I know for a fact that you could buy Zelda: Majora's Mask in Japan with or without the expansion pack (without, 5,800 yen, the package with it was 2,000 yen on top of that).

I never did figure out (and a prefunctory search on eBay didn't help much) whether or not it was available in the U.S. with the expansion pack.

I have never seen it with the pack in. I worked retail at a game store around release time so I doubt I missed it. If one does exist in the US I would be VERY suprised.

I've never seen either N64 Zelda game with the Expansion Pak included. As I recall, Donkey Kong 64 came with the Expansion Pak, but I don't remember whether or not it was sold without it.

Coulda sworn. Well, I'm not seeing it anywhere and all Majora's Mask carts appear to be the "hologram" (it's not a hologram but the name of the effect escapes me, and has been doing so for a few months now) front.

Well, that makes things just a wee bit easier, collection-wise.

Now the hard part: Getting both versions of Ocarina of time, both Japanese versions of MM and both Japanese versions of Ocarina (or is there only the one?)...

Now here's something else...I've been seeing the GC Master Sword bonus disc game described on eBay as "never before released in the US." From the number of times I saw this mentioned, I'm led to believe there was a Zelda in Japan that I didn't know about until now. Could this be true?

Oh, and the PAL Zelda packaing is...interesting. Bland, mostly.

This is just the 64DD game... the same one offered on the Japanese version of the bonus disc over there. Obviously it never came out for the 64dd...

I don't think there was a MM with an expansion pack, as previously stated. But there are ones with just a sticker on the front, instead of a "reflect-y" label.

That's what I thought it was. *sigh,* I'll have to pick THAT up as well eventually. Argh.

I can see myself dropping another $600-1200 on my Zelda collection (need consoles as well, and the price goes up a lot more if I can't find a BS-X in good time) and I've already got the 1993 cart release. Argh.

I just checked my collector's edition of Zelda: MM and does not have an included 4 MB expansion pack. I do know for sure Donkey Kong 64 had it included with the collector's edition of the game.

It would have been a good idea, too. I haven't played Donkey Kong 64 (though I obviously could if I had just the cart) but I'd think Majora's Mask would've been a bigger seller. Maybe not.

On the other hand, at least Nintendo made some games for the thing, unlike the 3D system.

The reason that DK64 came with the Expansion Pak is it was the first game to require it and they didn't want any customer service issues to arise from having to buy an extra item (learned that from Sega). I'm pretty sure that DK64 sold more copies than Zelda: MM, too.
