i found 2 first generation sega genesis awhile ago and i tried to get them both working once but failed. i was wondering if anyone knows if there is any comon problems with these systems? on both systems the power led comes on when you turn them on. on the one system thats all that happens. on the other system it makes the tv flicker.

Have you tried cleaning the cart slots on both of them? I've notice that the Genesis usually doesn't like playing games if the cart slot is even the slightest bit dirty. The system that just makes the tv flicker sounds like it could have a video issue, like maybe the cable your using or the systems video port is loose.

they both don't acuttually play the game i plugged my stereo into the headphone output and nothing. the cables are almost new. all the cable work and i have tested them with other systems. all the connections are snug and nothing is loose. i think there is a problem with the main board, that is more so what i was look for some help repairing. i figure since i have 2 of them i could at least fix 1 of them.

Sounds like the AC Adapter you are using is the wrong kind. Remember:
Genesis Model 1, Sega CD Models 1 and 2 all use 1 kind of AC Adapter
Genesis Model 2, Game Gear, 32x, and Nomad all use the second type of AC Adapter.

i know the power adapter on the first generation sega's are different than the second generation power adapters. the second generation power adapter is a completely different plug.
i found this picture and now both of them are doing the same thing now. they now both do half a white screen.

The Genesis I bought at a flea market recently did the same thing. I found this video to be helpful:

Make sure that your cartridges are cleaned up as well. My Genesis works like new!

I've noticed similar things with certain games in my perfect condition Genesis version 1. Simply cleaning a game will make the system work flawlessly. You'd of thought they'd of put some kinda error screen to show on the TV when games aren't being read...

I guess I'll post this one here, what can be done about the "fuzziness" of a game being played on the Genesis? I have a Model 1 in very good condition that was having fuzz on the screen. I thought it was the old RF adapter so I bought an unopened RF adapter and the games still came out relatively fuzzy. Is there something in specific that needs to be replaced/cleaned?

It's that RF really sucks! Our televisions these days are not as apt as ones in the past were with dealing with RF. You can either use an rca cable cable with a direct adapter to RF, you can purchase a modded genesis *cough*hey look whos selling one*cough* or you can get a pair of AV cables of ebay.

So getting a Genesis A/V cable will solve the issue, correct?

Yeah, the fuz is just rf interferance caused by the switchbox. Av cables would clear up the picture, and get rid of all the "snow".
