Is it possible to get a replacement battery? The one on my Sega CD model 2 won't recharge, even after leaving the thing on for hours.

Don't think it's rechargable, bud. It's a CR2016.

It's a ML2016 65mhA rechargeable battery. If you intent to put in a CR2016 install a blocking diode so that it doesn't corrode or explode.

Huh. See, the one I removed from my Model 2 was not a rechargeable, but was a CR2016. Weird.
Open it and find out what's in it first?

Feeling too lazy even to bring up Flack's favorite tool in these circumstances.
I see one mentioned in Google for about $6 on sale, go get 'em.

Cool, thanks izzy! It's possible to de-solder that from the pcb, right? Or rather, how should one install it if it won't go in the traditional way?

You can always try your local Batteries Plus store in the USA.

Radio Shack (er "The Shack") might even have it.
Don't order from some UK site, jeez. From that Google search I mentioned earlier, smack dab in the middle of the page where Google always puts store results (at least in iGoogle): $5.99 (http://www.onsale.com/ttsvr/p/4266733?dpno=7352637&store=onsale&source=bwbfroogle)

I need to know, what style PCB does the battery slot on a Sega CD use?

None, it's soldered directly to the board:

(that's not a holder, it's the battery's tabs).

Batteries Plus sells batteries... AND they can custom spot weld the appropriate mounting tabs on the battery to make a perfect replacement.
They can also tell you if the battery you have is rechargeable or not so you get the right kind to go back into the unit.

Damn, I never realized Sega CD had so many capacitors.
Thanks for the help folks. I guess I need to order a loose battery instead of one that's in a PCB then.
