Hey All,

So here's the situation:

In the 5th and 6th stage areas of the Laseractive game "Triad Stone", there are some very odd visual issues that need to be worked out. I researched this in the archives and came across another person having the same issues, and one person not.

Essentially the main issue is with the "Gulliver's Travel" like stage (the grassy field in the bottom center of the map selection screen. The odd 'glitch' is that there is this seizure inducing 'flip book' effect that shouldn't be there - you can witness in this small clip I took:

http://www.game-rave.com/glitch.mov

The second the main character is shown, you'll see it happen every few seconds. The screen first folds AWAY the viewer, than INTO, then repeats. Note that this isn't a transition issue: The death clips are played instantly - this is literally a special effect issue.

There is a similar issue with the Mountain Stage (blue background) playing a water ripple effect over the graphics.

UPDATED:
In an effort to try and pin point this issue, I figured it might be a good idea to track down PAC, Deck and Laserdisc serials to see if there is any pattern. Keep in mind that this is for the US version of the items, I don't know anything about the Japanese ones.

Here's the list so far:

GLITCH LIST:
a. Pac (Sep. 93, NI6913224P) with Deck (Sep 93, NI3615132 TP) and Disc (UD-5-B09-P)
b. Pac (Aug. 93, NH6908168P) with Deck (Sep 93, NI3615132 TP) and Disc (UD-5-B09-P)

NON-GLITCH LIST:
a. none so far

Any help anyone can provide would be great!
Jason

I don't have Triad Stone, unfortunately, so I can't see if it'll do the same thing on mine.

I looked on Cyberroach's site and his Laseractive museum, and he mentions this:
The video sequences are arranged in an interleaved format on the disc with key sequences (death, stage complete etc.) occurring multiple times. This helps to speed up scene switching but prevents the video from being watched on a regular laserdisc player - all you'll see is two scenes flickering back and forth.

I don't suppose this is what's happening for some reason? Do you happen to have a regular laserdisc player you could test it on, to see if it's doing the same thing?

It's not so much a transition issue - it kicks to the death sequences no problem...in fact, the death sequence animation is fine; no "flip book" effect, clean transition every time.

If you look at the effect, it's literally folding the same sequence in on itself repeatedly. This is is the only section on the disc (there are 4 stages prior) where this happens. It also makes the game practically unplayable.

Even weirder, upon looking at the clip featured above, the "flip book" changes directions...some go backwards, some go forwards. As if you were knocking a standing sheet of poster board back or forward.

So Imported the Sega Saturn version of Strahl (Triad Stone) in hopes of using that to finish the Laseractive version's guide...and it turns out the button sequences are either completely different or changed.

The Triad Stone curse continues.

That was me! I'm glad someone else finally reported this issue, I thought I was nuts. I can try and get you my LA and Disc info tonight. I packed the LA away though so I'll have to dig it out.

Tempest! Woo Nice :)

Yah, please do. I just won another copy of the Laseractive disc from eBay for cheaps, so I can try this one as well.

Off-topic, but to help me flesh out my LA language thread - can you tell me if Triad Stone is bilingual or not?

a. Triad Stone is selectable in English / Japanese in the Options menu. US version owned.

b. Picked up a second Triad Stone, so far firs test gave me the same thing...wondering if it's the deck.

Thanks, Dangerboy! I'll add that to the list.

That looks like a mastering error to me. The control PACs can't perform modifications to LD video, as far as I know - they just overlay graphics on top of it. The only way I can think of that that would happen is if there was an error at the mastering stage.

Could it be an error with the player itself? I know that Myst was never released due to a bug with the Laseractive (don't know if it was the player or the Genesis module though).

I haven't forgotten about this thread, I just haven't had time to dig my laserdisc stuff out yet. Maybe next week.
