I know that Indiana Jones Staff of Kings includes Fate of Atlantis and Metal Gear Solid 3 includes the original 2 games for the MSX. What other games have come out recently that have complete classic games contained in them or included on the disc? Apologies if there has already been a thread started about this but I couldn't find anything.

I know that Shenmue has the arcade, DK 64 has the original arcade game, the remake of Rondo of Blood for the PSP has the original and Symphony of the night. Any Others?

I love it when games do this. Like when Day of the Tentacle (not recent anymore, but hey, it's still a rad example) included Maniac Mansion in there. Legend of the Mystical Ninja's inclusion of the first stage of Gradius was neat, too. Such an awesome feature.

It's a damn shame that the Metal Gear Solid Essentials box strips the second disc from Subsistence, because otherwise it'd be the ultimate Metal Gear starter set (only missing Portable Ops and Metal Gear Solid 4 as far as the main storyline goes). I guess for $30, it's really hard to complain...but yea.. :)

Does Doom in Doom 3 for Xbox count or is that not recent enough? Because if not then I've really got nothing :(

Contra NES and Super C in Contra IV is the latest example I can think of. Nowadays people are thinking "gee, why don't we just sell these on XBLA and Virtual Console"

Let me think for a bit here:

-Sonic Adventure DX for Gamecube has the Sonic GameGear titles
-Star Fox Assault contains Xevious (arcade)
-TMNT2: Battle Nexus contains TMNT: The Arcade Game
-TMNT3: Mutant Nightmare contains TMNT Turtles in Time (arcade)
-Metroid: Zero Mission contains Metroid (NES)
-All of the Super Mario Advance titles contain Mario Bros. (arcade?)
-One of the Ninja Gaiden games for XBOX contains the NES titles

Wolfenstein for the Xbox had the original Wolfenstein 3d.

The first Prince of Persia on the Xbox had Prince of Persia 1 & 2 as unlockables.

Outrun 2 on the Xbox has the original Outrun.

Pitall the Mayan Adventure has the 2600 version of Pitfall.

The two Xbox Ninja Gaiden titles had the arcade game in 1 and the NES releases in the other.

Donkey Kong 64 also has Jetpac.

Metroid Prime includes the original Metroid when you link it with Metroid Fusion.

Most GBA Mario titles included the redone take on Mario Brothers, including all four Mario Advance releases (Poster above only ever mentioned that 1 of them did until he edited it after this).

It did. You needed a cheat device to get it, along with Super Mario Bros., Punch-Out!, and two other titles, however.

360 Quake 4 had Quake 2 iirc. If it'd had Quake 3 it'd probably have seen more time in the disc tray, but hey ho.

Didn't Madden '09 20th Anniversary Edition come with Madden '93?

Yeah, but you need to unlock (find) them.

Zelda was in it, but I think it required a game genie to unlock.

Incidentally - I'm looking for a memory card with a fully loaded Animal Crossing save on it (all the NES games). PM me if you have one. :)

Panzer Dragoon Orta has the original Panzer Dragoon on the disc. Now if they could get Saga out there so we don't have to pay a ransom for the saturn version.

Has the Simpsons Arcade ever been an unlockable for a console game?

Looking around...I don't see any evidence it was, and I think I would've heard about it. I definitely remember reading about the TMNT games being included in the recent Xbox games.

Panzer Dragoon Orta has the original Panzer Dragoon on the disc.
Just FYI, this is the PC version of Panzer Dragoon and not the Saturn version.

The PC version of the modern The Bard's Tale contains the original trilogy of games. I don't believe the console versions got the same treatment, though, possibly because they were released quite a bit before the PC version.

Can't think of anything else that has not already been mentioned at the moment.

Careful, sir: ONLY the Subsistence version includes it, NOT the Snake Eater version.

Also, they're on Disc 2, so make sure if you're going for GameStop used that it has BOTH discs (since disc 1 is their only requirement for a trade-in... *cries*)

Actually, it was an Action Replay. Game Genie hasn't existed since pre-PSX days.

You could just get an Action Replay or an SD card adapter for Gamecube.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III Rebel Strike for Gamecube contains:

Star Wars Arcade (1983 vector version)
Emipre Strikes Back Arcade
Return of the Jedi Arcade

Lunar Silver Star Story for PS1 contains an unlockable "homage" to Warlords on the Atari 2600 hidden on the "making of" disc. It's not a ROM, but it's pretty much an exact remake of Warlords.

doom 3 collectors edition for xbox had the original doom and another doom game built on the disc.

...with splitscreen 2-4 player multiplayer. Don't forget that.

The stand-alone expansion for Doom 3, Resurrection of Evil has Ultimate Doom, Doom II and all the Master Levels for Doom II. At least the Xbox version does. Not sure about the PC expansion.

One of the versions had some previously unreleased DOOM levels built-in - although I understand one of the levels had an unbeatable bug to it, which was fixed by people who pulled the WADs out for playing on a PC. As always, PC users win.

-Tekken 5 had the arcade versions of Tekken 1, 2, and 3
Not to mention Starblade Alpha was an unlockable in Tekken 5 too. Yes, the full arcade game, not just that demo while the game boots up.

I'm trying to think of other examples but I think everyone has it pretty well covered.

It's actually the reason I bought MGS3 again. I already had Snake Eater, but went on a quest for the Subsistence version just to get those two games. Besides the fact that good MSX emulators are few and far between on Linux (read: command-line-only, at least at the time I was looking for it (and, also, as far as I could find -- maybe they exist?)), the translation on the Subsistence disc 2 is MUCH better than the original translation of the first game and the fan translation of the second.

Also, MSX is EXPENSIVE. $20 hurt a lot less to have a console version of MG1 & 2 than it would to buy a Japanese MSX2 and both games.

Looks like I'm on a hunt for some Subsistence... I been wanting to play the MSX versions for quite awhile now and have been too lazy to set up an emulator. A superior translation on console makes the emu need moot.

The Xbox Dooms are appealing as well. Good times. :)

How easy is it to unlock? I'd like to play it but don't think I'd enjoy playing a Tekken game.

Donkey Kong 64 had the original Donkey Kong arcade game from 1981 in it. You had to beat all four levels in the arcade game in order to finish the final world in DK64. Also, the classic computer game, Jetpac, was included in the game.

Crud. I remember that Sonic Adventure DX had those Game Gear games tacked on. I always found it to be a total last-minute tack-on job along with those stupid missions.

You can either pick up the Geosword in the Devil Within side game or beat Tekken 5 Arcade mode with every single character.

Leo_A

Thanks, but that's all meaningless to me, I've never played the game. I'm not a fan of the series or fighters in general.

Is picking up that sword something that is easily done with just a few minutes invested? Or will it be something that requires a several hour investment if I'm lucky?

The Dig has Lunar Lander

Certain releases of Quake for PC had a folder called idStuff, which contains encrypted archives of Doom, Heretic, Hexen, etc. Lots of old id stuff. You were supposed to call in or mail order a registration key, which would be the password for the file archive. It's like Steam without the Internet or any updates. To my knowlege, nobody ever cracked it. I suppose people would just pirate the games instead.
