OH
MY
DEAR
LORD.

Please let this be as good as it looks. Not sure what to make of the cross weapon, is it also a whip somehow?

Those fights look incredible!

Honestly, as good as it looks, it's another 3D Castlevania and I haven't seen or played a good one yet. So I'm not going to keep my hopes up. If it was like sonic unleashed where it had 2D side scrolling levels, then I would be excited.

Has anyone actually played any of the 3D Castlevania games and thought they were good?

I enjoyed the first entry for N64, felt that while it wasn't a great Castlevania game, it was a very competent 3D action platformer.

While I never played the 2nd one I thought the first PS2 entry Lament of Innocence was decent. Nice graphics and decent Devil May Cry type play control (did every game between 2001 and 2007 play like Devil May Cry?).

Didn't LOVE either, but they were enjoyable romps.

I enjoyed CV64, CV LoD, and CV Lament of Innocence.

However, I can't say I really like Curse of Darkness other than the stealing from enemies and creating different items. The game played like Dynasty Warriors in a Castlevania setting which blows. Also, where LoI had alot of hallways and rooms, CoD had to make it more bland by having almost no areas were interconnecting. So the only way to make it all the way to this point on this area would be to walk through the entire stretch of the rest of the area to get to it. Lame.

i think many people just hear bad thinkgs about c64 and say it sucks just be be with the masses ;)_ I loved c64. the good thing about c64 is it didn't try to be a rpg.it tried to be a pure oldschool castlevaina, only 3d. for it's time, the muisc, open ended castle, the jumping challengees, recreated baddies/bosses and to overall feel was epic castlevaina.

I hope this new castlevaina ditches the newschool rpg gets back to pure caltlevaina goodness like 1,2,3,4 and 64

Castlevania 64 was pretty damn good back in it's day and from what I played of Legacy of Darkness (aka the expanded version of C64), it was quite the improvement with the added characters.

I remember forcing myself through Lament of Innocence, I found it pretty dull and boring for the most part. I got Curse of Darkness a little while back and from what I played of it I like it a lot better than LoI.

I'm looking forward to this new one, I always welcome a new Castlevania game with open arms.

Castlevania 64 was great. I recall everyone trashing it back in the day, but I thought it was pretty good. Legacy of Darkness was pretty much a remake, but with added story.

I was reasonably satisfied with the PS2 Castlevanias, but ultimately they were decent at best and could have been so much more. The limited and nearly non-interactive environments and bizarre plots really held the games back. They looked ok, but were not terribly addictive. I did like playing through with the Pumpkin guy and Joachim.

For me, Castlevania games need the (real) Belmonts or at least a character with a whip. SotN was the only game that deviated from this formula that really worked for me.

I enjoyed Legacy of Darkness, but found Lament of Innocence kinda boring. I'm digging Lords of Shadow presentation and voice work. I can't wait to see more gameplay footage.

I'll guess I'll play odd man out here and say I still think Castlevania 64 is one of the worst Castlevania games I've ever played. Lament of Innocence had a good main character and decent castle design, but the camera and clunky controls ruined it for me. CoD had much better controls than Lament, but the level design didn't do it for me.

Then there was that Castlevania fighting game, which I willingful passed up, so I can't comment.

yeah, the fighting game looked so lame that I don't even consider it a Castlevania game. I passed.

Consider me officially fucking stoked for this game.

I'm one of the rare folks that really, really liked Lament of Innocence.

I'm guessing you didn't like Curse of Darkness either then since you left it out of the post completely? If you liked LoI's awesome gameplay, don't bother playing as Trevor on CoD as you'll be extremely disappointed how watered down and altogether pathetic playing as him is.

Same here!

I actually loved the N64 versions as well!

I'm so preordering this...

I figure this game would be hated on by people over here. The game looks like a God of War clone mixed with one of Kojimas crappy plotlines.

Hey, Kojima's stories are sex. Except MGS2...that sucked....big donkey balls.

So odd, I kinda lump CoD and LoI into the game; they may as well be the same game to me, very similar.

And I really don't see why so many people are getting bunched up about this new game being like God of War. Wasn't God of War a pretty good game that everybody pretty much went nuts over? I don't see the big deal. Isn't Sonic a lot like Mario? As long as the game is fun and plays well, I don't care if it's a "Win, Lose or Draw" clone (well maybe a little, if it's like that...)

Wow, this game is enought to make Garry Shandling say "Patrick Stewart!"

Holy crap!

To reiterate my opinion of two and a half months ago...
Konami, you still have my attention... Really, really damn cool. "Kick Travis Touchdown in the nads and steal his lightsaber" cool.

I just watched the trailer and this game is going to be epic. It's the Castlevania that LoI and CoD wished they were, looks like the curse is broken guys.

God of War was a really good game, but it wasn't 'cream your pants epic' like everyone made it out to be. When I played it, I got the impression 'hey, this is just an average 3D platformer.' Just cause you can have a threesome in the beginning of the game does not make it truly epic.

I can probably safely bet my fantastic four comic book collection that this will be the same case. It'll be hyped up by people, and then poof, it'll just be an average 3D action game like CoD and LoI. Not going to get my hopes up for an epic 3D castlevania game. Castlevania III - that was epic; Castlevania SOTN - that was epic. Castlevania, Aria and Dawn of Sorrow; those were epic. All the 3D Castlevania games - not very epic, average at best.

LoI is not average. There are very few games that have gameplay as fun as LoI. You start off with a fairly limited set of attacks you can link into combos, but later in the game when you have the entire set complete, you have several choices to combo into. Add a single subweapon and multiple orbs to add a higher combo count into that.

I think it's got a fairly in depth combo system and the level design, while a bit repetitive isn't too bad and is pretty much built around the main gameplay(the fighting.)

While I have enjoyed the 3-D Castlevanias, I think overall the Gameboy 2-D platformers have been superior, even though they sort of devolved into slightly less good SotN knock-offs.

I really hope this new game can be the block buster the series needs. (I too greatly lament the demise of the Dreamcast game...sniff...)

So I went back and decided to play LoI again just to see if it was as bad as I remembered it.....I was wrong. I actually isn't that bad. It's not great, but it's a lot more fun than I thought it was.

The further into the game you get the more badass the combos.

Unfortunately, giving Curse of Darkness a second chance won't be as good because it just blows.
