View Full Version : Fuck the Knicks, Marvel is out on XBLA

Yes yes Marvel vs Capcom 2 is finally out on XBLA for the low price of 1200 xbux.

It comes out on the PSN on Aug 12th for $15!

My impressions:

Great! Netcode is pretty good. 6 player lobbies, ranked matches, all the basic stuff you'd want from a fighting game. Everything comes unlocked so you don't have to spend hours in singleplayer trying to get all the characters or colours.

Basically if you like Marvel vs Capcom 2 then there's no reason not to get this.

Though so far the only problem I've seen is the character select screen lags a little online but after that it's great.

my gt is Overbite, let me take you for a ride.

I'm considering getting this on PSN, but I'm very scared. I've never spent much time on any fighting game besides Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl and I put a few hours into VF4 but didn't really get into it. And the only combos I've memorized are the ones from Devil May Cry 4.

I'm going to suck so much if I buy it, but I'm so interested in trying the game. People are going to call me a loser if I play online and I wouldn't be able to take that very well. Would the training mode help me?

There's a local multiplayer-only demo on the PSN you can try.

Be aware though that this game is super fast and crazy because there's usually like 4-6 characters jumping around at all times. It's fun to pick your fav characters and mash it out.

The combos and other moves are easier to do in Marvel because a super is something like qcf+ both punch buttons instead of the normal qcfx2+punch.

This game is nothing like Virtua Fighter.

As for training mode it will help you learn the moves but you wont really learn how to play unless you play real people. Since the game has been out for like 9 years people have had a lot of practice so yes you may get your ass kicked online but there are noob players too! I haven't played this in around 7 years so I suck!

Goddamnit it's hard trying to find where to input codes on NXE. It used to be very simple with blades but now I can't find shit :(

I did eventually find it and of course all the codes were already redeemed.

Thanks, but I'm happy with my Dreamcast version (spoken in my best old man curmudgeon voice). The new 720p, widescreen aspect ratio sure looks sweet though.

One of the few times I played this game in the arcade, I didn't realize that pushing the two middle buttons would do a two-character super. It doesn't even make sense! Why should you be able to do that continuously without having to build up your meter first? The person I was playing against was probably getting very annoyed. (This was a Venus City cabinet, so of course he was on the other side where I couldn't see him.)

Theres now a demo for this game on XBL too, despite how all the media outlets led us to believe the demo would be a PS3 exclusive. I don't think theres going to be any more exclusive PS3 third party content, just timed exclusive shit.

I want this game but I'm definitely going to wait until they have one of their weekly sales. I already have three copies of this game(DC, Xbox, PS2) and while none of them have online multiplayer, I still have three copies of it.

Are you talking about just from MvC2 or download content? I know the Joker in Arkham Asylum is said by the developers themselves that it is only PS3 exclusive and will not be on the XBL, but all other DLC released will be on both systems.

Unless the media specifically says that the developers said it, then there's really no reason to believe it. I didn't even know the MvC2 demo was supposed to be a PS3 exclusive. It was probably PS3 exclusive first because Microsoft is getting the game a week before.

Heck, you could buy a next-gen system almost with a copy of this game for each of those three systems (XBox, DC, PS2)

I bought this last night and played an offline multiplayer match with a friend of mine. The stuff I remembered and wondered was this:

1) I don't remember sucking as bad as it now as I did back then. Will definitely need to practice a lot.

2) Which buttons execute the mega specials on the 360 pad? The shoulder buttons or triggers?

3) Looks absolutely awesome, the graphics are well done.

4) Could you pick the same character three times on the other console versions?

I was playing this last night. I can't do it with the crappy 360 controller. Half the times I end up doing the wrong special move instead of a hyper and the other half I just do a punch or kick. While I'm not the best MvC2 player out there, I can beat the arcade version fairly consistantly. I barely made it to the 5th round last night due to the controller. I'm not sure what the solution is other than to but that overpirced $150 SFIV stick.

You could buy the $40 Hori EX2 stick, it works fine. It's not arcade-quality but it's a lot better than the controller.

Everywhere that announced the demo said it was exclusive to the PS3 and surely you had to have heard it being such a PS3 fan. As for the Arkham Asylum content, I'm pretty sure that's just timed exclusive too. It will most likely be downloadable on Xbox live not long after the games been out for awhile.

I never really looked it up. First news I got about it was on here and then that info from VGChartz about the PS3 getting the boxed version with a code and additional content for $20 as well as the $15 version version(which I posted on the MvC2 thread.) I only read on the MvC2 thread when finding out about the demo that it was only on the PSN and not on the 360, though never knew it was intended to be exclusive as I didn't look it up anywhere else.

Anyways. All companies make mistakes sometimes I guess. If you remember at Microsoft's E3 showing, "everything after this point is an exclusive title only for the 360." Which in the middle of that showing, Kojima came out and announced Metal Gear Solid Rising. Which later on it was clarified that MGS Rising was also on the PS3.

Either you can say that was a mistake on Microsoft's half, or if it wasn't then you can say that is a fucked up marketing technique on Microsoft's half.

*edit*

Either way though. If it wasn't that MGS is such a well loved franchise for some known reason, I wouldn't have cared if it was a 360 exclusive anyways. MGS blows if you ask me.

This wasn't so much of a mistake as it was false advertising. All the media outlets had to do is say that the MVC2 demo would be available on the PS3 first for a set amount of time, the same way they have been saying that the game itself is coming to the 360 first. But instead they just said that the demo was exclusive to the PS3, which was an outright lie.

So thats why I'm going to continue to believe that there won't really be any future PS3 exclusive third party content beyond timed exclusive. There may be a very rare occasion but I doubt Arkham Asylum will be it.

I've been reading how delayed hyper combos are the greatest thing ever, but I can't find any place that provides instructions for doing so. After spending well more than an hour in the training arena trying to figure it out, I still can't pull one off.

How does one actually do a DHC?

Changed my team over to Cable, Hayato, and Silver Samurai.

Cable is great for projectile spam, not to mention he's way over powered. Hayato is my in close guy, he just goes nuts with that sword. Silver Samurai is for those people who do nothing but block. His chip damage is insane, and he's not too bad with regular attacks.

I thought so too, but I think we're just all used to the arcade cabinet volume being turned up to one notch past deafening. :)

You may have done them already and not known what they're called. You do a super, and then do the motion+button press for a super with your next character. If you did it, the second character will tag in instantly doing that super.

Good for safer tags and for extending super damage. The same info applies to Tatsunoko vs Capcom, if you end up getting that when it comes out stateside :P

My own team is pretty scattered based on who I feel like playing...I like Cable, Sentinel, Iron Man, War Machine, Wolverine, Mega Man, Juggernaut(Power up glitch!), Captain Commando, Ryu...Dan...Rogue, Iceman, Spiral, etc. Screwing around with the game for 9 years will do that :P

kupomogli
08-03-2009, 11:00 PM
I've never been too good at the game but I've always liked Captain Commando, Ryu, Wolverine, and Strider the best out of all the characters I've played.

I'm probably a really good standard type player, but I've never been one of those players to find attacks that give an enemy this amount of knockback and then this next attack only takes this amount of time to come out etc. I do the games original long combo string that starts on the ground, hits the enemy up in the air and then finishes with four or five hits in the air and it's over. Not the one where you do the same three to four hits, knock them in the air, and do small jumps to keep them in the air and do the same two moves until you get them half their hp down.

However. I know that not many people are that good so I don't have to worry about it. Just like playing any Street Fighter, I suck at doing long combos but I'm good at the strategy aspect and common sense it comes with when playing 2d fighters, so I'm still maybe top 10,000 atleast(I was ranked 700 in SF4 at one time before Championship came out.)

If you watch the video its a mango colored sentinel. The DC version was hackable to allow custom colors, so someone colored their sentinel like a mango/the knicks

Oh, hi.

So I have this and have been playing it sporadically. It's torture without a stick but livable with the original 360 pad. Not performing as well as I would like to because of no stick. My 1st assist is rarely used and supers do not go out smoothly with that godawful d-pad. Really hurts when I lose 1/3 of my game to the controller alone. At least I cracked the top 1000 last night; record is now 15-7.

Netcode seems to be solid, only had one game completely fall out. It's actually working in my favor because even slight lag breaks Mag/IM infinites for my opponents.

I've been waiting for this ever since they announced the original XBox version... and then yanked the netcode out. Gotta say, pretty happy with it. Lag hasn't been bad for me.

XBL name is Achika. Add me plz, play me. I will come out strong with my business team (Colossus, Sentinel, Tron Bonne) but after that, I will pick just about any character. Been playing for 9 years and dropped easily $1k in quarters into my now-defunct local arcade so I've had time to practice with almost every toon. :P

Thankfully you can use your own music for the soundtrack. It's still a really fun game, but the soundtrack blows. WTF were they thinking, "hmm when people think of fighting games, they must want bad pop/jazz".
