I feel like this ought to be easier to track down, but Google and the forums search aren't bringing much up. Does anyone have details on how to mod the X'eye to output s-video? I've never done a video mod before so a detailed guide would be extremely helpful.

Find the sony video encoder. On pin 15, solder the positive side of a 220 uf cap, then solder a 75 ohm resistor to the other end of the cap, this is chroma. For luma, solder the base leg of an ( I use 2n3904, any kind should work) npn transistor to pin 16, solder the collector leg to pin 12 of the chip, and solder the emitter leg to a 27 ohm resistor. This last resistance value can be changed depending on how bright you want it. Feel free to test it out, I personally like 33 more than 27, although the difference is very faint.

Cool, thanks! Sounds simple enough, but... Well, I need to work up the courage to tinker with my shiny new X'eye! :)

I hope you are well practised. There arent many X'eyes to go around.

It's incredibly easy. In fact, any device that uses that specific sony encoder can utilize this same mod. Any genny model 1, some model 2's, your x'eye, and even some sony msx computers. I think the ps1 uses one variant or another of the chip as well.
