SEE THE END OF THIS POST FOR AN IMPORTANT UPDATE:

In celebration of Genny's 20th, Sega has invited gamers to vote on the next XBLA release.
http://www.genesispoll.com/
Earthworm Jim got my vote. SOR would have been cool too...but I'd rather see SOR2.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Sega Genesis, we’re putting the power back in the fans’ hands and letting you determine the next title we’ll release on Xbox LIVE Arcade! Just pick from the Genesis classics below and cast your vote between August 14th and August 21st.

You can vote once per day, and you can come back anytime to check on how your favorite game is faring. Remember to cast another vote every 24 hours to help push your game over the top, or recruit your friends to stuff the ballot in favor of any one of these landmark titles. Then be sure to return to genesispoll.com on Saturday, August 22, 2009, to see which title the fans chose to see on XBLA as part of this 20th anniversary celebration! Remember: GENESIS DOES!

Earthworm Jim
46%

Golden Axe II
4%

Shining Force
11%

Revenge of Shinobi
7%

Streets of Rage
9%

Toejam & Earl
18%

Wonderboy
5%

EDIT:
There are only 17 votes & Earthworm Jim is no longer an option.
Hmm...

EDIT: Earthworm Jim on its way later this year. No longer an option in the poll.

Seems like your vote for the 20th anniversary Sega Genesis title to hit Xbox Live might not matter much, as Gameloft and Interplay announce Earthworm Jim for WiiWare, Xbox Live Arcade, and the PlayStation Network.

Interplay has granted Gameloft exclusive rights to develop, distribute, and publish Earthworm Jim as a downloadable title across the current crop of titles, as well as mobile devices, meaning an iPhone Earthworm Jim might not be out of the question. Gameloft is understandably delighted.

"We are delighted to partner with Interplay to bring Earthworm Jim to multiple downloadable platforms," said Gonzague de Vallois, senior vice president, Gameloft. "The game, with its humorous and edgy style, is a great fit for today's gamer who craves a fully immersive experience that is fun and easily accessible. We look forward to delivering a fantastic game."

It should be easy enough, seeing as the fantastic game already exists! And it shall exist again, sometime during the final quarter of 2009, with the Xbox 360 getting one-month worth of timed exclusivity.

I voted for Earthworm Jim too, at least today I did.

I wish they had said whether or not they were doing a remake or just releasing it because I'd love to see Shining Force remade.

Hopefully they're testing whether there's enough demand to release all of the titles. I've always wanted Toejam & Earl with online play, and Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection dashed my hopes of that. Speaking of, I have no idea how Shining Force, Golden Axe 2, or Streets Of Rage are getting votes, since they're already on the 360.

I voted for Shining Force.....I'd never buy any of the others....except MAYBE Wonder Boy

Unless I am mistaken, Earthworm Jim is the only game on that list that was also released on the Super Nintendo. It just doesn't seem right to me to pick that game to represent the 20th anniversary of the Sega Genesis. It just doesn't seem right.

My vote goes to TJ&E because I will always have a special place in my heart for that game

^This. After all, what better way to celebrate what "GENESIS DOES!" [that others don't] than by electing to release a game that was ported to about a zillion other platforms?

Also, no Streets of Rage 2? What-The-Fork.

Streets of Rage 2 is already on XBLA.

How about Streets of Rage 3, Ranger X Road Rash 2 or 3. How about Shadowrun since MS owns the rights?

I could care less for Earthworm Jim. It came down to SoR, Toe Jam and Revenge of Shinobi for me. Today's vote went to Toe Jam.

General Chaos or Mutant League Football or Hockey as my other EA vote.

I voted once about a week ago. Shining Force. Then I came to the conclusion on why am I even bothering to vote for these? Three of them are on the Ultimate Genesis Collection and all the rest except Toejam and Earl are one player. Makes no sense.

Plus it's all data. Atleast with Ultimate Genesis Collection you get a physical copy of them. Sure it's a physical copy of a collection, but it's still an item.

That's about what I was going to say. It hit the Genny first and was as much an example of what was possible in the generation as DKC was for the SNES. Earthworm Jim is almost completely a Genny memory for me.

They need to add a none of the above option, I have no interest in any of those titles due to owning them in numerous forms already, especially since they've all seen recent rereleases in recent compilations from Sega and on the Virtual Console.

If it has to be a Genesis title, how about some of the stuff they haven't already rereleased the past couple of years, such as their Genesis arcade racers like Super Hang-On or Outrun 2019 (Though it was included on a PnP).

What I'd really like to see instead of Genesis titles is more arcade releases like they did with Golden Ax and Shinobi on XBLA. I'd be excited to see things like Turbo and the Outrun series appear, or at least some Sega arcade title that has been ignored up until now like Golden Ax was before it saw a XBLA release. How about the arcade Golden Ax that never saw a home release that fans have been angry about for many years?

They should at least release already announced titles before talking about what's next. We haven't even gotten Crack Down, ESWAT, or Sonic & Knuckles yet after being confirmed for quite sometime.

Which Wonderboy? The Adventure Island-like one, or the arcade one with shops 'n' stuff?

I just voted General Chaos and Gain Ground.

How do I get those numbers? No idea.

Toejam & Earl, easily. As long as it gets online play.

Hell they should put an online co-op version of TJ&E III up in the on-demand section. Seriously TJ&E games rule a lot.

If there's even the slightest chance that TJ&E receives XBL online co-op, it will be absolute win. Got my vote.

Is Earthworm Jim the enhanced Sega CD version or the original Genesis version?

It really makes no difference to me as I want to buy the original carts anyway, but most of those games that everyone voted for have already been ported and re-released several times.

Leo_A

As far as I'm aware, Sega has never done anything involving Sega CD emulation, so I'd say the answer to your question is obvious. I doubt they'd do any extra work.

I just voted General Chaos.

Seriously. General Chaos was pure win and an awesome Genesis-only title. It was part of EA's console birthing along with their sports line and great PC ports.

Agreed with the WTFs for EWJ and at the very least TJ&E should be top spot.

I figured General Chaos would get some love. That game is awesome in so many ways.

I'd vote for Gain Ground as well.

If I'm picking an OutRun title, it's OutRunners. That would be awesome online!

Edit-I'm getting 403 forbidden as well.

Indeed. ANYTHING but these console games we either already have or can emulate easily.

Seems like a waste of the concept if you ask me.

Also, why do they have to run a poll to release just one game? It can't be THAT hard to get them going on VC, considering they're already ESRB-friendly.

T&E vote locked in. Honestly, I dunno why EWJ was even on that list.

It had nearly 50% of the votes, man...it belonged on the list.

Robocop2
08-18-2009, 11:04 AM
True it did get most of the votes; but EWJ was ported to just about every system known to mankind the other games were SEGA only. Being the only nonexclusive release on the list is what was strange and the high vote tally isnt all that odd considering the wide release/exposure that property got. I mean none of the others were made into cartoon series fer cryin out loud though a TJ&E or SoR cartoon would have been all kinds of awesome...

It's my understanding that announcement concerns a new 2d title in the Earthworm Jim franchise and won't affect it's potential rerelease in original form on XBLA and PSN.

Considering the original title is already available on the Virtual Console, it seems unlikely they'd port the same thing to WiiWare and release it in a second form on the same console. Has to be an original title.
