I'm heading into Louisville today and I was wondering if there were any good used game stores I should know about? Also, if you know any good ones in the Lexington area I'd like to hear about them as well(apparently Game Exchange and Play 'N Trade have closed down, I don't know whats left). By the way, I don't count Gamestop as a used game store, so don't bother listing the dozens of Gamestops around here.

You're screwed! There is nothing worth even going into in those two cities!

We do have a couple of decent spots on Bardstown Rd. MUST HAVE Music and More is a small shop that mostly stocks newer stuff (PS2 and up). The prices are great and the people are cool. It is my main stop.
There is also Book and Music Exchange, they have a much bigger selection, but a little more pricey. A good place to shop, though.
Game Force is also on Bardstown Rd, but it is way out near the county limits. They have a lot of stuff, but I don't make it out there enough to recommend strongly.
There is Toy Crazy (I don't know what it is with people and stores named "Crazy" around here) on the Outer Loop on the south end of town, but the store is wicked disorganized and you'll have to ask if you want to rummage through the locked glass case.
A guy in Radcliff KY, about 25 mins. south of the city, runs a store called Game Crazy. He has a lot of stuff for pretty much any system, but his prices are $1-4 over median, so I only ever buy the stuff I really want or cannot find elsewhere from him.
You can also try your luck at Goodwill, Flea Markets and the two Unique Thrift stores. Don't both with the Peddler's Malls....
Good luck!

I was in Lexington last weekend and saw the Play and Trade. I got really excited about it because I've never been to one, then really disappointed when I drove up to it and it was closed.
I don't know if you would ever go this far southeast, but there's a store in Manchester, Kentucky called Game King that has a great selection going back to NES. Unfortunately their prices are quite high on most things, so don't go looking for bargains. Still, you might find something that's in your price range that you might not easily find in the wild or at Gamestop. I bought some PS2 RPGs that I needed for my collection there and got a reasonable price on them.
They also have branches in Corbin and Somerset, but I haven't been to those so I couldn't tell you about them.

I second Game Krazy in Radcliff! My grandma lives there, so I always get to stop by that shop when I'm in town.
The owner there is a great guy, and his staff is very friendly too. He takes everything game related, and that includes imports, which he does have a fairly healthy selection of.
The prices are a lot better than at other places, but a few things are a bit too expensive than usual. (mainly older systems) The owner gives good deals on stuff too, so the store is pretty "deal-friendly".
Notable systems in his store include the V-Saturn, Red Sharp-Twin Famicom, and the special multi-region white PS2. (I think it's gone since I last checked.)
You'll be glad you stopped by. :)

Hello, thanks for your suggestions. I ended up visiting Game Force- which was disappointing, they had great prices but they sell anything rare on eBay rather than in the storefront.
Then I visited two of the Book and Music Exchanges and loved them. Sure, the prices were about what you'd expect, but they had a lot of games to look at. I ended up buying a copy of River City Ransom for $15(I've wanted it for awhile, though that is a little expensive) and a sealed copy of Seaman for $10(just bought a Dreamcast and couldn't resist. It a shame I had to break the seal though.)
It's too bad I didn't find out about Game Krazy until too late. I'll have to make sure to visit it next time I'm in the area.

Glad you were able to at least find something. Thanks for the tip about Game Force, I knew there was a reason I didn't make the trek out there.
Which Book and Music Exchanges did you hit?
Sorry for the bump, but I felt it would be more appropriate than making a new thread. Has the situation improved much in the central KY region? I live in Lancaster and am in Lexington 4 or 5 days a week.
Disc Replay opened up in march which is pretty decent, prices stay below ebay but nothing really unique or rare appears often. 3d games in the mall is garbage (nothing below five dollars, owned by the same guy who has a half dozen other shops for cell phone covers and sunglasses and RC helicopters).
There was an incredibly skeezy flea market i found near EKU that had nes for flat $3 but nothing really interesting after the first visit.
All the places mentioned above are 80+ miles away :frustrated:

All I know is I'd bring along a strong disinfectant before touching anything in KY.
Heh. Those flea markets can be pretty nauseating at times, though thats probably a combination of the odd smell and me trying to look in every direction at once. When there was a peddlers mall in Nicholasville it had a booth with games, but the new one in Lexington doesn't, the one in Danville doesn't except for some xbox and ps2 garbage. I haven't tried all the goodwills or the salvation army though.

That one that's run by the Middle Eastern guy? Set up as sort of a combination indoor/outdoor market ? The outdoor part is basically a parking lot and the indoor part is cramped and filthy. I used to go buy comic books from that guy sometimes. Always sort of an adventure because of his quirks, but he he had a ton of SNES/Genesis/NES decks for really cheap. And one time he showed me a Turbografx in a plastic tub with a bunch of games for $15, but I didn't pick it up for some reason.
Or it might have been the Peddler's Mall indoor setup. Usually that place is a bust, but I did walk out of there with like 10 Master System games, complete, for a dollar each once.
If anyone is ever in far eastern Kentucky, Page 3 Comics in Pikeville has a huge selection of old games. They have high prices to go along with most of the stuff, but you might be able to occasionally ferret out an acceptable deal. It's the kind of place with a glass case full of overpriced PS1 games, relatively rare RPGS though, that sit there for years. Until they have a half price sale and I buy some of them.
Yeah the middle eastern dude. Sammys flea market I think. It was advertised on craigslist so I went to check it out. So gross inside. I might go again if I am heading out there for the planetarium, but it didnt seem like he got a lot of new stock often (I could be mistaken, I just compared his nintendo stuff a few weeks apart). And i dont think he had a single genesis game that was not a sports game.

Sammy's. Thanks. I was trying to remember that dude's name.
If anyone is ever in London, Kentucky there's a giant indoor flea market there. It's not the greatest place in the world but sometimes you can get occasionally find good stuff hidden away in the booths. I found Guardian Heroes for Sega Saturn there for five bucks once.
