$20 seems like a good deal for that.

Anyway, the DP guide does have all Atari 8-bit computer cartridges listed under "Atari XE." The rarity and price guides for it are currently being overhauled, but it is still somewhat accurate should give you a good idea of relative rarities and values.

Also, some of the later games from the XE line may not work with the 400 due to higher RAM requirements.

if you have a disk drive that works, or feel like getting a SIO2PC option to use disk images... play Alternate Reality on that beast. AR = love. :)

This is just a guess, but I bet there are more games incompatible with XL/XE computers because they require the old 400/800 OS than there are later XE games that require ram the 400/800's don't have. I should look into it and see if I can get the 400/800 incompatible games noted in the DP guide.

If you're looking for the most compatible 8-bit, go with the 800XL. It will play just about everything and it's very common. There are a handful of games that have issues with the XL because of the OS change but there's translator carts and disks that fix that problem.

The 400 will work for most cartridge games but it won't play a bunch of them due to it's limited memory (16K when most of the more advanced games needed 48K and occasionally 64K). It also can't support a disk drive because that needs at least 32K IIRC. The 400 can be modded for more memory, but you're better off getting a different system as the mod requires some soldering.

$20 seems like a decent price it included some good games. I absolutely love my XEGS, there are some really great carts for the A8s. Enjoy! You can always upgrade to an 800xl or XEGS later if you want to play the incompatible games.

$20 is a good price.

Agreed, $20 isn't bad, considering no shipping aggravation is invovled.
