I bid 50 pounds or so. I think I made you pay much more because after I bid, you autobid back and the price when from like 12 pounds to 50something pounds.

Whups, should have used a reserve or a higher minimum bid (aren't like the first five auction listings per month free now?)
I still kind of sympathize with Predatorxs but...you gotta ship it now. (Had a similar thing happen to me a couple years ago but I shipped.)

He needs to elaborate on "error on the listing".
To me it sounds like "I found out I sold it too cheap and I am keeping it for more money later" Im sorry to say.

Hi there,
thanks for bidding on my item, i was trying to cancel the bids on the auction when you won, thus the low price it went for, i tried cancelling the auction, but ebay wouldn't let me, since there was less than 12 hours left (which was news to me)
when i emailed them about the auction, and how non of the options i had chosen worked (postage/reserve price), they told me to cancel all the bids and if someone did win tell them the situation?..
I was cancelling the auction since i wasn't allowed to use a reserve, and wasn't allowed to use postage options i used turbo lister to list the auction, Which is stupid.
so i hope you can accept my apologises for the time wasted, and i'll refund your payment.
i have sent you a few emails but had no responce, so am sending you a msg thru ebay, once i hear back i'll send your money straight back.
many thanks, speak to you soon.
This is what I've got so far, and I welcome him to discuss in here - it's your thread after all ;)
Personally, I've been on the short end of this a few times myself and I've gone through with it - a few protos went pretty cheap for me... and a few really high. I'd rather just go through with the deal, and that's what I replied to him.

He probably listed it on the presumption it would go really, really high and then if its not high enough he would cancel and relist at a higher bid price.
yeah that is sucky to back out after the auction had ended. IMO, that is the risk one takes when selling on auction, and if he or she cannot run the risk of selling it if it does land a smaller price than expected, then do not post it as an auction.

Yeah, this sounds really lame. If he wants to cancel, there's nothing you can really do about it. Not like you can force him to ship the game to you. But if he ends up relisting the item to get a higher price then that's just sleazy.

Too bad there wasnt some protection from sellers that do things like this. Ridiculous, sleazyness.
Predator Xs, if you are sick of people cancelling bids then dont cancel on people who DO bid. Ship the item for god sakes. There is no reason to cancel the transaction.
I'll get into some street slang and say that's some "busta ass shit." He joined here in Dec 2002 so he should know the game. I'm gonna go on the record and say he's pissed about how low it went for. Good luck, skaar.

I almost bid on this item but now I'm glad I didn't. As for the seller canceling the auction, it has been known for quite sometime that you can cancel any auction as long as you do it before the last 12 hours. I've even done this on several occasions for one reason or another, but I definitely never waited until the last day. In this case though, it looks like he wanted a higher price and unfortunately that didn't happen.

That's ridiculous! Why should the buyer pay for shipping when the listing states free. You certainly could not get away with the other way around!

Something like this happened to me once. I won a Super Nintendo store display sign (the plastic one with Mario and Yoshi on it) for only $10.00. The seller immediately refunds my money through PayPal and emails me saying he cannot sell it to me because he listed it by mistake. I ask him how it could possibly be a mistake when he took the time to take a picture of the item and write out a full description for it in the auction. He than says that his mom got mad at him and told him he could not ship the item if anyone won it. I than ask him why he didn't just cancel the auction, and he says because he had no idea there was such an option. We exchanged emails back and forth for the next couple of days...but I could not convince him to just ship my item.

My reply:
I got your message. Bottom line is the auction was listed and I won. When you list on ebay you need to be aware of their listing policies. It's not to your advantage, but you are legally obligated to complete the sale.
You can discuss this matter with eBay and they will tell you the same thing. Unfortunately, all I can do is leave a negative feedback and move on with a lesson learned.
If you're committed to killing this deal then I'll do so and that'll be the end of it for me.
fyi, I've posted your responses in your listing thread on DP where you advertised your auction.
So yeah, looks like the negative and move on is basically my only recourse. Lame.

Hey, it's certainly possible he did fuck something up in the listing - someone mentioned bidding 50 pounds and it went for 41... which would be in line with a cancelled bid. Combine that with an internet outage/unavailability... yeah.
I was more annoyed that he was showing as having logged into DP since all this and never commented in this thread. As my friend would say, weaksauce.
So it goes.
Sorry about your luck.
This sort of thing always makes me believe that the seller must not take his selling seriously, and as such, why should I waste my time bidding on one of his items next time, when he could just pull the plug, send a refund, and refuse to sell? Would be a total waste of my time, placing the bid in the first place.

FIRST OF ALL!!
I got back to the seller with in a two days of the auctions end, with no reply, i sent another email again no reply, i then sent a mesage through ebay, so it was more than a week before i heard anything
SECOND OF ALL!
i listed the Starfox Comp Cart i using Ebays turbo lister (which i'v used for more than 4 years) I usually list the item and then forget about it and wait for the email to say your item sold or didn't sell, or if i get any questions i'll reply back to, But in this case when i got a question on the last day, i noticed there was no reserve price on the auction, which i had set in turbo lister as £140 GBP, But i couldn't end the auction because ebay has the rule you can't end if there is less than 12 hours left.
I emailed ebay and got the reply, were sorry you want to end your auction, but since there is less than 12 hours you can't, all we can suggest is you cancel all bids and let the buyers know the reason why, and if someone does win your auction and pays for the item refund there money and explain the why, and hopefully they will understand the situation, basically ebay doesn't care about sellers anymore, thats why they've taken away the option for the seller to leave feedback.
That is the reason it went for a low price because i was cancelling the bids right at the end but a few bids got thru, it was impossible for me to keep cancelling all the bids at the same time, i explained this to the winning bidder and all i got is i still wish to continue the transaction???
I thought i'd explained it well enough so.. now i'm here defending myself, i used ebay since 2000 and had over 1200 transactions with over 890 ebayers and my feedback was Very very good, and a good 50% of those transactions were both selling and buying with US and Canadian ebayers.
So i follow what ebay says and emails the winner and then get 3 pages of this on Digitalpress??
I hope this address's some of your questions and comments that i'v read, i'm not in the business of messing people around, i dont appreciate being messed around so i just wouldn't do it to others.
Please feel free to post anymore comments..
EDIT*
I'v had a read through the comments again, i'm sure my rep (if i even had any?) will get shit on, thats par for the course, and to clear a few things, when ever i ship international i always take a hit on it, i always charge £9.99 when in reality its usually £18 since i always cover the full amount. (thats not including packaging, i'm the master of packaging if i do say so myself) Thats not a problem.. people do it for me so i pass it on to the next person.
Also you may have noticed i'm not on DP that.. much if ever, thats thanks to two big DP members, One of them i won there ebay auctions for over 20 Snes games and he took my $300 and had it for nearly three months, and gave me hundreds of reasons why he hadn't even sent the games i had won, i got on to another DP member and politly asked if he could ask his friend for me to either refund or send games, Its not something i wanted to do.. But it worked
So i know how things go here on DP.. My last comment is i'm not out to screw people, i'm not lame or a jerk, i'm not a cheap ass on shipping, i dont mind taking a hit if the item goes for a low price
BUT... Not when i stat a reserve and its not there, then thats not a hit i'm looking to take, if you read the description it doesn't stat that its a no reserve auction. Because it should have had a reserve, thats the last time i will ever use turbo lister, and pretty much ebay in general..

Predatorxs "story" is such crap. First of all, who set up an auction right before having "limited internet access"? That's just stupid in so many ways...or a big fat lie. Second, I'm sure turbolister does not make big mistakes like that. More like he forgot to add it, or again a big fat lie. Third it doesn't matter what you tried to cancel or do, end of the story is that Skaar won the auction and it's a contract. He paid, so Predatorxs should fulfill his part of the contract. It's enforced the other way by unpaid strike so WTF.

Hey Predatorxs...
On the record, I do "NO JACK," so hear me out.
Some time ago I saw a copy of the highly regarded X68000 game "AKUMAJO DRACULA" go for like $600 on eBay; a lot more than it was worth. I needed some money to buy another game I'd been searching for so I listed mine and hoped for the best.
TWO of my bidders contacted me and said they'd forgotten to bid on the item or hadn't bidded enough. I had to say sorry - it hurt me more than it hurt them, in the end, to complete the transaction, but it's what I had to do.
That said, you weren't trying to take advantage of market ignorance like I was. I'm sorry to hear your item went below what you think is the market value, but you still gots to come through man!
FINAL THOUHT: Isn't eBay giving sellers a number of free listings per month now? (Am I repeating myself?) All the more reason to list an item with the amount you want to get as a BIN and high starting price right offa da bat.

It would change a thing if i knew you from 30 years ago, what you did is wrong. Why did you cancel bids ??. Shouldn't at least the game reach 100 st. pounds ?? ... Couldn't you take an offer lower than 140 ? ... is not like you are giving an item for free, it was your mistake, not skaar's.
I saw your feedback and you sold one for 71 pounds ?? ....

The rules by ebay are such that you cannot cancel an auction with 12 hours left. If you didn't want the auction to end, you should have canceled it before this. You shouldn't have started cancelling bids (something I very much doubt you did) if you didn't want the price to be too low. You know, you should just suck it up and accept that you screwed up. Everyone makes mistakes, and the people who buy your stuff shouldn't be the ones suffering. It is an asshole move on your part and I really don't know why you are surprised at the backlash. Really, at one point I thought you were a pretty good guy on these forums, but now you come off as selfish and arrogant in your attempts to get out of a legally binding agreement.

Well i'm glad some of the people that haven't been on Dp for all that long and don't know me are passing comment, and i'm telling lies thanks for your +1 posts there not appreciated!.. And i'm not lying,
THE..... R..E..A..S..O..N.. It went for a low price is i was cancelling the bids at the end.. Sooo should i get back to all the other bidders that had bid more and sell it to them??
Also if i was a scheming no good ebayer, why didn't i just get another ebayer or a friend to shill bid the damn thing up to cover myself??
Because i play by the rules, i was doing what f**king ebay said to do, since i had no time left (less than 12 hours left, i couldn't stop the auction), i had hoped to have the auction end with no bids and relist with the reserve so it would go as i intended.
I'm not really interested by the comments some of the newer DP members have made, since they dont know me? but can still pass comment on me.. thanks guys?!
I'v explained the situation, I did use turbo lister, i did have a reserve set. I DON'T think i should take the hit when ebays turbo lister is garbage?? And i'm pretty much finished with ebay.
And i still have only limited access to the internet, i'm writing this message on a friends iphone. I no longer have internet access at work, its blocked to only the sites that we need to use.
PS, I appreciate your comments Ed Oscuro, but i'm not willing to take the hit when i did choose a reserve price. I hope your doing ok, i haven't spoke to you in along time.
:deadhorse:
sorry bud, the only way to save face after all this is to just complete the sale. Anything else you say makes you sound more and more like an ass...

Even if you're being completely up front, what you're basically saying is that, between the two of you, he deserves to get screwed more than you do.

I happen to be one of the people that bid on the auction too and I have been on this forum for a while.
Also, considering you have posted less than 20 times in the last year, dont expect people to know you very well!

I'm with Predatorxs on this one guys. Point-by-point:
-not everyone refreshes their auctions every 10 minutes, so I can see why he never saw that it was messed up. Maybe You think he skipped the reserve on purpose in order to save a few cents on a ~$300 item? Does that make sense?
-I've started auctions only to remember a few days later I'm going to be out of town the weekend they end. Yes, poor planning, but something anyone can do.
-Who got 'screwed' more... the "winning" bidder, or the high bidder whose bid was canceled? I don't think anyone has grounds to say Predatorxs is lieing about canceling bids.
-It sucks to think you got a good deal on something, then have it yanked away, but really, what true harm is done to the 'winning' bidder?
Anyway, just my take on it. Definitely a sucky situation for all.

This will be my last reply...
1 - I'm not looking to save face, as a DP member i thought i'd sahre my side of this stupid situation
2 - Nobody deserves to get screwed, i refunded the payment.
3 - I'v posted less than 20 times, after being pretty much scammed by another DP member, and DP isn't what it used to be..
4 - I replied back to show i wasn't being unfair, but i had chosen a reserve price for my auction, which wasn't even included in the auction, i'v already emailed ebay and complained.
5 - And since pretty much non of you seem to know me, your still talking like you do?? Strange.
6 - Why would i post here on DP about the auction and then do this, I WOULDN'T!!

Look, Im not trying to be a jerk or anything but it seems to be the consensus that if you had wanted to cancel the auction, you should have done so in the time you were able. You should have just made sure everything was ok before you waited for the auction to run down. People become suspicous when the seller cancels an auction during transaction time.
I guess this was just... an unfortunate set of circumstances.

I did say the last post was it for me, but to clear up the general situation.. i only noticed the morning of the auction endding when there were bids that it said so-and-so is currently winning?
I thought how is that since i have a reserve? I had already started cancelling bids in the morning, only because there was little interest and only a handful of people watching, i didn't just decided to do it 5 minutes before it ended, Because on the flip side people could have gone buck nutty and put loads of bids on it.
But i followed ebays instructions (feel free to go and read what there instructions are?! there crazy), to cancel bids, and try to have it finish with no winner and simply try to relist, believe me if i had known i had a time limit, and i had noticed there was no reserve i would have killed the auction right after i had first listed the damn thing.
It ended at the low price it did because i was there canceling bids at the end, when i started cancelling it was upto £90. I simply wanted it to end with no winner and just relist, again as ebay says to do, then literally have to beg the winning bidder to understand the situation, (its crazy, i see ebay losing alot of £££ with rules like that.)
Its been a comedy of errors from start to finish, i'm not looking to rob or rip anybody off, i hate when it happens to me.. so i just wouldn't sh*t on anyone else.
I'm not going to play ping pong about this any longer, and i'v probably posted more in 1 day then i have in the last year, its a shame its not under better and more productive topics, than PredatorXS is lame, is a jerk, is pissed it went for a low price, is a scumbag, is talkin sh*t, is telling storys etc, etc, etc..

Ok, as I said, misunderstanding and unfortunate circumstances. Please dont take the skepticism so harshly. Skepticism is the natural way for people in modern society.

How do you cancel bids if someone snipes with 2 seconds left?
To me, doing that is just dumb. I'm sure if you left the auction alone, you would have got a reasonable price for it ($200-$300).
