This week I felt like getting some wholesome family friendly games. You know, stuff the whole family could play. So when deciding where to look, it occured to me that theres no better place to look than a flea market.....a church flea market. Does it get more family friendly than that? Well, I'm an atheist so I really wouldn't know. But there was a nearby church that had a flea market advertised in the local pennysaver so I decided to jaunt down there. Upon arrival, I saw alot of common but worthless titles. Don't get me wrong, Sonic 2 and SMB 2 are great games, but they aren't exactly rare. And I have a wife, girlfriend, mistress, and 14.2 kids to feed so I needed something with alittle more value proposition. And thats when I came across Pastor Pete's table.
http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr306/THE-1-2-P/HPIM1158.jpg
Pastor Pete was a young soft spoken gentleman that I desperately wanted to call Paste Pot Pete(of Spider-Man fame) but I figured that would be disrespectful so I kept that to myself. Along with little trinkets and toys, he had a basket of games that I searched thru. He had a few decent Nes, Snes and Genesis games marked at $1.00 so I snatched those up. Then I noticed that behind him on the floor was a box marked "adult". I normally wouldn't have even cared about a pastor's porn stash but sticking out of it was what appeared to be a Famicom vhs style import game. I asked about the box and he cautiously put it on the table behind his other stuff. I suppose that was a hint that he didn't want other patrons to see it but at this point in time I was the only one at his table. As I searched thru the mature(none were really adult) titles I noticed that they were all imports. I inquired where he got them from and he told me that they were acquired over the years as part of his gaming collection that he had to recently give up for his newly chosen profession. As weird as it was to imagine a pastor or priest playing games online, I could totally see him owning someone in Doom.
http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr306/THE-1-2-P/HPIM1161.jpg
I asked how much for the entire box of mature games and he gave me a baffled look. I told him I was a game collector and wanted to add this stuff to my collection. He then warned me to be careful because adult games can lead down the path of damnation. I then informed him that damnation was a place called Roanoke Virginia, and although very disorientating, you can eventually find your way back home. His smirk assured me that he trusted that I wasn't going to suddenly become blinded with lust over pixelated boobies......whatever that means. Although I thought it strange to find so many imports at a church flea market, I thought it stranger that a pastor would be the one selling them as opposed to all the other vendors there. But after I took them off his hands we began talking about gaming in general and he told me about his hardcore gaming days from the early 90's until a fews years before he started training to be a pastor. I thought this was such an uncanny occurance , as a man of the cloth and a man of the controller were comparing gaming stories. Plus, that sounds much more interesting than saying I bought them from an online dealer.
Ok, so I embellished alittle bit but keep in mind this came from my lastest blog entry. Instead of starting a new thread, I have a question about the famicom adult games for anyone who knows. Awhile ago I heard from someone that they were made from the same company(Sachen) that made the Nes ones. Is this true? And if it is, does anyone know what they are generally worth?

Congrats on the LD player - hopefully it's a model with good composite output.
It's a Pioneer CLD-M301. From what I'm gathering, it's not an amazing unit, but I got a decent deal at $25 considering it included the remote, corroded batteries and all. The fast-forward button is smashed in on the unit, but I haven't tried to open it yet. It's a good start, if I can find anything to test it with. Says it plays "CDV" as well as LaserDisc, but my bootleg Char's Counterattack VCD doesn't seem to play. Either I'm not doing something right, or it's time to learn about optical video formats.
It had a disk inside that I didn't see when I tested it in the shop. Considering that I had to shake the machine upside-down with the tray open, I can understand why. Some kind of burned Spanish music, not my thing. CD audio quality is nice, though

Man, so many great finds by everyone lately. Love reading about them, so keep 'em coming!
This was from a CL ad about an SNES w/ 6 games for $50. They had a number, so I just called up to see what the games were. Busy signal, so I looked some more and saw the same person with 2 NESs w/ 5 games per for $40 each. I wasn't going to even ask about these, but it made me decide to call again. A pretty old dude answered (70's I'd guess after meeting him) and he misunderstood me asking about the SNES and told me he had ~50 NES games, so I could just pick any 5, and they'd be $2 each after that. Well, the SNES games were all crap except SMW, but I decided to drive up to check out the NES games. He didn't make me buy a system, so got all these for $2 each. His stash was picked over for mainstream stuff (no SMB1, 2 or 3), and then he mentioned that he had a daughter that had taken a bunch when she went to college, so mystery solved. He also said he picks these up when he sees them at garage sales, so now I know who to push down when racing into sales *_*.

Wizardry is the one that's hard to make out.
Tangent: I've noticed that Battletoads seems to be the most consistently great-condition game that I come across. Maybe it is one I pay more attention to or something, but it just seems out of all the games I've seen multiple copies of, this one is always in great shape.

A WORTHY 1000th post, Had a busy day today with errands, went to ups, fedex, and post office, lol that must be a record, then went to half price books and traded in two boxes of books, my local bestbuy was sold out of the asus laptop i wanted so i had to drive a few more miles to another best buy to get it. I spent 1000 just a year ago in my vaio laptop but hate it and sold it on ebay,
I decided to check out the 2 goodwills on my route and did pretty nicely as an unusual surprise, All the game were 1.99 each, the saturn games are in excellent shape. The nes games were just put on the shelf today. I took a chance thinking the nt server was worth hundreds but sadly its not. The sims were marked 2 each.

Video CDs are entirely different from laserdiscs, you won't be able to play them on your new machine. VCD is MPEG-1, DVD is MPEG-2. There were no standards for MPEG video when Laserdiscs were invented. I'm not even sure if CDs were on the market when laserdisc players were introduced.

More to the point, laserdiscs predate computers cheap, powerful, and small enough to fit inside a player. Laserdiscs store the video as composite signals, and so most of the time you'll want to hook them up via composite (not even S-video).
Video CDs can be played on a modern computer if you have the appropriate software. I'm betting VLC will get the job done on Windows.

Compact Disc was reverse-engineered from LaserDisc technology and released around 1982. LaserDisc was released in 1978.
Certain LaserDisc players allowed VCD playback. These were the DVD playing DVL-XXX series players produced until recently.

I've won 2 lots of 3 NES games on eBay.
One lot was for $4.94 and included After Burner, Sky Shark, and Twin Eagle. The other lot was for $4.77 and included Astyanax, Castlevania, and Bayou Billy. I bought the second lot just for the Castlevania. I just got 3 and I already had 2 so I figured I might as well finish the trilogy on the cheap.

Recognize any of those? Any of them good? ;)
I felt these deserved a little bit larger images than I normally do. Each lot was $75, but I did have to drive about 35 min. each way to get them. Also, the guy wouldn't budge on price since he'd gotten a lot of calls (this was off CL).
The PS lot was why I drove there. He listed Wild Arms, Grandia, Lunar, MGS, and Alundra, and he had the small CL picture which I could make out Einhander, SOTN, and some others in, but Suikoden was a nice surprise. Almost all of it is in excellent condition, so I'll be upgrading many of my copies, and adding some good games, too.
I was really on the fence about the SNES lot. He just had the tiny CL picture and no list in the ad, so I couldn't make out many of the games (FFII and Kart were the only notables I could tell for sure). I asked about the lot when I was there, though, and he brought it out. Since I don't need any of the expensive games for my collection it was a tough call, but I'll keep many of the cheap ones, so still worth it. Too bad Mario RPG is messed up, but it seems like a lot of these were rentals, so that's pretty common.
This guy was pretty much out in the boonies, but he had a funny security system. When I pulled up, he waved me in off the street with what I thought was a white piece of paper he was holding (I think it was a handkerchief on a clipboard) . Well, as I was leaving he walked out the drive a little and waved it again and told me more or less that that was the "all clear" symbol to his neighbor across the way.
edit: oh yeah, the SNES lot had the system, 2 cont, and hookups, and the PS1 lot had a system, memory card, hookups, and 1 controller.

Very nice Kitsune. Congrats!
I'm not going to bother with a picture after that. I went to a few thrifts, but only found a few things. My favorite store (Unique) always has tons of loose discs in baggies hanging over the shelves of totally random stuff (where I find cart games if they have them). Well, not much of interest on the shelves today, so I was looking at the loose CD baggies a little more than usual, especially since they had 4 PS1 decks so I thought there might be games. It is kind of a pain, though, because they'll usually have 4 discs per bag, and the bags aren't very big so seeing the two middle discs is difficult. Well, glancing at one bag, I could tell someone else had already pushed the discs apart and peeking out was a distinctive brown/gold/orange color. So along with 3 other junk discs, I got The Neverhood for 1.40. Very nice condition, too.
Also found a bare NES for 10 and MegaMan X for 5, both at goodwill.

I haven't had the opportunity to go thrift store shopping in my area in three weeks. I'm either sitting in the waiting room at the Saturn dealership, or driving my half blind mom to her friend's house and back or to the doctor's office. I've been jonesing to hit the local thrifts, and hoping that in my down time they've been building up stock on all the geeky stuff I like. Well, things don't turn out like I ever hope they will. I did the rounds today, and found absolutely nothing. Not a damn thing. I even went out of my usual area to a fairly new Goodwill (which was packed to the rafters with customers) and found a bunch of games but nothing I needed. So on the way back I stopped at a couple of Movie Trading Company locations and bought some Genesis games:
Rings of Power (loose) $7.99
Castlevania Bloodlines (loose) $7.99
Bonanza Brothers (boxed but no manual) $4.99
Growl (loose) Free because of their 'buy 3 get 1 free' used game sale.

If I were you, I'd sell the cart for a quick profit now, and keep everything else. When you find another Earthbound for cheap, complete your set. Think of it this way, when are you ever going to get it again?
Well... I already beat Earthbound over ten years ago. I rented it and beat it over a weekend or two back when I was in high school. So even though I think it's an awesome game... I have no real attachment to it. (Unlike Final Fantasy III, which I spent A MONTH playing from start to finish and is probably my most favorite game ever. And I don't intend to sell my beat up CIB copy.)
That and I don't even own a SNES anymore. I can't play it. Bills are more important right now, and I need money to start up my business project. :|

On that note, I'm leaving Bronkie on eBay for maybe a week. If I don't get any offers, I'll keep it.
NayusDante actually has a great idea. But it looks like you already have the complete thing up for sale.

Nice find Kitsune!
Anyway here's most of the swag I've looted over the past few weeks. I don't remember exact pricing on the stuff, but all carts were .99 to 1.99 and the INTV was under $10.
Space Armada INTV (missing inserts and overlays)
Thin Ice INTV (this was a .99 R5!)
Thunder Blade SMS (missing manual)
Raiders of the Lost Ark 2600
MASH 2600
Swordquest Earthworld 2600
Empire Strikes Back 2600
Donkey Kong Jr. Colecovision
Centipede Colecovision
Dig Dug 7800
Intellivision - works great, a little dirty, but excellent shape
All this stuff came from Play N Trade or Goodwill Computer Works.

My brother would probably do next to anything for that CIB Earthbound.
Actually... that sure would make a nice xmas gift.
If you're interested in selling, shoot me a PM.

I did the rounds today, and found a boxed and virtually unused Bandai Pair Match for $4.99, a boxed Radio Shack Sonar Sea Battle (missing the pegs and with severe battery corrosion) for $4.29, a loose Bubble & Squeak for the Genesis for $1.99, and a boxed NES Advantage for $4.99.

You might recognize the Pair Match tabletop game. They were used as props in Ten-Forward on Star Trek: The Next Generation because they looked so cool and futuristic.

I picked up a couple of complete PS1 games at Value Village yesterday:
Hot Shots Golf - $2.99
Hot Shots Golf Round 2 - $2.99
Grand Theft Auto 2 - $4.99
Now I just have find time to test them. I keep getting sidetracked by other games that I've left half finished. Last night, it was Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

I went to the flea market expecting to find nothing... I bought some sort of Diablo level editing / anti hacking (?!) CD with tips and I dunno what for fifty cents. The same booth had a bunch of scanners and printers. One of 'em catches my eye, and I ask how much. He says ten bucks, I say thanks and start walking away when he says "Allright, take it for five bucks!" I grimace... he found my weak spot. :p So I buy it. I didn't bring it home with me because the thing was bulky and I was afraid Mexican customs would take it.
My brother brought it here a few hours ago. I set it up and the thing works beautifully. I decide to check out Amazon and I find that it has mostly five star reviews and someone is selling it used for $140. Of course, that price is insane, but apparently this little thing is very well built. It sells for $25 + shipping on average on eBay. I think I did OK. ^^

There might be a Pokemon or two in there, I wouldn't count on it though.
Last night at Play N Trade I got a Genesis fighter stick (ASCIIWare) for $10, and CIB Doom 32X for $3. The stick is actually going to be used as a main controller for my 2600, since I honestly don't care for the real joystick. It's a nice compromise between a Genesis/SMS controller and an Atari joystick, so I'm happy.

Should still be able to make a nice profit after some cleaning/bundling/reselling.
