my local EB has a copy of Alone in the Dark for dreamcast in, and, as i don't have any at this point in time, i was wondering if the double jewel cases for dreamcast games are just your regular old doubles, or some silly double cases like sony has been known to use. thanks

I'm not sure what "regular" vs. "silly Sony" is, I guess I haven't seen many of these outside of the PSX and DC games. If it means anything though, they're of the same design. There's a black plastic tray between the two jewels.

by "regular" i meant the kind you would find an audio double cd in, whereas some of the sony ones will have one of the trays with no teeth, and the playstation logo on it instead...

The double for Alone in the Dark is a normal double, as are most of the DC doubles. The Shenmue Limited has a special internal thing to hold the five discs, and the Skies of Arcadia has a special double CD holder in a single jewel case thing that's unlike a standard one of it's type. Those are the only two weird ones that I know of tho.

sweet, thanks for the info.
reason i wanted to know is because EB stickers up their cases pretty nice, just wanted to be sure i could replace the case with as little difficulty as possible

Some of the PSone RPG/strategy games with really large instruction books came in double CD jewel cases without the teeth in the front half. The back insert and the top seal say how many discs are inside these type of cases. The outside of the PSone and DC double jewel cases are the same as the back piece of a regular single audio CD jewel case.

Legend of Legaia had something like that going on, but it didn't have a large manual (didn't seem that large, anyways). It was only a 1-disc game as well.

You guys are lucky you don't have to put up with DC's PAL disc cases. Once they break - there's no replacement!!! >:(

Yeah, I can't decide if those are cool or not... They're a bit wasteful for the one-disc games, but with instructions with 7(-ish) different languages, I guess there's no other way.

I also have a question about dreamcast (and psx) cases. Do these have the same cases as music cd's in the USA?

Yeah, they do. I'm still trying to find somewhere where I can get replacement double disc cases for all the cracked/stained/stickered double cases I get from Gamestop and EB. You can use the back side of single disc cases, but 9 times outta 10 they dont fit right.

Try a local music store. Soundwaves here has a large selection of cases: singles in several colors, single size 2CD, double-sized cases that hold anywhere from 2 to 8 CD's. Waterloo Records in Austin also has a great selection.
