Hi folks. A long time ago I picked up a wireless xbox 360 controller from goodwill for cheap. (Don't have a 360 but I bought the wireless PC adapter for it, guess I thought I'd play some Halo on the computer or something.) Turns out the left trigger (LT) does not work. Everything else works fine. Wondering if it's worth finding a screwdriver bit long enough to open it up and try to fix, or should I just get rid of it? If I try to fix it, anything in particular I should be looking for? TIA.

If I remember right, screws are hidden under some of the stickers and need a torx or star bit. As for how the controller itself works, you're on your own with that one.

To open it up you're going to have to break off the small rod in the center of ever screw with a small flat head (I use a glasses screwdriver), then use a torx to actually unscrew it. It's really a pain.

Sorry for bumping an old dead thread but I finally fixed my controller. Purchased a T-8 security screwdriver from ebay seller dagamedepot and got a good deal. Opened the controller (after finding the mystery 7th screw), pulled the board out, fiddled with the trigger mechanism, and ran an alcoholed qtip over the contacts on the component that the trigger turns. Little mini potentiometer or whatever it is. Looked like there was the tiniest little bit of white schmuntz on those contacts. Put it back together and it seems to be working fine now. Go me. :)

Thankfully it is usually that easy. Congrats.
And HappehLemons, that has to be the stupidest thing I've read this week. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to track down a proper screwdriver. Seeing as your post is 2 years old I can only hope your advice didn't get too far.
