Yeah, it's a cart with all three games in it. Honestly, I don't think it's worth much, I got it at a yardsale a few years ago for $2. Surely you could get it for that or cheaper on eBay or something.

I ran into a guy at a record store recently. We were both digging around in the used last gen games, and after a couple quips back and forth, he blurts out, "I have a brand new nintendo system in the box."

I was just like,
"Uh, cool. I have a complete one in the box that's pretty mint."
"But this one has never been opened!" with a glazed look in his eyes and a defensive tone.

This guy was a complete mess. Bad teeth, seriously obese... in his early 20s. Yet he had the cutest girlfriend with him that he was being a complete dick to. It was a confusing situation.

I don't really have a point. But neither does OP, so it's okay.

Super Mario Bros. & Duck Hunt is almost certainly the most common cartridge-based game ever produced, there are millions, possibly tens of millions, of them that were made (SMB sold 40 million copies worldwide, but only the US had the combo cart, and not all of them were combo carts here, just most, so I don't know what the total would be, but it's huge). That's why there was this response, I'm sure.

Still, they are two great games, some of the most classic and influential games ever, for SMB particularly so anyone picking it up should be happy. One of these was one of the first things I got after getting my NES last year, for sure... I think I paid $1, maybe $2. That's about the worth.

SMB2 and 3 are probably worth like $5 each, though. It's funny, SMB3 is one of the best-selling non-packin game ever, selling like 18 million copies worldwide, but copies of the game seem much harder to come by than SMB/Duck Hunt carts... they're still common, but not AS common. Does it say that people are more likely to hang on to SMB3, or that SMB/DH is just that omnipresent?

Unfortunately, with time, the ability to play half that cartridge diminishes due to the lack of lightgun and Flat panel HDTV compatability.

That's a pretty good little starting collection. I started with about the same amount of games in 2003 when I decided I'd start to collect NES games and Now I'm 18 and I have over 200 NES games (I'd say more like 225-ish) including one prototype game and a few unlicensed games. I haven't been constantly collecting NES games, but I'd like to say I've gotten a nice collection from 6 years of on and off collecting.

If you'd care to, you can check out the online rarity guide for your games. I like to keep up with which of my games are hard to find. It's nice to have Batman Returns. Like I said I've been collecting NES games this long and I just got a copy of that game at a flea market a month ago. It's your rarest game at a 4 out of 10 (uncommon) and it's pretty fun.

If you'd like to get some more games, try checking out Goodwill and Salvation Army. You can get NES games for a decent price on eBay and it's cheaper to guy big lots of games.

I have no idea what your original post was about, but I'm glad to see another teenager interested in NES games. Most of my friends think I'm crazy to like old games.

Here's what I'm curious about: What are you storing your games in? Did someone build that for you, or is that a special case specifically for NES games?

Also, first thing you need to do: check your games. See how many screws each one has. Some variations are a heck of a lot rarer than others.

Are you referring to the black "Nintendo" sleeve in the OP's pic? If so, those are what came with the games originally - the boxes for NES games were just plain cardboard, so it was sort of standard to include those plastic sleeves to store your cartridges in long-term. They didn't always say "Nintendo" on them, though. Most of the ones I still have are just plain black.

I'm not thick. I've got about 10 of those myself, 2 with the Nintendo logo. Did you not notice how that little cabinet he had seemed perfectly sized for 10 or so NES games? That could be an obscure gaming accessory that none of us know of.

No, I didn't - the picture's pretty dark on this monitor, but all that was apparent was the cartridges and the standard sleeves, so I could only assume that's what you meant. I checked it again and the closest thing to that I can see is a black splotch in the corner, is that what you meant? Anyway, third-party cartridge racks from the NES days weren't all that uncommon, but it'd be interesting to see which ones have survived up to now.

You can see it better in my video I posted.

But to answer your question I honestly think it's some sort of custom made rack. The rungs are like the ones in this picture http://g-images.amazon.com/images/G/01/askville/190247_834835_mywrite/b0ec_1_b.jpg but with spaces for 7 games, overall it can hold 21 total 'cartridges'.

It has the says Nintendo on it but anyone could plop that on. It's made of plastic I believe. I would take pictures of it but my only camera is my webcam so they came out crappy and you can't tell what's going on.

In your video you talk about how the non-Nintendo labelled sleeves are "not official". The only difference is that the Nintendo labelled ones were only included with first-party (Nintendo published) games. Third-party games had the blank ones.
