View Full Version : Sony confirms EyePet US release this holiday [Joystiq]

Sony has confirmed to us at a holiday showcase event in New York City tonight that the PlayStation Eye game, EyePet (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/eyepet), will definitely be heading to the US in time for the holidays. Our roving reporter, Andrew Yoon, says that the game will be available standalone as well as bundled with the PlayStation Eye camera.

Previously, the game was only announced for a European release after it was first revealed (http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/new-playstation-eye-game-announced-eyepet/) at Leipzig GC last year. We're happy to see the adorable simian-dog-thing will be making the jump across the Atlantic and won't be suffering from the chronic case of Q1-2010 flu that's making the rounds.

Have you seen the tech demo where the user draws 2D objects/things on blank paper and the pet actually fabricates them in 3D?

If nothing else, that the first time Sony is implementing that technology in software.

Totally agree, I feel that Sony has really lost their way on what the public wants/ listening to their fanbase. Dont get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Sony...pre PS3 era. Nobody is going to give a shit about this product.

But, nobody cares about girlfriends! Or children for that matter! j/k :D

The scanning looks pretty neat, like a super Tamagotchi. I think Sony is covering enough bases to not piss anyone off with this, personally i'm just glad they are bringing Demon's Souls stateside, so I can kinda overlook this as a deterrent as it doesn't seem to be affecting other genres since alot is coming out.

From the demo's I've seen, this looks cool. But as witnessed in this thread, many people will dismiss it because of the kiddy look (similar to the reaction Little Big Planet received). And I hope the PS3 slim (if its real) gets a makeover before release, that thing still looks like a HK bootleg piece of garbage to me.

Remember, that was the reason why the shitcanned the idea of having your picture next to the high score. Some dude stood on a stool, dropped his pants, and posed for the camera.

Interesting enough, that same technology was used in Journey to scan the band's faces.

People are sick. They'll find a way to make even the most innocent things dirty and crude.
