View Full Version : Aside from the X-Arcade stick, did Gamecube ever get an arcade pad?

I've never seen one anywhere bar the X-Arcade one.

Hori's Soul Calibur stick had a Gamecube version. Don't know if it was Jpn only or if there was a US release. There's also the Pelican Real Arcade stick monstrosity that supported Gamecube/PS2/Xbox.

There are also adapters like the playcube that will let you use any PS1/PS2 controller on the gamecube. No L1 button though...

The Hori GC Stick was released in Japan only AFAIK. Nuby Soul Calibur 2 Universal Stick was PS2/XBox/GC and released in the US though.

Was I the only one that really liked this stick?

My question would be....if you had a nice GC arcade stick, what would you play? Any joystick-worthy games that aren't on other, more controller-blessed systems?

There were a few third party sticks for the Gamecube:

and

Dragoncube Power Stick

I'm sure I've seen others....

I've heard the Pelican's are not bad. I almost completed a buy it now on a set on eBay a while back. The seller seemed kinda loopy to me, and that's what made me balk.

Soul Calibur 2 of course and Ikaruga... Unless you have access to an import friendly DC. GBA games too. More GBA than GC really.

I've used the sticks for fighting and shooting games on the Cube and Wii. And via a USB adapter for playing MAME :)

Not so much exclusives, but retro compilations like Sonic Gems. Also Capcom vs. SNK 2.

I'm pretty sure I've tried Sonic Gems with digital only controllers on my GameCube and it didn't work. Requires a controller to have a analog stick, despite digital controls on a GameCube gamepad working in the game and that every game in it originally used digital controls.

That's called preference. It doesn't matter if it's Viewtiful Joe, Mega Man Anniversary Collection, or Sonic Mega Collection... I always use the dpad, no matter what.

If anyone comes across one of those sticks, let me know, I'd love to buy them. I also have found many PS2 to GC adapters, and a PS2 arcade stick would then fit the bill.

Heh. I own the Soul Calibur stick and didn't even realize it was a Japan exclusive.

Huh?

I assume you were replying to me. If so, you didn't read my post very carefully since your reply doesn't make any sense.

I inserted "only" into it, but I thought it was obvious what I was saying before that edit. Its not a preference, it plain doesn't work with digital controllers (Arcade sticks, Hori digital gamepad, Nes & SuperNes controllers through the Retroport adapters). You can only use digital controls when analog is also present on the controller for some idiotic reason, which also affects a handful of other classic compilations and 2d titles across all three last generation platforms.

So unless my memory is misleading me (In which case, its another classic compilation on the GameCube where the games originally used digital controls and yet the emulation programmers decided to disable digital only controllers), don't buy a arcade stick for Sonic Gems Collection. It isn't going to work.

And if anyone has a nice SuperNes arcade stick (I have the ASCII FightStick), the RetroPort (And I assume the upcoming Innex adapter) allows you to use it as a GameCube and Wii arcade stick (In games that support GameCube controllers) in case you never thought about using an adapter and don't want to track down a uncommon arcade stick produced for the GameCube (Or an expensive X-Arcade stick).
