I personally like fighting games the most for several reasons. One reason is that Street Fighter II for the SNES is the first game I've ever played, and I have many fond memories of playing that game. Also, I like the one on one concept (for most fighting games, at least). If you lose, there's no one else to blame but yourself. Also, you gotta love beating the hell out of your opponent ^_^

I don't know if could pick a genre, action adventure maybe, but that doesnt limit what I like at all. I just like what I like, and it kinda depends on what mood im in for too.

My favorite genre is the RPG. When I was a kid, my older brother played a lot of D&D. I watched him back then until I got old enough to play it. I loved using my mind to figure out what to do in different situations, taking on a different character that acted completely different than I, and just the adventure. Now, I won't say that there has been a console RPG that has come anywhere close to recreating that experience, but it was my first experience with gaming, and one of my fondest.

I played arcade games and enjoyed them just fine. But it all started for me when I got my hands on the Legend of Zelda. It was a totally different game that any that I was used to, with a large game world filled with action, adventure, secrets and mysterious. But it still wasn't what I was looking for. Phantasy Star II was what I was looking for. That was my first real RPG, and it showed me just what games were capable of. They could fill you joy or sorrow; they could haunted your dreams well after the game was over and leave you thinking and talking and wondering about them for years to come. As much as I enjoyed Asteroids or Street Fighter II or Tempest or any of the other arcade games I cherished up to that point, the RPG was the only one to truly affect me as a person, to change my outlook and give me new ideas and emotions.

I love first-person shooters because after a long day of dealing with morons and other undesirable people, I can vent my anger in a positive way: by blasting the hell out of demons, Nazis, and space aliens.

I also love platformers because of the simple controls(except for the camera), hidden stuff, grabbing treasures, and simple gameplay.

For me, it's vehicular combat games. Twisted Metal Black, Roadkill, Motor Mayhem, Demolition Racer: No Exit, Vigilante 8: Second Offense, Carmageddon, and on and on. I prefer that kind of combat to, for example, first person shooters, because I like the physics and handling of a car but with all the joy of blowing people up that comes with a good FPS.

I think the game Outlander really showed me the potential of vehicle combat games, one of the first Genesis games I bought. Before that, I only had Fatal Run on the Atari 7800 to play in that genre. Too bad this particular genre hasn't exactly had a lot of games in its stable in the past couple generations of consoles.

I like fps games because I like shooting people. Although I'm also drawn in by the storylines, shooting random people/aliens/creatures is a great way to relieve stress. And when playing online, it makes the satisfaction of killing people that much greater.

Fighters for me, just like the quick pick up and play and put down gameplay of the genre

Fighting games for me too. It all started with Yie Ar Kung Fu for me, I loved the one on one concept since the beginning. When SFIIWW came up it totally changed everything for me, I was a huge Sega Genesis fan back then and didn't care much for the SNES until SFII came up and simply forgot about the Genesis. I kept going to the arcades and was introduced to Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury, both terrible games but at the same time both had some charm I couldn't resist, SNK was just starting and experimenting with new stuff (plane shifting, spirit bar, supers, a lots of things we now take for granted) and then Samurai Shodown came out and blew my mind. It's been a long road since then and I simply can't stop playing FGs.

What I like about FGs is how they reward patience, practice, dedication, and even research abilities since any good fighting game requires you to spend lots of time actually learning the game. When I go back and look at what kind of games I played before FGs came out, it was always games that somehow involved learning patterns and were difficult without spending a good amount of time learning them (Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania 3, etc...) So It's always been about the ride, not the destination for me.

Fighting games for me too. Basically because I don't suck quite as bad as I do with other genres. I love to practice, and find new characters, all and all I love them.

To me what started my love of fighting games (if you can call it that) was Karate Champ. That game was so much fun, I still remember hitting a bull on the nose in the mini game for the first time. Awesome stuff.

I also dig strategy games. That started when I played Dune II, and now I am hooked on the Fire Emblem/Advanced Wars games on Nintendo platforms.

I love RPG's for two main reasons:

1) Story (something that RPG's are, admittedly, getting less of a monopoly on)
2) Time to consider actions (something that RPG's have, sadly, been losing for a long time with more and more timing-based actions)

I'd have to say my favorite genre would be kancho (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kancho)-type games.

RPG's

I am a sucker for a good story, it's nice to relax to because it's simple and you don't need a lot of skill in most cases. Strangely enough I love a good grind session, especially after a junk day. Finally I like to use my imagination with the plot and sort of imagine what the characters would be thinking in their situations to add to the story myself. :embarrassed:

RPGs.

The story is mainly what I go for in an RPG, but I really like the strategic gameplay. RPG titles are easy because you can think of what your next actions are or you have a sortof time limit to choose your actions. After Final Fantasy and the Dragon Warrior games on the NES, RPGs pretty much dropped off for me and then restarted as soon as I played Final Fantasy 4 for the SNES and the Phantasy Star games on the Sega Channel which from then on it was the main genre I'd look out for.

My first tactical RPG was Vandal Hearts and at the time I didn't even know about Tactics Ogre or the Fire Emblem games and never have played the Shining Force games, so right then it was one of my favorite games. Played FFTactics, Vanguard Bandits, Tactics Ogre, then Brigandine next. Vanguard Bandits was a great game, but FFT, TO, and Brigandine immediately became favorites of mine, though Xenogears was actually my favorite for the gameplay and amazing storyline for awhile(tended to drop after awhile because I played it way too much but I still go back to it.) Arc the Lad Collection came out and while I wasn't too fond of the original and the third was only good, the second one again jumped everything else with how amazing the game was. We got crap like Hoshigami and Eternal Eyes which I picked up solely because they were tactical RPGs. Good games like FFTA, Tactics Ogre KoL, remake of Shining Force(which by this time I've already played the original,) Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter, Jeanne D Arc, and Wild ARMs XF. These games are amazing. I did like Disgaea the first time I played it, but as soon as I beat the game and there was no storyline, I stopped playing because the gameplay truly is awful and the storyline isn't really that good after you've already seen it once.

So overall in RPG titles, tactical games are my favorites but I really like the strategy involved in all RPGs and there are alot of regular titles that are better than alot of the tactical titles in my opinion.

Other than RPG titles, it's platformers. In my NES days other than Final Fantasy I would always be on a platformer more than any other style of game. Even when younger I was able to one life games like Astyanax and the original Castlevania and still can. I remember always being at my sisters house for Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 but didn't play the first one that much because it was too hard for me at the time(and it's still way harder than the second.) I actually never played the third until the first time emulation was around and it's still a great game, just does have a few problems with difficulty, delayed attack, and a floaty jump which screws me hard. Don't know about Ninja Gaiden 2 when I was younger, but now I can one continue it(which I'm still going to make that video) and I can also one continue the original Contra without the code(the only Contra I've actually ever beat, never put any time into the second game as I've never owned it.)

There were many other platformer games, but just naming the main ones I played. After the PSX came out and there were 3d platformers, I actually didn't play any of those aside from Tomb Raider, Tail Concerto, Xenogears(which had platforming,) and Crash Bandicoot. At that time I was too into RPGs and for the PSX I honestly got nothing but RPG titles unless it was Mega Man, Armored Core, Castlevania, or a couple fighting games.

When games mix my favorite two genres together, I'm always pretty excited. Xenogears with it's amazing storyline and good gameplay and Wild ARMs 4 with it's decent storyline and really good gameplay both have platforming which are some definite bonus points towards me replaying the game more than once.

Platformers, Adventures, or a mix. I love games like Super Mario 64, Psychonauts, or Sonic Adventure.

They can be atmospheric and pull you in. Whilst RPGs draw you into the story, you feel more like an observer, when adventures make you feel like the actual character. It feels like you, and you're in a different reality. Plus, there's exploration. When you don't feel like following the storyline, you can just goof off and exploit the main character's abilities for your entertainment. It's a blast.

i like rpg's because they take me in with their story and setting.. not just a simple hopping around jumping on stuff.. no, strategy, character building, story etc :)

It's hard for me to choose one genre, but I would have to say..."adventure." Such as Zelda titles. I love being able to explore and find out what you have to do. I always love going around the world in a Zelda game, and finding a hidden heart piece.
