View Full Version : Need feedback for my top 100 Genesis games list

I see there's some fellow Sega-16 members here so they'll know what this is about, basically I made a feature of the top 100 Mega Drive games for my website at the beggining of this year, which is here http://retro-sanctuary.com/TOP%20100%20Megadrive%20GAMES%20page%201.html

And now I want to update/revise it so I was checking through Google for info and stumbled on an old thread here about someone's top 50, everyone seemed to know what they were talking about (though half the members who posted on that thread are probably gone by now thinking about it) so I thought it'd be wise to ask here for feedback on mistakes I may of made or games I may of missed the 1st time around.

You've got most of my favorites on there for sure, the order is always arguable, but I think you've got most of my real favorites near the top. Genesis was my system, I love those games, and its funny I'm just realizing after reading a lot of top 50 or top 10 lists that I haven't even played a few of the best games for the system so that has been fun :)

I think it's a pretty good list, but I have to complain about the lack of my favorite Genesis/Mega Drive game ever. Fantastic Dizzy by Codemasters. The first time I played this game was actually on a Mega Drive while visiting family in Scotland, and when we got back to the states we just had to hunt it down. Great platformer/adventures/puzzle/exploration game with charming characters and great music and aesthetics. Not to mention that awesome cartridge shape!

A couple of other game I'd like to see up there:

Haunting starring Poulterguy
The Ooze
McDonald's TreasureLand Adventure

That last one I think is an often underappreciated classic but I think it really holds up well along with the other great ad based games of the time like Cool Spot. It's also made by Treasure who made more than their fair share of great Genesis games with Alien Soldier, Light Crusader, Dynamite Headdy, and Gunstar Heroes. Definitely think it's one of the greats on the Genesis.

Cool, thanks for some of the mentions, I tried to play the Ooze once but it seemed pretty confusing, I'll try to make more of a concerted effort to get to grips with it this time

I definately think about putting Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy in, it's always good to have a least one Dizzy game in a list of classics :)

Decent list, as everyone is going to have favorites that they put on their list.

The big one for me that should be on there is Gain Ground. Unique game that is also two player. I beat it with a couple of friends this year.

Gain Ground is awesome, originally I was going to have it in the 80-100 area as I felt that it had limited appeal but I had so many games on the list that I ran out of space and had to make cuts :(

cheers for Landstalker being top-5, it's easily one of my faves on the system.

I'm curious as to what the TJ&E fans will say to the sequel being nearly 40 spots above the original :D

As a big TJ&E fan I totally agree with the order they're in. Toejam and Earl was fun and funny, but Panic on Funkotron definitely had more focus, looked tons better, and had much better action. And they also didn't skimp on the secrets, the co-op, or the funk!

As I have just went through and organized my US Genesis Sega Collection, I came accross these that I find are worthy of being on a top 100 list. They would definately be on my top 100 list.

Dungeons and Dragons
Forgotten Worlds
Gauntlet IV
Punisher
MERCS
Master of Monsters
Mutant League Football
Rocket Knight Adventures
Star Control

Yeah I've been criticised for the whole Toejam and Earl thing before, I dunno I just felt that the sequel was more focussed and accessible, I'm gonna definately have a proper play through of the original soon, hopefully I'll be able to talk one of my friends into playing 2-player.

Original Toe Jam 2 player rocked. Everyone is going to have a different 100 list. Overall not a bad job. You had some obscure ones on there that made me happy that you picked. The genesis is full of some oddball stuff, and I am glad that you picked what you picked.

Props for mentioning The Punisher. One of my favorite games on the Genny.

this top 100 list is pretty good. There isn't a whole lot I disagree with there, of course there are some games that should be on the list but hey, its impossible to include every good genesis game into a top 100 list.

Yep, I thought your list was good. The only thing I'd maybe put in is Double Dragon III, but I may be one of the few who enjoyed that one.

Although people say the SNES version is better, I really liked Sunset Riders. Great two player game that I think is missing from your list.

I have one complaint, where the heck is Ghostbusters?!?! That is and will always be my favorite Genesis game. Other then that it's a great list!

This is always true in listing top "xx" games, something worthy always has to be bumped off to make room for something else. Personally I would have picked Undeadline over Elemental Master as I feel it to be a very similar but far superior game. However Elemental Master is a more accessible title, not to mention much easier to find and be played by anyone reading the list.

Moonwalker really doesn't belong in any list of great games :)

The only feedback i can give is that you need to proofread. You used "fell" as "feel" at least once.

That's a really good list. I grew up an NES/SNES guy so I find that list very useful. I have almost no idea what games are good for the system.

Great list! I love Shinobi 3, and Castlevania Bloodlines is awesome. Reading through your list def made me wanna get some games I wasn't aware of.

I would like to offer a suggestion of Rolling Thunder 2. Its a great game, and believe from the looks of your list you will like it. Great arcade fun.

I checked it like 3 times after I made it, fixed typo's on many occasions that I've noticed since, and there's still probably loads i've missed.
