SvC beta testing has gotten underway in NeoGeo Land in Japan...so far our lineup looks as thus-
Known characters-
Capcom-Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Sagat, Guile, Dhalsim, Vega, Bison, Balrog, Tessa, Hugo, Akuma, DEMITRI, DAN
SNK-Kyo, Iori, Mai, Terry, Choi, Genjuro, Shiki, Kasumi, Ryo, Mr. Karate, Earthquake, Kim, GOENITZ
Bosses thus far-
Shin Akuma, Evil Mr. Karate, Evil Ken, Orochi Iori
No actual pictures have surfaced of the bosses yet, although my understanding is that Iori and Ken are all new sprites. Oh-and Dan is a secret character so far. So in game shots have surfaced of him, but he's not listed on the movelist sheet.

Cool, Demitri. I can't wait to see some screen shots.
Too bad that one pic with Morrigan and Fio was fake.
Anyone see any screen shots with Guile yet?
Hugo is fucking HUGE

Here's some info on the game system, from mmcafe.com...
Front ground Step Forward x 2
Backstep : Back x 2
Guard Cancel Front ground step Forward x 2 during guard
Guard cancel attack: C+D during guard
Throw: A+B or C+D
ground recovery: A+B when hitting the ground from a fall
Taunt: Start Button
As for the super gauge, there's three 3 levels, and you start the first round with one. Once you reach level 3, You enter MAX mode from KOF 2k2, which lets you cancel moves that are normally uncancelable, until the time limit on that runs out and you go back to 2 levels. Meter is used for Super attacks, and guard cancels.
Also there's an Exceed attack, basically an SDM that you can only do once per opponent (aka 2/3 round match), and only at 50 percent life or lower. It also takes one level of meter. Does good damage apparently, too.
Front Ground Steps can be cancelled at any time into an attack...the only jumps you can do are normal jumps and super jumps. In addition, guard attacks are currently invincible and can be cancelled into attacks at any time.
Basically, it looks as though there are still a few kinks to work out of the game engine to make it a good competitive title...but I'm looking forward to it.

Good stuff, but dammit, it wouldve been cool if the bosses werent just "evil" versions of characters already in game. So new faces wouldve been nice.

Nice. Thanks for the update.
The only bad news is Dan. This is a joke that was funny about 7 years ago. Now, I just feel that he's wasting space where an interesting character could be. Too bad about Morrigan.

Hey Nick,
Those pics are being played off a Hyper 64 - do you think that the AES or MVS release will be Hyper 64 instead?
Or do you think that it's just a sign on the machine?

I think it's running on MVS in a Hyper 64 cab.

You're right. SvC was developed for the old Neo Geo MVS. The cabinet is just one that used to have a hyper neo geo 64 in apparently.

Any more updates on the new hardware rumor?
Insert Credit reports:
"There's more hard SvC data (well as hard as can be given the subjectivity of the sources) over at the MMCafe - go have yourself a look. According to the report, the game *may* be running on a new Neo Geo hardware. When I finally get that damned promised Playmore interview, I'll let you know for sure."
MMCafe reports:
- The game apparently runs on a new NeoGeo hardware. This report comes from arcade operator site Alpha Station. (I have no idea if that means a new system aside from the MVS, or an upgrade to the cartridge. It does explain however, the reports coming in that the game is doing graphical effects that have never been seen in past MVS titles. -H.Moriarty)
Well, the site mentioned, Alpha Station is completely in Japanese, so that ends my investigatio. Anyone else found anything?

As far as I know, its running on a standard neo geo. It could have new hardware under the cartridge though (I wouldn't be surprised, as that would make it take longer to get the rom out).
A few tidbits-
Guard Cancel attacks, though invincible, do no damage. However, they do knock your opponent across the screen and don't take as much meter as they should.
At MAX meter you can do infinite level 1 supers until the meter runs out, in addition to cancelling moves. Both of which will probably use up chunks of the meter like in KOF 2k2.
Speaking of which, this game uses a fighting engine similar to Street Fighter, so you got no rolls, no short jumps, no chain linkers, no parries, no just defense...what we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is a return to old school tactics. Now people will learn how to get around fireballs the right way ;p

I'm really looking forward to playing this game, especially if it catches on. In the least, it's something I can do with a lot of my friends, seeing as they all want to play it. I just hope the game really catches on and people get into it tournament wise.

I'm still hoping for online play via the xbox at some point...
But I will have either the MVS kit or the homecart as soon as possible. Depends how fast the MVS kit price drops.

Well the new neo geo hardware speak was referring to a new chip in the cartridge of the game that improves graphics, speed, sound, and color in the Neo Geo. As a result the arcade cart will be 250 bucks more then other Neo Geo arcade carts. No word on the pricing of the home cart. From what I understand it also features security encryption similar to the cps-3 games in an attempt to delay the rom getting dumped for some months.
Some vids of the beta testing can be found at www.snk-capcom.com wherein you'll find Mai vs Dhalsim, Terry vs Bison(who has no standing animation implemented at this time), Hugo vs Kyo, and Ryu vs Iori. The game looks good, I like the old kung-fu movie sound effects, the music is...like KOF 2k2. Animation on the capcom characters is fantastic. Animation on the SNK characters is...sprite ripped but good enough.

Anyhow it looks like Geese is in the game as well...giving us a grand total of 32 characters, 8 of them hidden/bosses. Pretty badass number of characters.

Snk Vs Capcom Testing in California on July 12th!
SNK has decided to test their new fighting game for one day only at Winnetka Fun Zone in Chatsworth on July 12, 2003 at 10am. This highly anticipated new game, comes with an all NEW fighting system. WFZ plans to have the machine on Free Play the entire time! Also, the SNK represenative will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about the game, and to give out promotional items for the game. Quantities are limited. If you are in the Southern California Area on the 12th of July, go check it out!
Winnetka Fun Zone
9201 Winnetka Avenue
Suite C
Chatsworth, CA 91311
Heads up from Shoryuken.com. Someone needs to go and snag me one of the promo items! This will likely be the last beta test for the game, period, and, in all likelihood, will play basically like the final version.

Yea, I need one of those promo items as well.
The day is getting closer and closer. Some arcade around here better have the game or else I'm gonna flip out on a whole town like a Ninja when someone drops a spoon. Then I'll wail on a guitar.
:rocker:
Either that or the MVS kit price needs to drop like a rock.

This game looks crazy, I can't wait to see the arcades that get it that aren't near me! Alright!
...Probably for the best, though. I get violent when i play a SNK fighter that doesn't have King in it.

Well hey, maybe a month or so after I can see about organizing a list of all arcades that have the game, by asking folks on here and a couple other sites. Chacnes are if you are in SE michigan, you'll be able to find one, and I know that Chinatown Fair in NYC will be getting the game, as well as random arcades in Cali.

That's the problem, I'm in residential New Hampshire, leaving my options to be York, ME or Boston. I hear Salisbury is good too but I have no clue how to get there, and I'm awful with directions.

Well, I've read up on the comments on this beta test (which was confirmed by an SNK rep to be essentially the final version).
First off, the game plays alot like a KOF, stripped down with the rolls and short jumps (which was expected, as cvs played like a street fighter). For the sake of ease of reading, I'll seperate commentary...
throws-decent range, but if you whiff it takes away some of your super meter.
normal dashes can't be interrupted with moves, but are very fast. guard cancel dashes can, however, and its considered this feature will either make or break this game.
Really good characters seemed to be Iori, Shiki(who I'm goign over just because she rocks), Kim, Ryu,Chun Li, Balrog, and Dhalsim. Hugo and Earthquake are both better then alot of people expected(hugo can do his clap move into the 360 and have it connect), with Sagat and Kasumi both appearing weak.
A problem lots of people had was with the controls. Some people had trouble doing dragon punch motions, and alot complained about the charge moves, since you had to charge it for a while, and charging down-back direction didn't seem to work very well. This will really hurt Guile, Choi, and Vega.
Now my shiki section, posted word for word from the man who typed it up in the first place.
"Shiki - She's gonna be good, probably top tier. I was told she is from SamSho 64, I thought she was in Last Blade....oh well. She's got this teleport thing where a sphere of energy forms around her and she disappears then reappears. This thing is way too good, it had what seemed to be little startup/recovery. I saw it being used so much that i asked if it was a normal attack. She's got a special throw I think where this skull appears over your head. While this skull is over your head your controls are reversed(i remember someone in SamSho2 having something like this). The move seems kinda broken to me, i dunno. A little too nasty. I believe if she hits you while you have this skull over your head, it goes away....but this leads to combos. She had some crazy 5hit+ string/chain combo she was doing that looked really good. She's got a great spinning DP move that seemed to be the best DP in the game IMO. She's also got this move in the air where she dives down diagonally at you really fast and it seemed to have almost no recovery. Looked pretty abuseable. She's got some kind of running attack move that looked like she'd slice at your ankles with both her blades, from 3/4 to full screen it looked like it couldn't be punished. She seemed to be very a fairly fast character. A stupid thing I saw was that if she just stands there, Ken/Ryu hurricanes go right over her head.....yay!"
