Are you an "old school" or modern gamer and/or collector? Do you shop garage sales, flea markets, eBay? Want to know if you are getting ripped off by your local game store? You owe it to yourself to know what your games are worth.

The Video Game Price Guide contains over 6,000 video game titles and lists prices for complete and incomplete games and systems. The Game Price Guide database is maintained by Video Game Trader, a magazine devoted to video games.

The guide includes pricing information for the following platforms: Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Atari Jaguar, Atari Lynx, Atari XE, Coleco Vision, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Intellivision, NES, SNES, Virtual Boy, Nintendo 64, Odyssey 2, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Sega Game Gear, Sega 32x, Sega CD, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Sega Pico, Turbo Grafx 16, Vectrex & Sony Playstation. More platforms are planned for inclusion with future updates.

WHAT'S NEW IN THIS VERSION:
What's new in version 1.1?

* Added Sony Playstation prices
* Updated all prices
* Added help screen
* Added Details page for each item with a link to VideoGamePriceCharts.com detail page
* Sorted main screen by Manufacturer
* Added ability to jump to specific letter of the alphabet while browsing
* Test with iPhone 3.0 OS

The next update should have the ability to auto-update prices as we release them (about once per month). Also the next version will add 3DO and Game Cube to the platformm list. Also, we are planning a price increase to $1.99 August 1st.

Sincerely,

Tom Sansone

I downloaded the update last night. What I'd like to see is a rarity listing rather than a dollar value. I'm a collector, not an eBay reseller, so the resale price doesn't mean all that much to me. Maybe it can be updated so that it shows a rarity grade next to the game title rather than its dollar price, and then when you click it will show you the price tag. Or possibly you could have that adjustable in a preference pane, so you can have it either way. Just a thought.

Thanks for getting the alphabetical scroll jump on the right side of the screen working. That'll save a whole lot of time! I kept trying to use it in the 1.0 version, and it bugged me that it was there but not working. And thanks for the PS1 listings! Although I'm surprised that the 3DO wasn't already in the app. I guess it's so incredibly rare for me to find any 3DO games, I just never thought of looking the console up in the app.

Do you have any plans to port this to the Blackberry?

I will add "Rarity Information" to my task list. Maybe I can strike a deal with Digital Press to let me use there rarity data in exchange for an ad in the application :)

I am taking my time adding platforms to both the application price guide and the magazine price guide. I want to make sure that the pricing data is at least "in the ballpark"

Thanks,

Tom

Do you have any plans to port this to the Blackberry?

I created the iPhone application because I found a developer that was able to do it very economically for me. If I can find a blackberry developer then I would consider porting it to Blackberry too.

I just wanted to post an update and let everyone know that the next major update is only weeks away. The current price of the app is $1.99 and the price will increase to $2.99 once this next update is released. We are steadily increasing the price until we find a price point that works. The iPhone is a great platform but it is new. This application has been very popular and I thank you all.

The next update will contain a couple key features.

1. It will auto update price once daily from an internet connection. This will allow us to post more frequent pricing updates and will allow us to provide updates to one platform on one day and updates to another the next.

2. We are including our most asked for update. Want/Have list functionality. You will be able to make what you currently have in your collection and what you want. You can then only display the items you either have or want when you are looking at the list. This will be very handy when you are at game shows or thrift shopping.

3. 3DO will be added as well as the more currently platforms.

By the end of the year, every major game platform, including current generation, will be included.

Some of the functionality requested in the post, by Triverse and others, is being considered. One thing on my priority list is to add the ability to search Chasethechuckwagon.com for auctions. I am working with Chase and would love to add other functionality. I think his game auction site is great.

I am also looking to produce a FREE version of the app which would be extremely limited in functionality.

I would love to make this available on other platforms but my developer only programs for the iphone. Any programeers out there that want to work out some kind of co-op venture to port this to other devices? PM me.

Thanks again.

Tom

Well, the app has been recently updated and happily, it's been given the functionality to act as a checklist! I'm really happy about that. But one suggestion... is it possible that, when you check a game off, can the game in the master list be shaded? Maybe light blue when you've checked off that you have it, and light red if you've checked off that you want it. It would make for quicker browsing of games, not having to go to the individual page each time and look at a tiny little checkmark graphic to see if you already have it or not.

Well this app sounds better than the one in the UK that looks for a nearby pay phone.

Anyway, If I had an iPhone I would actually get this app because it actually seems like it would be helpful for me and whatnot.

"Curse my regular phone for not being an iPhone!"

By any chance would your developer know anything about android deveopement tools or anyone that would know how to make android apps?

That would be the next venture out on another platform since the android OS is becomming more popular and common for newer phones.

Is there a way to get the update to appear on my list of updates at the app store? I've had it for a while now, bought it at $1.99, but haven't seen the update thing at all. I've tried reloading the app store as well.

Really? You click on the "Check for updates" link at the bottom of the applications window, and it hasn't updated that one app? That's weird. My app has updated something like three times since I bought it. There's been two revisions so far that I can remember, and then there was the iPhone/iPod Touch OS 3.0 update.

If it's not updating properly, just go find it in the iTunes app store and try to download it again. It shouldn't charge you for it, giving you a message saying that it only considers it a free update download. That's what it did for me in the past.

Sigh, I figured out what the problem is. Apparently I need the 3.0 update to get the update of the VGT. Pretty absurd in my opinion.

videogametrader: Is there anyway to give a specific update for 2.0 firmware so we can get the checklist feature?

Its free only under what the creator agrees upon, they do not have to make it free, that's if they want to.

Though development for the apps is fairly easy and does not have to go through all those rings before its green lit to be sold like apple does with every app.

Its only a suggestion though. I should be getting a G1 soon, from what I have seen there is to be anywhere from 4 to 8 new phones coming out in 2010 that will be android OS supported. As of now there are 2, 3 maybe and that's in America alone. So the android OS is moving on up in the cellphone market..

Thats a good suggestion. After the auto-update is implemented I will ask my developer about it.

Once this app is completed with all planned upgrades, I am going to investigate the Android OS, as well as Blackberry. But this could be a couples years away.

I will ask the developer about a OS 2.0 version. But I don't know if apple will allow it.

Cool, thanks. Was really looking forward to the checklist and I doubt I will ever upgrade to OS 3.0.

Just DL'd it last night - very, very handy. No more carrying photocopied pages from VGT magazine to the fleas. Gotta love technology.

It's a great app, the only thing that seems missing is there's no visual way when scrolling through games to see which ones you have. A little green checkmark (or C or L) next to the game title when you're scrolling through would be nice. That's a minor thing, though, and overall it's really nice!

i meant the OS is free to OEMs to use. hence it will spread like wildfire.

dont get the g1. i have it, its great but now severely shows its age. as the first android phone, it was the test ship for many things, most of which have now been tweaked/fixed.

as of right now, there are 3 android phones in stores in the US, G1, myTouch (basically a G1 minus keyboard ie: crap), and the hero (which is awesome as long as you dont need a real keyboard). Tmobile will get the CLIQ this week (which will blow everything away, as of right now) and Sprint will get the Samsung InstinctQ (i think thats what its called). AT&T will get 1-2 phones before the end of hte year and it is rumored that verizon will get the same.

anyway, port this to android. i'll buy it.

I have been researching awhile and I would say the one phone I would probably get is the CLIQ. Besides that I have T-Mobile I also like to have a keyboard still just because I am not fully out on the idea of having a full touch screen only phone just of yet..

I was looking into the Hero, and it would be the next phone up for me, the only problems is that it lacks the keyboard but mainly its cost will be high. The teflon coating of the phone would be a great selling point for me having a touch phone without ever worrying about smudging and whatnot but unless its for a cheaper price than the CLIQ then it will not be obtainable by me..

But back on track if this does come out for the Android OS I will buy it in an instant...

Ditto, only add one more color for complete and loose and the ability to put multiple copys of the same game in, with the two colors that represent complete and loose dividing the name if you have a complete and loose copy.
Same if you want another copy.

Try hard resetting your phone. Then try it again. If that doesn't fix the problem, please let me know.

12-10-2009, 10:22 AM
Wow, okay, that seems to have fixed it thanks. I didn't even think to try a hard shutdown! most of the time I do a soft shutdown after an update or DL.

BTW I love the new favorites with the categories instead of the massive list.

The only other things I want for this app. is:

Someway to see if I have/want the system/game from the master list if the color method above can't be done maybe putting a small H or W on the left of the name can. So, if you have a loose system and want it complete it would look something like this.

*
H ----name of system/game
W

The other is a total price at the end of each category in the have and want favorites so if I wanted to sale a lot or buy a lot I would know a roundabout number to start at.

GrandAmChandler
12-10-2009, 11:18 AM
I love it, with wanting the extra feature everyone above is talking about in the master list section. If room is needed, I'd truncate the decimal zeroes, since well they don't really matter.

So $12.00 = $12

etc.
