View Full Version : XBOX Live profile question...can my wife have one too?

I have one Gold subscription and one 360. Can I create a second online profile for my wife? We would like to keep our achievements, etc separate. My guess is that a second gamertag will require a second Gold subscription...correct? I've Googled...but havent found an answer...

EDIT: I think I found my answer. Yes, a second gamertag will require a second Gold sub. According to what I've read.

She could just have a silver acct if she didnt want to play games online.

I just need to say that I have always found this to be a giant rip off. If you have a gold sub, you should be able to have at least 2-3 Gamertags.

You know, I was just thinking, "I need yet another reason to not buy a 360... Seriously." *golfclap* That is just way beyond stupid. X_x

Related question....

Can I change my default logon? I have an offline profile that automatically starts when I power on. I want to change it to my LIVE profile.

To answer the two questions here:

1) You can create an Xbox LIVE Silver account for free. This will track achievements separately, but she will not have access to the Gold content, which includes Multiplayer that uses the Xbox LIVE service. This is what I do with my fiancee's account, and we'll buy a 1 month Gold subscription when we want to play Xbox LIVE together for our co-op games.

2) You can change the default login profile. Log in to the profile you want to set as default, and do the following:
- Press the Guide button
- Scroll to the last window/tab on the right
- Select Profile
- Select Auto Sign-In
- Select Enabled

My wife has her own Gold account.

I use it to help boost games when needed.

I already knew about this, I never really took it into account when going 360 vs PS3 pricing, but yeah. Alot of people I know who have a 360 actually have more than one gold account because of other family members.

I think it should be system based. If the system has gold, than every ID used on it should be allowed to play online. The way they do it now is a fucking ripoff.

*edit*

Just think. When the PS3 Slim comes out at $299. If your wife, brother, sister, mom, dad, kid, etc, gets a second XBL Gold Membershipi, that $199 arcade unit is essentially the same price as that $299 PS3 except being an extremely gimped system with no additional features out of the box.

That's true, the 360 is more fun to play than walking around Home period. Home sucks. So yeah, no need to really state the obvious.

Just look at Microsofts exclusives lately, though. The good games are all multiconsole now except for the exclusives that look good, more that are coming Sony's direction than Microsoft's. Not to mention PS3 gets the exclusive playable Joker on Arkham Asylum.

We need to start a drinking game every time a Sony fanboy brings this up. You would get drunk in 10 minutes flat on GameFAQs alone.

It's sad in a way.

I dunno.. I just let everyone play with my account. I dont see a need for every family member to have "their own". :p

Turn on the darn thing and just play the game like it was a NES. :)

You know how much I hear it the other way around from 360 fanboys, even in this forum? It's nice that for quite awhile the PS3 has had an edge over the 360. Aside from the PSP and DS being my favored next gen systems, the PS3 is my favored console of this gen, so of course I'm excited that it's getting better exclusives lately.

Do you mean "better" as in the PS3 is getting better exclusives than it had it's first three years or "better" as in better exclusives than the 360?

This totally pisses me off when I have a friend over and we want to play online. Not all games have guest modes. I stick to PS3 versions of games if I know multiplayer is going to be a hassel on 360.

It hasn't been out three years yet. The PS3 has had better exclusives in the last year than the 360 has had. Also in the last two years has received quite a few of the games that were supposedly 360 only. Just think about all that DLC on Fallout 3 that everyone thought was 360 exclusive, atleast until the GotY edition came out and shows that the PS3 is getting it all as well.

The 360 hasn't been getting anything really worth getting in the past year. For atleast a year the PS3 has been getting better exclusives only for 360 gamers to mention Halo 3. If I wanted Halo, I'd have kept my 360. I know it's for the system, so why remind people that a crappy first party FPS is on the system. Same with the PS3 and Killzone 2 as a Halo killer. Both games suck, Halo or Killzone, choose one.

This post makes my head hurt.
Do people honestly sit around hoping and praying that certain games don't come out for the other system? Are people really upset that some other system gets DLC? There are people who point out that we shoud somehow be hurt by this fact. Are you fucking kidding me?
Does it really detract from enjoying a game by knowing it's also on PS3 or 360? Are people sitting around their TV's thinking to themselves, "Man this game is so damn cool! The only thing keeping it from being badass is that PS3 owners can play it...."

This phenomenon is so pathetic I don't even know where to begin.

That's how most 360 fanboys are. Check out 1 2P's last post, check out most of his posts when talking about the PS3. Alot of people at DP bash Gamefaqs, but it's pretty ironic that most of them do the same thing. Not to the same extent as alot of people at Gamefaqs, but pretty close.

You notice also how all the 360 fanboys on this forum start getting so defensive when someone starts talking crap about their system?

mezrabad

Yeah, it's disappointing that the 360 requires anyone who wants to play online to have a gold account. Some of the games made for the system supplement that by offering cool bonuses restricted to the gold account member that earned them. (such as perks in Call of Duty 4) What we do is have one account that we use online for games that have accumulating bonuses, and have a second "rebirthing" account for games like 1 vs. 100.

By "rebirthing" I mean we make the account sign it up for a free month of Xbox live gold. Use it for a month. Kill it. And make it again the next time we need it.

It is annoying that this workaround is even necessary, but then again it's annoying we had to buy another controller for the system just to play two player games.

Still, it's the most played system in our house. Maybe if we ever get the PS3 that will change, but I don't see the need for one just yet.

By three years I meant games it got in 2006, 2007 and 2008 compared to this year. Also, you spent an entire post saying the PS3 has gotten better exclusives than the 360 without naming any games. All you said was that the PS3 got some Fallout 3 content after the 360 already had it for awhile. Thats not what I call exclusive content, thats called timed exclusive content that eventually got released on the PS3.

I didn't say Fallout 3 was exclusive. I just said all 360's good exclusives are just timed.

Anyways. Here are some PS3 exclusives.

-Yakuza 3. Sure we haven't received it yet, and going by how good Yakuza 1 and 2 is as well as the demo, the game is obviously badass. I'm importing it if it doesn't come out in the US. here's hoping Europe gets it.

-Ratchet and Clank Quest for Booty
-Valkyria Chronicles
-LBP
-Wipeout HD
-Wipeout HD Fury(expansion)
-Demon's Souls
-Infamous

There's also Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 that alot of people like. Just like all the other exclusives I'm not lisiting, I'm not a fan of those so not really listing them, just throwing that out there as alot of other people like them.

Ones that aren't out yet.

-Batman Arkham Asylum Oh wait. Scratch that. Only Joker is exclusive.
-Gundam Senki
-Gran Turismo 5
-Duke Nukem Forever
-Last Rebellion
-Last Guardian
-God of War 3
-White Knight Chronicles
-Heavy Rain
-Uncharted 2
-Free Realms(Also for PC.)

*edit*

And also. The PS3 can import titles easily being region free and all.

Cryomancer
08-16-2009, 04:30 PM
Importing *shouldn't* be a problem on 360, as region coding is optional. Unfortunately, most of the decent games you would want to import are region coded (looking at you Japan). It's a publisher's choice, I believe. Ain't really the fault of the console itself.

Oh yeah, here, have some argument fuel, both sides:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_exclusives
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS3_exclusives

Really though, this fairly off from related to the original purpose of this topic. Even 360 owners have complaints about how live works, it's nothing new.

Not quite. The PS3 will never get Mass Effect, Fable 2, Left 4 Dead, Crackdown, Halo 3, Gears or GTA IV: Lost and The Damned. Those aren't timed exclusives, they are just exclusives. Theres a chance ME 2 and 3 might make it to PS3 but ME 1 is staying put.

Anyways. Here are some PS3 exclusives.

-Yakuza 3.
-Ratchet and Clank Quest for Booty
-Valkyria Chronicles
-LBP
-Wipeout HD
-Wipeout HD Fury(expansion)
-Demon's Souls
-Infamous

Those are ok for people that like them but Infamous is the only one I'd be inetersted in. And I definitely wouldn't say those exclusives are better than the 360's but you and I obviously have different taste.

LOL at you putting DNF. You do realize that DNF was in development for two systems and two systems only: the Pc and the 360. The PS3 would never get that game as an exclusive. As for the rest of your list, enjoy GundamLOL

There are some good games on that list, but theres no ODST, Left 4 Dead 2, Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Halo: Reach, Perfect Dark 64, GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony and Splosion Man. And if I was a fanboy I could easily say that Grand Theft Auto IV exclusive content easily trumps a playable Joker in a secondary game mode for Arkham Asylum anyday. But instead I'll just say that you haven't shown me any reason to believe the PS3 has better exclusive content. It has content you like(or just feel like listing) but the 360 has more content I like. And I will be getting every single game that I listed, they weren't just bullet points. It's cool that you love your PS3 but that doesn't mean it automatically has better content than the other systems. Just go enjoy the good games you have and be happy;)

Duke Nukem Forever was a joke. As it's never being released. That's why it's bold, italics, and underlined. However, from what I heard it would have been released on PS3, 360, and PC.

Alright. PC only. Doesn't matter though since it's never coming out.

I guess the speculation with the newer videos was that they would port it to the major consoles "if it came out." Though yeah, I guess I shouldn't have believed it anwyays. It's a game that died and they were working on it for how long? People could have said it was probably going to come out for the N64 and PSX too.

The 1 2 P

Alright. PC only.

Are you retarded or can you not read?

The documents originally filed in mid-May, show that Take-Two had asked Apogee Software (otherwise known as 3D Realms) if the studio could "co-develop" an Xbox 360 version of Duke Nukem Forever. Apparently, Apogee stated that they would agree on the condition that Take-Two "fully fund Apogee's reaching certain milestone." Take-Two was naturally hesitant, as over a decade of delays had still lead to no completed game.

Take-Two offered to fund half of the "concurrent development costs" on PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game however, "up through" 3D Realms hitting the "Alpha Milestone" of the PC version, with the remaining half to be paid upon completion of the game. Apogee rejected the proposal, even though they were contractually obligated to complete and deliver Duke Nukem Forever to the PC.

And yet you got "PC only" from that part of the article? Your Sony fanboyism is making you punch drunk with stupidity and denial. And though I never thought I'd say this, you are even making regular Sony fanboys look worse than they are.

Doesn't matter though since it's never coming out.

No shit. But the fact of the matter is that it was in development for the Pc and 360, NOT the PS3. I've been trying to have an adult discussion with you but you let your Sony fanboyism put everything in a negative light that isn't about Sony.

Our main difference is that I am a 360(and Wii) "fan" while you are a PS3 "fanboy". I don't go out of my way to put every non-Microsoft or Nintendo system(because I own both) down just because I don't own it. I can respect the systems I don't have for all their advantages while still liking the systems I have. But you? This is you in a nutshell:

I have a PS3 so everything exclusive on the PS3 is automatically better.

Those games are exclusive on the 360 so they automatically suck.

My PS3 games are on one disc and my online play is free so that automatically makes them better.

Do you see a trend? If you want to be respected by your fellow gamers you need to earn it kupo. I know you are a PS3 fanboy but you don't need to be an irrational dick about it. You can love your system without hating the systems you don't own. I'm specifically talking about the 360 because you probably own a Wii too and yes I already know that you use to own a 360 and it died on you. But guess what bro? You moved on to the PS3 and there is nothing wrong with that. But just because you no longer own or like the 360 doesn't mean you have to be in complete denial about every positive thing that has to do with it.
