Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I have a cord here that I'm not sure about. I bought it a couple months ago in a bag of various game cords.

One end goes to a game boy and the other looks like what belongs on a printer cord and I assume goes into the PC.

Any ideas what was this cord used for? Perhaps a game shark? There is no identification on it.

Thanks for your replies.

Is that a GBA plug? It could be something like this...

Very nice guess! That's for the Game Boy Gameshark. That's how you transfer codes and savestates between your Gameshark and your PC. I've got two of those cables.

It's not serial; that's the printer port. It always annoyed me that they used the printer port, because I always had to unplug my dad's printer to manage my Gameshark codes.

After all these years, I have finally seen a cable for a Gameshark (at least one I knew I was looking at). I was starting to think they didn't exist, or at least were very uncommon.

There indeed was a Gameshark/Action Replay cartridge released for the Gameboy that could be updated via the Internet. It didnt sell too well, nor were many updates ever released for it.
And the cable you have, is the one required to do those updates/sync with the PC.

I think there were updates for the US Gameshark. You just reminded me of when I bricked my Gameshark by updating it with the wrong update file though.

It looks a lot like the cords that are included with some GBA flashcarts.

I thought this thread might be a game idea, similar to the "guess the screenshot" thread and still think it might not be a bad idea. There must be enough random cords and cables to make a fun game out of it?

That looks like the parallel transfer cable for a device called the Game Downloader, made by Pelican. It was a legal "flash cart" that sold for a short time on store shelves. It included a cable exactly like that one... translucent and all.
