I was in Play N Trade the other night, and the owner had just got a complete Sega 16-bit hardware set traded in, being a Model 1 Genny, Model 2 SCD, 32X, and the extension plate (SCD) and shielding metal (32X only). He asked me what a Sega CD was worth, and honestly, I don't know a good price for just the hardware. I told him that I paid $90 for mine with a Model 1 and 20+ games including Sonic CD, and that I'd seen reports here of PnTs selling them for $20ish. I explained that the 32X is pretty iffy on value, especially if he didn't have the pass-through cable. He asked if $60 sounded reasonable for it all, which I thought sounded fair.

I've been wondering about it though. I've seen some Sega CD Model 2 units with $70+ asking prices, and I've seen them on the cheap side as well. It came with a Model 1 Genesis, which I believe he prices at $30. If the bundle includes the 32X passthrough cable, $60 might be a pretty good deal. If not, it's probably at least cheaper than buying a Genny and a SCD a la carte. The thing that really bothers me is that I'm not even sure if there's any real accepted value for these right now. Is there an expected range?

I would easily give 50$ for a working sega cd.

$30 is a stupidly high price for any model of Genesis. If he had the passthru cable for the 32x I'd say $60~80 would be about right, but without that cable the 32X is completely useless.

$50-$60 is the going rate for a genny cd combo, the model 1 cd goes for a little more, with the 32x about $75 i would say.

I think I sold a SEGA Trio console (2nd models) on Ebay for somewhere in the $70 range with a few loose Sonic games and Sewer Shock. I'm guessing the price hasn't changed too much.

The SEGA CD is what's worth the most in it so it is the one that bumps up the price.

That's not true... it's not particularly difficult to connect the systems together with ordinary wires, is it?

Anyways, I paid $7.99 for my Sega CD model 2 at a Play N Trade. I'm not sure how typical this is.

You don't need a separate power brick for 32X that way, but I get a bit of screen flicker.

I bought a Genesis 2/Sega CD/32X combo from a thrift (including the Genny/Sega CD store rental carrying case) for $60. In one way it was good and another it was a bad decision. Bad - The Sega CD resets itself in the middle of games. I have yet to finish any CD game because of it. Good - The 32X is the most stable one I own. I've got two others, but both were spazzy and froze the machine fairly often. This one, not a single problem.

i'd say $60. that's what i sold my last combo for and it took about a month. you might be able to max the price at $75, but it will probably take awhile longer to sell it at that price and everything (especially the 32x) would have to be complete.

I've been looking to pick up just a Sega CD and I can't seem to find one by itself. It seems like everyone who is selling Sega CDs tends to bundle them with a Genesis (which I have 3 of). Is that pretty much the trend, or can I still hope to find a decently priced Sega CD by itself?

I'd say about $70:

Genesis - $10-15 at best.
Sega CD - $40-50
32x - $20

Sega CD is definitely the most valuable piece of the set, the 32x you can't get much for, and Geneseses are dirt common.

Most people selling the Sega CD are getting rid of the Sega system completely. It's not like the 32X where the person comes to realization that the system is pure shite and so they sell it by itself. A Sega CD will almost invariably be with a Genesis, unless you purchased a CIB Sega CD. Doesn't mean that you will end up paying a lot of money for the Genesis/CD combo, but odds are you'll need to buy the both of them.
