A couple of years ago I picked up a used PS2 and a used memory card. The memory card has printed on the case "32Mb Max". I think it is one of these: http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation2/4-/185343/Datel-Max-32MB-PS2-Memory-Card/Product.html
I've saved many games to the card, never having any space issues or bad file issues. In fact, I've never even looked at the memory management screen until this past weekend.
Over the weekend I visited a friend of mine from out of town, and brought a few games to show him. At one point he was loading up either God Of War or Katamari Damacy, and mistakenly brought up the memory manager screen instead of the game. I don't know whether he backed up, reset the machine, or turned the PS2 off entirely, but when he then loaded the game up, the game complained that there was 'no room to save data, and did we want to continue anyway?' .
If I insert or remove the card, the PS2 senses this. If the card is inserted, the PS2 reports it as having 0kb of space.
I've heard of there being corrupt files. I've heard of files disappearing. I've heard of memory cards dying, but I always assumed that if a card dies, it wouldn't even register as being inserted in the console.
Is my card simply dead, or is there anyway to revive it? It seems odd to me that the console DOES recognize the card when it is inserted, but sees it as having no space at all.
