A couple of years ago I picked up a used PS2 and a used memory card. The memory card has printed on the case "32Mb Max". I think it is one of these: http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation2/4-/185343/Datel-Max-32MB-PS2-Memory-Card/Product.html

I've saved many games to the card, never having any space issues or bad file issues. In fact, I've never even looked at the memory management screen until this past weekend.

Over the weekend I visited a friend of mine from out of town, and brought a few games to show him. At one point he was loading up either God Of War or Katamari Damacy, and mistakenly brought up the memory manager screen instead of the game. I don't know whether he backed up, reset the machine, or turned the PS2 off entirely, but when he then loaded the game up, the game complained that there was 'no room to save data, and did we want to continue anyway?' .

If I insert or remove the card, the PS2 senses this. If the card is inserted, the PS2 reports it as having 0kb of space.

I've heard of there being corrupt files. I've heard of files disappearing. I've heard of memory cards dying, but I always assumed that if a card dies, it wouldn't even register as being inserted in the console.

Is my card simply dead, or is there anyway to revive it? It seems odd to me that the console DOES recognize the card when it is inserted, but sees it as having no space at all.

I have that same card, and it has the same problem. It won't save any games anymore, and it takes a few tries of inserting it for my PS2 to recognize it.

I've stopped buying third party cards (even though the large amount of memory is tempting) because every kind I've had has messed up eventually. All of the first party ones still work.

It's probably dead, the easiest (and most likely cheapest now the ps3 is around) solution is to get an official card

me and my bother have had the 16 MB delta max memory cards. they messed up it seems though and i got a 32 MB card with a 16 Mb sticker. these cards are sold at walmart, gamestop under there name, about every game store. my brothers and mine messed up (would corrupt when saving but you could load data from my card. brothers would just make corrupted data when you plugged it in.) and what i did was buy other ones and copy what i could off of the messed up ones and return the old one to get my money back. they have changed the stickers between the one i have and the new ones so you might need to change the stickers. be sure to do this at walmart or gamestop or something because they don't care really and they don't really need more money do they? way i see it is i payed for something to work and if it messes up why should i pay for that?
anyways i just use this max memory one for backups now because it is too much money to buy the sony ones. come on now. you can get 4 GB flash drives and stuff for $20? there is no reason that a 8 MB card should be over $20 still.

this was longer then i thought it would be.
