View Full Version : Consoles for a few games.

Do you own any consoles you keep around for just a few games?
For me, there are two: the 7800 and the NES.
Unlike the CV or 5200, which I keep as true gaming machines, those other two I only use for certain games, and no others- that is, "I'd just get rid of them to clear up clutter, but there are these few games I like, so, I don't..."
7800:
Dig Dug.
Xevious (Better than NES).
Tower Toppler.
Pole Position 2.
JOUST.
Asteroids.
Food Fight.
NES:
Galaga.
Ghosts `N Goblins.
Donkey Kong 3.
Gauntlet.
Klax.
Marble Madness.
Terra Cresta.
The only rule for this thread is that it has to be a console, not a computer or hand-held (e.g. GBC). Also, it has to be for a few games, not because the thing is itself a collector's item, like an RCA Studio 2.
Would a Neo-Geo fall under this category?

I have a Saturn, and only have about 2 good games for it. I plan on getting more, but I've been saying that for a couple years. I have no interest in getting rid of it right now though because I love being able to play Panzer Dragoon, and Bug!.
Also, you should add Ninja Golf to your 7800 :) .

I'll probably catch some hate for this, but here goes. All Sega products with the exception of the Genesis. My Saturn, Dreamcast, and CDX all are probably tied with each other for least played system. It just seems like stateside, Sega didn't have a whole lot of top tier titles for any of their cd-based systems. I love NiGHTS and Christmas Nights (import) for my Saturn. My Dreamcast hardly would see any use at all if it weren't for Grandia and Record of the Lodoss War. Lastly, if Working Designs hadn't put out a number of good games for Sega CD, I'd only use it to play hi-def versions of Genesis games I already own (Sonic, Ecco, Mickey Mania, etc). Just my $0.02.
Also I can't remember the last time I fired up the 3DO...

For me this happens way too much!
PS3:
Metal Gear Soled 4
Resident Evil 5
Sega CDX:
Snatcher
All the Working Designs games
Sega genesis: (only to keep the RAM cart in the CDX)
M.U.S.H.A
Turbo DUO:
All the Working Designs games
Sega Saturn:
All the Working Designs games

Saturn - I only have Panzer Dragoon II. I want to pick up many of games for this platform, mainly japanese games, but I still have 100+ SNES/SFC games to get before I can move on. The bad thing is that the Saturn wasn't well known down here (I can't recall any store that carried them) so finding games in the wild is pretty difficult. PDII Zwei has been the only one I've found in 5 years.
Genesis - Although I have a lot of games for this system I'm only interested in a few of them. The others have been bought either along with games for other systems in lots or picked up for cheap (usually <$1) at flea markets and such.
Dreamcast - Mainly for the fighting games. Many of the Sega games that I intended to get have been released on the PS2 or Gamecube and some of the fighting games too so my DC has been getting less and less play time. If it wasn't for SFIII:New Generation and Project Justice I would barely play it.
Sega CD - for Lunar 2 and better sound hardware
Neo Geo AES - I have 5 games but none are of interest to me. I only have this system because I got it pretty cheap but I just don't want to sell it for some reason (maybe because I would need to sacrifice my first newborn if I wanted to get it back).
Turbografx-16 - I want to get the Valis games and a couple of shooters but I need the CD-ROM attachment for that. :(
32X - mmm...It looks good? I don't really have a reason to keep it but since I don't have the video passthrough cable I guess I wouldn't get a lot if I sold it. I prefer it to be sitting in my shelf.

My GameGear right now. The only games of interest I have are the Sonic quadrilogy and the Neo-Geo ports.

First I keep my PC around for Diablo II, and then my Gameboy around- oh wait...
Usually it's anything Sega related for me (with the exception of my Genesis).
Sega CD - 2 games
32x- 1 game
Dreamcast- 5 games
Everything else I have 10 or more games for. Although my collection is small compared to a lot of people on here. Under 500 games total. I also am in the habit for picking up a game or two for systems I don't yet have- but I guess those wouldn't count since umm, I don't own the system yet.

My PSP. I've only kept it just because of Gurumin and Dracula X Chronicles.

I pretty much only keep my Atari Jaguar around for Iron Soldier, Castle Wolfenstein, and Tempest 2000.
I only have Sonic CD and Robo Aleste for my massive Sega CD, and that is by choice. There are only a few more games that I even want for the system (Snatcher, Android Assault, Earth Worm Jim).

For years, the only game I ever had for my Jaguar was Tempest 2000, and that was plenty to justify it! But just today, I got Checkered Flag, Missile Command 3D, and Zero 5.
Now, I guess you could say I just have the Jaguar for Tempest and Zero 5. I suppose I could do without Missile Command 3D (though it's a solid game), and Checkered Flag is pretty "meh" because of the crappy controls.

Thisis pretty much the stint of my collecting. I will buy a system, just so I can get a certain game for it.
I had an Atari Jaguar, but I sold it after I picked up Tempest 3000 for my psx. I had a few titles for it, but most were just plain bad, at least that is what I think
Other systems I still own for a few games:
Intellivision: Burgertime, Utopia, and Loco-Motion
Colecovision: Zaxxon, Frenzy and Looping.
Great thread, I am glad that I am not alone in my collecting habits..

I bought my Sega Master System just for one game: Phantasy Star. I've since discovered some other really good ones for it, but that wasn't my original intent. I also have a SegaCD, mostly due to my desire to one day own a copy of Snatcher.

Haha, those titles are actually WHY I want to pick up an intelli and a coleco. Also looking at the old TI-99/4A computer for a couple of the old arcade ports... and the BASIC module.
I collect for the NES this way. I really only pick up titles that are fun, rather than going for a complete set [too much of a headache, also too poor]. Will do the same for the SegaCD when I get one, with the possible exception of Keio Flying Squadron, though it looks fun too.

I have one game for my Atari Lynx and only seven for my two Wonderswan systems. I also only have one for my Game.com. Actually, all my handheld systems only have a few games.

My console with the least games would be the Cdi chich I have something like 5 games for, apart from that I have quite a few games for all the systems i own, but to be honest while I have 250+ xbox 1 games I only keep the console for a handful of titles, most of the the stuff like Halo I dont count as being must own/play games.

I find it funny when people say "Everything Sega but the Genesis" when I'm basically the same in reverse - everything nintendo but the SNES.
NES has a ton of games but I really only go back to three -
Mario 3
Final Fantasy
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!
SNES hit my sweet spot having a ton of Square RPGs, quirky games and some decent arcade ports.
N64 has... ummm... Mario 64 and Mario Kart... and Starfox 64. Don't bother countering with Goldeneye - I don't play FPS :D (oh, also Ocarina of Time)
Gamecube... Phantasy Star Online III?
I can tell you lots of games on each sega system (ok, maybe not 32X) that I'd actively pop in and play anytime. I dunno, Sega just owns me I guess.
Whoever said Neo Geo - hush you. I can rattle off 20 games everyone should own. Though if you're talking prices then... yeah. Probably only two per person in this economy :D

I have 15 games for my TG-16, not because I don't love the system but the games are harder to come by. I'll keep plugging away at it though. Only have about 7 games for my GBA too.

I have a tough time answering this question b/c the systems that I have either get played to death or not at all. The N64 is sitting around collecting dust right now. I'll eventually play something on it, I have Paper Mario just begging me to pop it in. Same with the 3DO. Only game I've enjoyed on it so far was Suchi Pai. Eventually I'll probably fall in love with ... Guardian wars? Why can I never remember the name of this game? It's Powers Kingdom in EU. Finally, the 32X is only used for its graphics-boosting capabilities. I have ONE game for it and I'm not sure I'll ever bother playing it (Doom).
Oh I guess the original Xbox. I played it some when I first got it and would probably pop in something at some point again. I guess you could say this about the other consoles I mentioned as well, tho.

I bought an Intellevision again just to play Bugertime. That game is still as good as I remember it from 1983. I think Bugertime's level design and difficulty is better on the Intellevision than the original arcade.
It is great to replay an old game from childhood and find it is as good as you remembered. It does happen too often, but man it is sweet when it does.

I bought an N64 in a thrift store only because I wanted to play the game Tetrisphere. I was always an Atari fan, and finding out that Tetrisphere (under a different name) was complete and ready to be released on the Atari Jaguar until Nintendo bought the developer just for that game made me want to play it. I tracked down the cart, played it for ten minutes, and didn't like it. Now my N64 is sitting in a cardboard box somewhere, forgotten and unloved.

Now that I look at my collection again, I noticed I only have 4 games I really like for my PS2. Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, and Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3.

I only use my Dreamcast for 2D fighting games at the moment, I only own about 5 games for it, it definitely gets played the least, especially with the laser being screwed up and giving no disk errors mid-way through playing a game...
Gamecube would probably be next due to having a Wii. Other than that I play just about all my systems regularly. My SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, NES, Wii, and Saturn are hooked up at the moment.

I sold my Colecovision collection a few years ago, and ended up rebuying a CV off of ebay so I could play Space Fury. Of course, that was just the beginning... I unloaded all of my more pricey Dreamcast games a little while back, and I'll probably get rid of everything except for a handful of games (Zombie Revenge, HotD, Crazy Taxi). I was going to sell the whole lot, but none of the buyers came through, which is just as well. Now I can keep the system and the handful of games I still actually play..

I purchased my N64 from a friend primarily for a small handful of games, about half of which I now own. Same with Dreamcast, though I suspect there are more games for that I would like, but haven't investigated yet. I hold out hope that I'll actually purchase or own a decent game for my Jaguar, LOL

My Sega CD wins this vote. The ONLY reason I own it is for Sonic CD...which you can get for Gamecube, emulators, etc. But nothing beats playing it on the real system.
