Saw this...immediately thought that it would be a wonderful fit for this forum. "Borrowed" from Gamespy.

The bottom one should be qft on every videogame forum on the internets.

That's hilarious, but some of the Nintendo Fan quotes could have been done better.

The boycott halo thing sounds more like those guys who were angry that devil may cry came to the 360. Which I didn't understand that at all. "Capcom has BETRAYED us by going multiplatform. We won't buy it, that will show them, and clearly make them want to make more games PS3 only."

Where is the section for the people who truly don't give a damn? I've been under the impression for the last few years that a good percentage of any community is neutral about the console wars.

We're the ones sitting back, smiling bemusedly at the chart saying "It's all so true"

That's exactly what I was thinking as I read it.

People take the system wars all too seriously. My favorite activity on the internet is watching as the extreme fanoys squabble endlessly.

Heh, that image is like the GameFAQs message boards, except to a lesser extreme.

Some of the Nintendo fanboy ones are actuslly quite tame compared to the actual fanboys I see on GameFAQs.
The rest was basically the G4 message boards in a nutshell.

They missed off the Sega fanboys!
First 4 are: Whatever. Everyone go play dreamcast! 9/9/09, believe!
5th: And? We had motion control 10 years ago!

they forgot the PC gamer's response to everything:
"so what? I can DL the ROMZ and play 'em on EMUZ for FREE!"

Speaking of Gamespy, while I agree that this was funny, does anyone else think that they've gone down the shitter this year? Their new structure is so annoying, and I used to like their reviews a lot. Now half of each review is literally telling you what other reviewers said. If I wanted to see other reviews I would go to a different website or check metacritic or gamerankings. Also, most of their humor pieces, which are supposed to be the centerpiece of the new design, are incredibly retarded. This one is the rare exception.
Eh, they're all in the pay of the publishers, though, right?

They lost Fargo, and their review output was in serious decline even before then (even if I did think they were usually pretty good reviews).

Am I alone in thinking the console wars of today are much more sedate than they were back in the 16 bit era?

Like everyone else said, the Nintendo ones are nothing compared to how the fanboys really are. The PS360 ones are pretty much spot on though. I've said a few of those before(one disc and the RRoD when talking about the 360.)
I'm a Sony fanboy, mainly because they have more of what I want on their systems.

Nope. This stuff today is more collected and vocal (due to the internet), but not nearly as brutal and heated as the 16-bit wars.

Really? Can imagine two kids "debating" which system was cooler. But never figure it'd be as bad as now. Basing my assumption that kids were jealous what the other got and ultimately want acquire both. In my eyes. having one made you cool. Having both bestowed the title of SUPER COOL! 8-) Am i alone in this?

You had me until the last one. Fanboys don't have time to commit suicide, they're too busy bitching about everything over the internet.

Based on the letters I see in my old game mags between then and now...it may have been a more heated debate, but the spelling, capitalization, and grammar would have been much better.

The only reason it is "bad" now is because of poor grammar, spelling, capitalization and the frequency of such words as "fag" and "homo".
The reason the 16-bit years were so "bad" (or good) wasn't the so much the insults, it was that since each system played off the others weakness, you couldn't really get anywhere with an argument.
Also, 16-bit debates were done via letters to magazines, or face to face....you didn't have internet anonymity to save you from saying stupid stuff.

I'd guess that a lot of the grammar, syntax etc. was still piss poor in those days. The letters were just cleaned up and edited by the mag before being printed in the actual publication.

That really needs to make a return, forum style.
"Text shorthand" is not a valid substitution for actual English when making a serious post.

No, I've been in classrooms in the past 5 years. There may be some of that, but kids today are not getting the same kind of grammar, spelling, etc. that I did when I was a kid. It just flat out isn't happening. But that's not a rant for this board. I ranted about it in the appropriate place, and that's why I'm not a teacher today.

It may be worse now, but I doubt it was tremendous back in the day. That was the point I was making. I'm honestly not disputing the fact that writing and grammar has gone downhill.
But, to be perfectly frank, many people's writing skills have always been weak. Now they just abbreviate "you" as "u" "are" as "r" etc. to make themselves look doubly retarded.
Naturally this is quite off topic, but interesting nonetheless. I'd recommend reading The Dumbest Generation for those interested in the purportedly increasing stupidity of America's youth.
