View Full Version : Would you trade a Punch-Out! for a Spy Hunter upright?

I have this trade offer on the table and I'm on the fence since I really like both games. I'm not very good at PO, but it's the only fighting game I have. I already have an Indy 500 twin and a Race Drivin' cockpit for drivers, but those are more simulation-style. Which do you think has more replay value?

I have a punch out too, but Ive never been a fan of it. Actually looking at selling it soon. I've always wanted a Spy Hunter so I definitely would.

I don't know about replay value, but ask anyone who's ever owned a Spy Hunter how long it ran before needing repaired before you make the trade. Those things are NOTORIOUS for breaking down -- in fact, it's one of the few games on my list of games to never, ever own (Pole Position's on that list, too).

I don't know about replay value, but ask anyone who's ever owned a Spy Hunter how long it ran before needing repaired before you make the trade. Those things are NOTORIOUS for breaking down -- in fact, it's one of the few games on my list of games to never, ever own (Pole Position's on that list, too).

The guy who owns it is fairly knowledgeable in repairs and making sure everything is running smoothly in an arcade machine. I think that helps ease my mind a bit.

I second Flack on the Pole Position (actually PPII) machine. I have 3 boardsets and only one is completely working.

is it because of the break factor?

I totally agree with Flack..I've heard Spy Hunter's are NOTORIOUS for breaking down...This would be a deciding factor for me..
I'd prefer to buy a working or project Spy Hunter right out and try to keep it in optimal operation condition..
The main thing with this to think about is..Can you get parts for it?
Are you good with fixing things/Arcade Machines..

I've always wanted one of these Spy Hunder machines..BAD..I'd die to have one of them..

I'd probably do it...Since I have some knowledge on Arcade Repair and because I want the Machine Bad..

I'm leaning toward keeping the Punch-Out, if for no other reason than it keeps my collection more balanced.

AFAIK, Punch Out cabs can be easily swapped/modded to play Super Punch Out, Arm-Wrestling and/or be a Play-Choice 10.

Not sure how much that means in terms of replay, and I'm sure that Spy Hunter can probably be modded out for another driving game, but it's some food for thought.

That's the first I've heard of the issues w/ Spy Hunter (I knew about Pole Position). It would be cool to start an index, something like KLOV, documenting owner experiences with various machines. Maybe something like that exists and I don't know about it? I've never been on the klov forums.
