. Why? I don't know. Maybe it's just that it's a Sim game that you can import your cities into, or maybe it's because it's sort of a ripoff of Twisted Metal, or maybe I just like the nostalgia for being a 6 to 8 year old with my computer volume way too loud. Whatever the case, the goofy game interests me.

1) I never like PowerRangers until later ( like recently ) in my life.
2) I was a Nintendo-pion fan. If it was Nintendo I had to have it. "Do the Mario"
3) SEGA was the "other-team" and I did not want to play for it. Sure it was cool, hip,
darker, but could never defy the cuteness and kawaii of the NES or SNES glory. Getting
a converter for my SNES open me to enjoy many import titles on my SNES, which I still
use today. That being said the MD ( Genesis ) had a lock-out system and I was not into
RPG games until the MarioRPG / Breath Of Fire III / FFVII hit the shelves. Phantasy Star
never had any commercials as far as I could remember. I think the biggest commercial
that I cared about was "get down with Zelda" GB.

Honestly SEGA artists in the west was on fire. They did a way better job then what was
being done in Japan. However I wonder if US marketing would switch gears with JP marketing.
Because the prior SMS/MarkIII artwork was god-smack. Then it came back in the Dreamcast
where the Japanese art was god-smack but the US art did that
"In your face close-up anime/micket thing"

The "FM sound" was in via the MarkIII add-on or built into games. The Genesis FM sound was
auwsome. Most of the SEGA CD games that was fun was from Japan. Even so "Call of the Dragon" was something to own. Because the SEGA CD version has actual audio ( voices ) despite the drop in color from the Amiga or even the DOS version. Snatcher utilize the light gun, but again censored and drop in color.

Again most of the more interesting games was from Japan. The problem with this system it was like $200 more on top of a Genesis. Many
parents said no!!!!!
