I'm assuming you consider Power Stone as a regular fighting game. But hey, at least there's Power Stone 2.

It's great that Crazy Taxi is there.

So, my nominations are:

Chef's Luv Shack (C'mon, we need trivia!)
PenPen Trialcelon.

Can't wait for September!

Are any of the SJC regulars good at Ikaruga? I love the game, but am terrible at it. I think I'd enjoy seeing an expert go through it.

Mr. Driller's a good, maybe lower-profile title that people may be interested to see.

Rez could be another good one.

I love the Dreamcast, and may have to get myself down there for the September meet.

am i the only true sega arcade gamer left on the entire interwebs?!?

VOOT, Confidential Mission, Sports Jam, and Dynamite Cop 2 for crying out loud. Arcade perfect at home is what the made the DreamCast truly amazing...this was PS-X era, remember?

*jeesh*

i wasn't kidding about GunBeat either. there has to be a dump of that jawn somewhere.

Capcom did their thing w/ Tech Romancer, PowerStone, Mars Matrix, and Rival Schools2.

Psychic Force...yo, i'm gonna have an conniption fit. ALL ARCADE FEKKING PERFECT. in the era of broke azz jaggie polygons. i'll never forget the 'i just fell down the rabbit hole' feeling playing PowerStone and 16 player LANd Sega Rally 2 @ E3 in '99. Its like Sega owed SNK an appology, 'cause the future really was now.

before i give myself carpal tunnel syndrome suggesting games far and wide, what are the ground rules?

i think we should keep it domestic to keep the 9/9/99 flavor.

i think there should be a redeux launch party...playing the games avail @ US launch in a block.

i think VMU mini game tourney is a must. not only am i the 1st and only MOTW 2-D beat off champ- i RULE @ 'love and punches' VMU. test me @ your own risk...i will leave you standing on scorched earth.

we gotta get a NGPC linked up to the DC for sheer radness of it.

Having a 1st party (SEGA) bloc, a 2nd party (Capcom) bloc, and a 3rd party (Rage, Psykyo, Taito et al) bloc would be cool.

So much goodness to choose from, in so many genres! The more I think about it...this may possibly be my favorite system.

I've two sets of Maracas if needed for the weekend.

I'm assuming you consider Power Stone as a regular fighting game. But hey, at least there's Power Stone 2.

no way is Power Stone a 'regular' fighting game: YOU CAN'T BLOCK.

with no corner traps, no turtling possible, and and the unique interaction with the levels themselves...this game is a thing unto itself.

i wouldn't even call it a fighter it is so different from the traditional fighter formula.

and 2? an even more bizare kettle of fish. more like a beat 'em up, platformer, boss rush cartoon.

i *adore* both of these games to pieces, and think they are terribly underrated. in the 3 yrs of SJCs, as a group we have only played PowerStone 2 ONCE.

a crime, that.

Drexel923
08-03-2009, 06:48 PM
The only ground rules so far is that I will approve what games are being played and make a schedule. I really want to make this gathering into an "event" of sorts. Almost like a history lesson in addition to playing games :) Keep those suggestions coming and by all means second and third each other's games to help influence my decision ;)

I know, I own and love Power Stone, it's not your regular fighting game. I was wondering why he put Power Stone 2 in and not Power Stone. I was wondering if I could recommend about it. I'll recommend Power Stone, since I like Power Stone more than Power Stone 2. Power Stone 2 is too much like Super Smash Bros. really.

I'm sorry, but I don't like that VMU mini-game idea. It would be good idea if the VMU games were good, but most of them suck eggs, especially the Power Stone ones.

More recommendations:

Power Stone
NBA Showtime: NBA On NBC (NBA Jam on Dreamcast!!!)

Edit - Updated August 5th

There is too much stuff to cover in too little time! I'll probably make a separate post with highlights of what I would like to play most.

I quickly went through the US Dreamcast library and highlighted the titles I think think are the best. I included some fighters I think should make an appearance. I also left out some games I haven't played enough to judge either way such as Ooga Booga, Rippin' Riders and Fur Fighters. I'm really up for anything though, and am willing to play the crappy games as well.

I know I've been talking about getting a DC Link cable to play Vs. Link games VOOT and F355. I'm afraid it's starting to look like that isn't going to happen. If we don't do it this time, we will definitely do it some other time.

Chef's Luv Shack (C'mon, we need trivia!)
PenPen Trialcelon
I remember Chef's Luv Shack as being terrible, but I would give it a shot for five minutes. We could also try PenPen, I think that would be a decent 4 player game to try, definitely better than it would be against AI.

Are any of the SJC regulars good at Ikaruga? I love the game, but am terrible at it. I think I'd enjoy seeing an expert go through it.

Mr. Driller
Rez

I'm good at the first level of Ikaruga, after that though, I suck.

Propeller Arena

-Toy Commander Holiday Mission

Seconding those games at the top.

We should not keep it domestic. A "launch party block" would be cool though!.

If anyone wants to bring VMU games, please do. The only ones I have tried are the Chao game from Sonic Adventure and Snake from Trickstyle. I can bring batteries.

Definitely bring your maraccas!

...Again?

And Vectorman, Chef's Luv Shack isn't all that bad, it just has very odd questions to say the least. Some of the mini-games are pretty bad, but other than that I think it's a half-decent game.

Also, I second the following:
Toy Commander
Worms Armageddon
Disney's Magical Tour
Bust-a-move 4

I know theres a ban on fighters but I think we should atleast play some JoJo's Bizarre adventure. It has never made an appearance at any of the gatherings and it is vastly improved compared to the PS1 counterpart.

...Again?

@ Baloo: astute observation, one of us old timers should've caught this 1st. the thing is, GAC spends many of these SJC gatherings @ GAC gatherings@_@.

i ain't hatin' tho...i remember the days of my bachelorhood when i too was a social butterfly!

the presence of our main w/ the complete DC set will really be missed at this one.

You know i am a bigger fan of JPN stuffs than domestic...the idea came from 1) Celebrating the domestic anniversary w/ domestic softs and 2) we will need an entire weekend to fit both import and domestic games in at the rate suggestions are coming in.

Glad i'm not holding the editors pen on this one...the final cut is gonna be wicked hard to make.

The maracas will be in the bldg!

I don't see how I can miss this and I can't wait for it because I'm getting tired of having plans on the first Saturday of every month that don't include this.

As for games I second Bomberman Online, Ikaruga, Under Defeat, Worms Armageddon, Space Channel 5 (1 or 2), and San Francisco Rush 2049.

Also, I suggest someone do a playthrough of Shenmue.

Vectorman0
08-05-2009, 11:06 AM
Specific Suggestions:

4-Player Rush 2049 Triathlon - stunt mode, battle mode & race

2-Player Typing of the Dead with keyboards (I can bring both keyboards)

2-Player Samba de Amigo with maracas (we need you, Jim!)

2-Player Virtual On with twin sticks (I don't have any)

2-Player House of the Dead 2, Virtua Cop 2, Confidential Mission with lightguns (I have lightguns)

4-Player Virtua Tennis, Propeller Arena, Unreal Tournament, Re-volt, Chu Chu Rocket, Gigawing 2, Looney Tunes Space Race, Power Stone 2, Toy Commander, Worms Armageddon/World Party (Only if all four players know how to play and are up for the game)

Fishing rods - I think Sega Marine Fishing has some good mini-games we can play, but is only 1 player simultaneous

I have a pair of maracas and twin sticks I can bring. I can also bring two keyboards so you don't have to worry about packing them if you want Vector.

I also have Twan Stacks.

Looks like multiplayer, multi-perif style for VOOT and Samba are GO...if Drex approves.

Anyone have Samba 2k? It never made it stateside, which is a shame. The Ricky Martin remixes are apparently the bombbomb.

It'd be interesting to see (if Nick's up for it) how many DC systems we could actually have set up at the store. Then we can do a kind of "around the world" thing with different games set up at each station. I can bring a system with VGA box and monitor if desired (and naturally I still have controller extension cables).

Yeah, I hear you can play it with the Keyboard as well, but I don't think we should allow Soul Calibur due to the fact that if we let one game in, we should let all games in, blah blah blah. And who would want to play it with the Fishing Rod?

And who would want to play it with the Fishing Rod?

At the very least, the entire membership of Big Club wants to play it w/ the Fishing Rod. They are a pretty major lobbying group for this meet up.

Also, if ok'd by mngmt- i can bring a copy of Yu's GameWorks w/me. This is a neat book/game combo, and an interesting slice of DC history. Currently digging up pics and jounal entries from E3 '99 where the DC was 1st unleashed upon the Western market...and the definite highlight of my time in the industry.

How about you let a few people run mini-tournaments/contests? We could submit our ideas/plans to you and you could give the go ahead to a few of them.

Also, maybe there could be an hour set aside to "show and tell" where people get to show off their favorite little known DC games.

Also, just a note. We will need volunteers to donate stuff for the day. Check the bottom of the original post for a list of what we need. Post here if you can bring any of those items and I will mark you down. All items will be received and marked so there is no confusion as to who's items are who's. Please be able to be here early so we can use your items at their correct times.

i used to have the same problem: replacing the GDROM drive fixed me right up. these may still be available @ NCSX.com. depending on the price (they were 60usd when i replaced mine a few years ago) you may be better served by just buying or trading for a DCsystem.

You can mark me down for a Dreamcast and four controllers. I need to check my list to see which of the remaining games I have.

Round 2: Typing of the Dead Boss Rush.
One thing about this game is that it requires a nice table to have the keyboard on to play properly. Imagine typing as fast as you pull the trigger in House of the Dead 2 - it doesn't work too well when you are trying to type with the keyboard in your lap.

King of Fighters R-2 and Match of the Millennium for NGPC unlock hidden goodies for SNK vs Capcom and KoF 1999 Dream Fight for Dreamcast. Or was it vice-versa? Anyway, I can bring my NGPC plus an extra and the games except KOF (don't have it).

Is it possible to bring my Dreamcast? It's Sega Sports Edition, but only one controller.

BTW, anybody bringing complete NGPC or rare Turbo Grafx games? Really set on finishing the collection.

I'd like to keep the systems and the controllers together so I'm going to wait and see if we can get more full set donations first. I will give you a shout if I need you to bring the two controllers.

Alright, I'll just bring Sonic Adventure then.

Don't go too crazy with VGA set ups, a lot of games do not support it. Plus you need external speakers.

But it is so portable! Well I'll bring my TV then.

Does anyone have a NiGHTS box and manual they can bring to the next SJC that they're getting rid of?

DC System with 4 Controllers - Jeremy
DC System with 4 Controllers - Micky
DC System with 4 Controllers - Jeff

the lend list shows (4) systems...w/only 2 TVs at the store, how are we squaring this?

do we need more tvs/monitors?

how many systems do you plan on having live? just curious.

for every VGA set up, we will need POWERED speakers. i nominate DK to scour the Goodwills for a set or two.

We will have 4 TVs going at once. I'm pretty sure Jeremy is bringing a TV...if I need an extra one I will add it to the donate list.

Also, considering what Jeff said about VGA (and I've seen it first hand), I don't think its worth taking up space in the store when most games won't run. So don't bother bringing the VGA this time.

i think we are missing an opportunity to celebrate one of the DreamCasts' great upsides during erm, a DreamCast celebrationX_x.

As the 1st console to offer Analog HD capabilities w/ out a mod/upscanconverter/micomsoft aftermarket box it is a shame to not showcase this.

i haven't heard back in regards to NGPC link cable activities either...SO,

let's treat this like the 'game' suggestions.

Can a brother get some '2nds' for some VGA and link cable love?:lovin:

btwn my small folding gray table, Jeremy's 15" monitor, and my tiny speakers space shouldn't be an issue. Nick, you know that i respect your wishes...just asking for a reconsideration if we can get some '2nds'. Many of the games on the itinerary for the day work w/VGA.

if no one is really interested, consider my pie-hole shut.

Let us celebrate! 3rd-ed!

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone as I've been away for what I would consider a long time.

Jeremy, is there a chance you could have my arcade stick done by this so I can pick it up? That would be awesome, plus I could show it off. :p

I loved the VGA box for the DC, and they are really pretty small and light. I don't see any reason not to bring them, aside from Nick's declarations. Nick, if you're OK with them, I 3rd them.

Of course, as somebody who's only ever shown up for 2 or 3 South Jersey Classics at most, my opinion ought to count for less than a bum's sock. But I offer it anyway. :)

I didn't mean not have a VGA set up *at all*...just don't have them exclusively as there are occasional unpleasant compatibility surprises.

Drexel923
08-28-2009, 12:17 PM
VGA is a go....NGPC Link is a no-go.

One of the TVs will be a Moniter with VGA hooked up (also with the ability of regular composite if needed). So we need the masters of DC info to pop in here...of the games we are playing, which ones are VGA compatible? Hopefully 1 from each group can be used.

As far as NGPC goes...while I can appreciate it, this is an only DC gathering. No other systems will be on including the arcade machines.
