As if we didn't need any more reason to be envious of Japan's Game Archives service on the PSN. The US and European PSN services are just now starting to finally see an increase in actual classics coming to the PSOne Classics service, but it turns out Japan is already so far ahead that they're actually getting games that weren't even released on the original PlayStation.

Sony Japan has announced that they're starting to branch out from exclusively delivering PlayStation releases on the Game Archives service by rolling out four PC Engine/TurboGrafx 16 games. Starting today, Japanese gamers (and those who have access to the Japanese PSN) will be able to download the following:

Bomberman '94
New Adventure Island (Takahashi Meijin no Shin Boukenjima)
Sengoku Mahjong
Devil Crush
All of the above titles carry JP¥ 600 (around US$ 6) and are playable on both PS3 and PSP. More games from the system will be released in the future, although Sony declined to give any indication if they'll also be releasing games from other platforms. Neither did they reveal if the US and EU PSN will get TurboGrafx 16 games as well.

Nonaka Ryutaro, the producer for Sega's Valkyria Chronicles, has told Famitsu before that they're interested in doing a sequel for the critically-lauded tactical RPG-slash-third-person shooter. The very same magazine has now revealed that there is indeed a sequel coming, but it won't be for the PS3.

According to a Famitsu translation from PSPHyper, the next chapter in the Valkyria Chronicles saga has been confirmed to be a PSP title called Senjou no Valkyria 2 Gallia Royal Academy. Turns out that editing mistake that Sony made at last year's E3 was actually kinda prophetic.

The sequel will be set two years after the first game. The setting will be a Gallian school named Randgriz Royal Academy where the hero is a probational officer forced into action when civil war erupts. Some of the new characters are profiled below.

The original game's BLiTZ system has been enhanced for the sequel along with the leveling up system. Camouflage will play a larger role in battles and so will tanks. The number of custom parts for the latter have also been increased. Multiplayer has yet to be confirmed, but PSPHyper notes that there are hints that point towards it.

What hasn't changed is the development team. The PS3 team is still handling dev work for this one, so we can expect quality near the original. The Canvas rendering engine has also been adapted to work for the PSP and will be used in Senjou no Valkyria 2 Gallia Royal Academy.

Senjou no Valkyria 2 Gallia Royal Academy is slated for a fall release in Japan. If you liked the PS3 original, better hope like hell that they decide to release this title overseas as well.

I don't really care about the TG16 games coming out, because I could emulate the games on the PSP. Just like the Wii, I won't spend money on data of games that have came out over a decade ago(disc versions on the other hand *edit* or Hucard.)

The original Valkyria Chronicles was a great game so hoping we get the PSP version. What sucks is that Valkyria Chronicles sold like crap over here so we might not even get it.

I've always been interested in trying Ys book 1&2. I wonder what the chances are they would release that.

I guess that's nice if you don't have a wii for down loading (TG16) games.Though by the time i get a (PS3) i won't mess with that.Given i all ready have a (PCE&TG16) and a good collection of games for it all ready.I realy think, sony needs to push more on getting arcade games for the psn.

Im a bit pissed that VC2 is going to be a PSP game, I dont really want to play the game on a handheld. I havent used my PSP in like 2 years so it will give me a reason to use it. There was a lot of inbalancing issues, lack of multiplayer and a lot of other issues I had with the first and hope they are addressed, but I had my heart on a console sequel. Its still a definite buy if it makes it over to the states and is on UMD(digital download=no sale).

This is actually pretty damn cool and I may just buy a game or two to get some use out of my PSP.

Yeah I guess maybe so, but I can't play it in HD on my big screen TV with a wireless controller in my hand and be able to take it with me on my psp, so :p.

You're probably right though, just hasn't been at the top of my "priority list" just would be kinda cool or I guess it could just go to hell for all I care.

Man. The new Valkyria Chronicles has some good graphics. Hopefully the gameplay is still just as good.

Well they already re-released it for the DS. Thats some portable goodness right there for you... though not in HD on a massive screen.

They're also remaking it along with making Ys 7 for the PSP.

I hope Sega isn't going for download only. If it is, I am importing.

VC is one of my favorite games. Of course I was disappointed when I heard the sequel was going to PSP, but at least there is a sequel.
