So, my friend recovered my gamertag today to try out a game I bought so then i went to recover it and to my surprise I don't even have to to recover it my account just signs in. I'm just like ha nice glitch and go to play a game. "Disconnected from XBL" so I say so much for that and go to recover it. It says cannot be done at this time then says some error code. I didn't think much of it maybe there was a "cooldown" so i went to make a new account and to get the free 1 month xbl but when i try to join XBL it says the same thing when i go to recover my gamertag.

has this ever happened to someone and if so what did you do? it's been about an hour since I've been trying to recover it still getting the same message.

I also went to the support page and typed in the error code but it didn't give me any information.

That sounds like behavior that could get your account red flagged and banned someday possibly.

I haven't recovered an account recently, but this was typically due to some sort of error on Microsoft's side. I would give their customer support number a call (1-800-4MYXBOX...expect idiocy and waiting forever). There may be some reason on their side that it's blocked.

I'll give it a try tommorow it's too late to wait forever haha

He edited it afterwards so my post doesn't make as much sense.

He was allowing his friend to recover his gamertag and make DLC purchases on his account so they'd be tied to the friend's console and be able to be used on any account on that 360, and then would recover his gamertag to his own console so he could log on to Xbox Live and use the DLC.

To make it clearer, he and his friend was exploiting the system so they could both get games for the price of 1 game by having the licenses tied to one console and accessing it on the other console through being logged in, taking advantage of the two distinct verification methods MS has in place for DLC.

I suspect its something that could get both consoles banned if they ever stumbled across it.

Ah. Gotcha. I did that the other day myself quite by accident.
My brother-in-law and I usually only get to hang out once a week. We recover gamer tags at least twice on weekends depending on whose machine is available. I accidentally bought Bomberman on his machine in my name. I don't even like the game, but I bought it for my fiancee not realizing it was his machine. You can imagine my surprise when I was able to download it to my machine when I recovered back at home. We have no intention of making it a habit AT ALL. But at least I know I didn't waste the points and can still play it on my 360.

That's how my husband and I buy games. After he had his console fixed my Microsoft, the games that he had purchased no longer worked with my account, so I called Microsoft and bitched and they sided in my favor. I got all the points for my "lost games" and was able to rebuy them for free with my account.

So yeah, if I'm buying a game I always purchase it on his console, and vice versa.
