How does DLC work, like I heard it expires in like 9 years or so, well that might be a while a way but that's just retarded I'd like to keep something forever if I can. Then I was reading the updates for the 360 and that new "buy platinum games online" or whatever and it says keep them forever. Do you actually keep them forever? Or do they really expire in 9 years.

I've never heard of DLC expiring, but if you get DLC for a online game, ie: new maps for online play, it's not like an online community will still be playing it in "blank" many years.

I know that with the Wii, the games you download are locked onto your account because if your Wii would to break, you can just call Nintendo, and they will transfer your account (with all your games) to your new Wii (through the Shop Channel). It could be the same way with the 360.

Is that true? A support rep from Nintendo themselves said in order to do an account transfer you have to send your broken Wii into Nintendo for repair/replacement.

DLC/arcade titles have no expiration date on any of it, best i've ever heard. No clue where you picked up this '9 years' thing.

The buy 'platinum' games online is an ability to either buy the short lived XBox Classics or to buy some of the 360 Platinum Hits games (that are stored on your Hard drive instead of you having packaging and a disc) that will be getting this service in the not too distant future.

The only potential problem one would have with being able to play their DLC is if the system its on, was not the same system as the purchase system and you're not connected online. (This would also apply to you playing a XBLA (or one of these downloaded titles in 10 years and say that XBL is no more so you can't connect to the service to validate your license to the game). This forces your XBLA games back to a demo/trial mode. This can be corrected by using the once a year software licenese update on your system to re-attach all the games back to your current system.

In order to qualm your fears, I believe the date set is 12/31/9999 for DLC on Xbox 360. I know that there is a specific date set that is long in the future for the DLC licenses to expire, so you should be fine.

Yeah, but they send you a box to ship it in. Why else would you want to transfer it other then your Wii breaking?

Malon, only Nintendo can transfer your DLC when your getting your console repaired from Nintendo (If they have to replace something internally like your flashdrive, or if the damage makes it necessary to not send back the original console).

You can't call them and have them transfer your games to a new Wii, they only transfer games during the repair process when a repair would otherwise make your DLC not function upon return.

And I'm not sure what your talking about with a shipping box and such. Did you think you could send your dead Wii to them and then they'd let you enable your DLC on a brand new Wii? Doesn't work that way.

And Xbox Live downloadable content doesn't have a expiration.

Xbox Live downloadable content last forever and a day. You can also keep it stored on memory cards and your pc in addition to your hard drive.

That's what I said. During the repair process. You have to call Nintendo if you want to send your Wii in to get fixed.

Not quite, there's no date limit on DLC. Although the heat death of the universe in 25 billion years will probably put a damper on it...

The 12/31/9999 date was from when some dude stole a beta copy of halo 3 and was stupid enough to play it on Live. They banned his account until that date.
