I suppose it was bound to happen eventually but imagining a Halo game without Bungie is like imagining a reese's cup without peanut butter in the middle. They are already working on a new franchise and I'm interested to see what they come up with. Hopefully they'll keep supporting Halo 3, ODST and Reach(thru online stats) for many years to come after they grace us with their Halo swan song Halo Reach (http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/211411/breaking-halo-reach-will-be-bungies-last-halo-game/) next year.

They said they were done with Halo 3, then they announced the Halo "trilogy" was ending on its 4th Halo title with ODST or whatever its called, and now they're saying their 5th Halo fps title is the end?

I'll believe it when its been 4 or 5 years since they released a Halo game.

Yeah, I seem to remember them saying there would be NO more Halo games past the third. Funny how money makes people lie so much. LOL

I decided "since I have nothing better to do" to type "Halo" five times in the google search engine to see what may result and I may be onto something here:

That looks suspicously a lot like the food from Star Trek the Original Series.

I thought ODST was going to be the last one as Microsoft no longer owned them..?

Watch them bring out some new Marathon games instead LOL

Or pull an Electronic Arts and make a TON of spinoff party and cutesy games based off Halo.

Good grief. I've called food garbage in the past but I think I've finally seen food that substitutes as garbage.

All Bungie needs to do is have Halo 3 ported to Windows and I'll be happy if they never make another game after Reach.

This reminds me of Hideo Kojima.

"This will be the last Metal Gear" after every single MGS after the first games release. Right now there are two more Metal Gear titles not to mention the fact that the iphone got another Metal Gear title after MGS4.

He says he wants to make a Zone of Enders 3, but I can guarantee that'll never happen.

the more halo games they make the better, i will always love halo, it will be interesting to see the quality of the next few they make though and if they live up to the first three.

Technically, Bungie said Halo 3 was the last game of the Halo Trilogy. Never once said it was the last Halo game. And they consider ODST an expansion, but whatever. All that matters is there's more Halo, which is good.

I still wanna know what Halo Reach is gonna be like unless they already showed gameplay trailers?

I think Bungie originally said Halo 3 would be the end of the story, which could still technically be true since Reach is a prequel and ODST is a side story.

Correct. All I ever remember Bungie saying is that Halo 3 would be the end of Master Chief's story with the Covenant and the Flood. Master Chief isn't a part of ODST so that makes sense. However, we still have no clue as to what they are going to do with Halo Reach. I would love to play some of the other Spartans from Master Chief's squad when he wasn't the only one but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

D00d. People keep spreading rumors about new Bungie Marathon and Myth games. If a company says something is the last, it's nearly almost always just marketing.

I did some research and was remembering things slightly incorrectly.

They announced they were done with Halo after ODST, which was going to end the Halo trilogy. Was widely reported at the time.

So they've only gone back from that once so far since Halo Reach is set in the same world and is in the same timeline as the other Halo titles, taking place before the events of Halo 1.

Doesn't matter much either way, the Halo series is going to continue with or without Bungie. It doesn't belong to them anymore.

Bungie and MS split a few months after Halo 3 released. MS owns the rights to Halo (and as such we've seen Halo Wars). Bungie still had some kind of agreement to do the stuff they had in the pipeline and to continue to work on games exclusively for the 360. It's been rumored that there is some other stuff thats still unmentioned coming from Bungie, thats not Halo, but everything that has either come up (in store advanced notice listings like Halo Blue) or announced has been under the Halo Umbrella.

I did read on Kotaku recently that there appears to be a new MS studio thats got the game of 343 games (or something close to that). 343 is Guilty Sparks number and the conjecture is that this is MS's new internal studio that will take over the Halo franchise and do with it what they will.

Despite Halo 3 being an excellent, game, I'll never be able to recreate the excitement of getting X-Box live and playing Halo 2. The fun of having a headset and playing online for the first time, and just being able to play multiplayer and having a full screen was just incredible for me. I miss it. Maybe it's just the nostalgia factor I get when I play Halo 3 that just makes me kinda say "meh" when playing it. Now I only go on if friends are online; with Halo 2, I would just go on by myself and raise hell in all sorts of matches ^_^

Anyway, I'd hate to see for the Halo series to end.

You know who said the same thing - Hideo Kojima with his MGS4. I doubt it will be their last. With so many fans craving for more Halo, I doubt Bungie is stupid enough to say no to profit.

This wont be their last. It will be their last for now, until they realize that Halo is money machine. They will hopefully take a break for a couple of years, then come to their senses.

Either way, it might be good for the frachise to take a break after the next couple of projects and let technology advance a bit.

it will be interesting to see the quality of the next few they make though and if they live up to the first three.Well, they've never been able to hit the quality of the first one, so I wouldn't hold my breath... Hehe, sorry for the total troll post, I couldn't help myself. The series has been going steadily downhill, imho. I didn't even bother finishing 3 and sold it after a couple weeks. The original was really fun, though.

Unless they do more spinoffs, they should give the franchise a rest. They should wait several years before doing another Halo FPS - make it a killer launch title for the next gen, or a late-in-the-generation masterpiece.
