So i have a $30 coupon for amazon video games and also a credit for $21 left over. I already pre ordered guitar hero 5 and will be getting van halen for free. I rarely ever buy new games, so i am looking for one new game that will have to last me for a very long time. What would you suggest, i am thinking the new call of duty right now. Halo is also a possibility but i am not so sure how i am going to like the new main character. what else will be good coming up?

If I take 'new' at face value. go with Modern Warfare 2. Other games that provide insane hours of game play are Street Fighter 4, Fallout 3, and Gary Shandling.

they are talkign about relesing new content for return of gary shndling: there is some epic real time cut scenes in gary shandling that last like 3 hours long where he just talks. you can't pause, you can't skip, in fact you can't even get up off the sofa....you are forced to sit and listen the the shandler ramble. tell me that's not next gen force feedback!? :) duel shock who?

I don't know, for Garry Shandling I think I'll wait for the GOTY edition. That way I can get all of the DLC for it on disc.

Yea, but the LE came with Dur Butter signed by the 2nd assistant developer's administrative dog walker. It's so hard to choose sometimes...

my only concern with modern warfare 2 is i still love world at war and think that i may not need another cod in my small library of games. I wonder how different it will be than the previous cod games?

Why not pick up something that has been out for awhile so it's cheaper. Knowing your game collection would also be helpful.
On either the PS3 and 360, multiplatform games win in my opinion. If you don't have GTA4, it's pretty much the definitive next gen title to own.
I know people will say San Andreas for the PS2 is better, but I honestly don't see that. It doesn't have as much offline content as San Andreas like making your character eat to raise stats, doesn't have as good of a world to explore after the game is over, etc. However..
GTA4 does pretty much everything right and gives you enough to do. The games shooting system has been tweaked to work extremely well for whether you want to play it manually or the ability to lock on. Car physics are now completely realistic. Storyline is the best in the series.
After you exhaust the main game, the online is amazing. There are a ton of different modes to play whether it's on Deathmatch or Team Deathmatch, to many different races to choose from, and a few co op online missions. You can edit for how much traffic or having all cars parked, what weapons are usable during the match, how much pedestrian traffic, and what area to start in or what race(out of around 20,)
I think GTA4 deserved all the hype it received. My favorite multiconsole game.

Fallout 3, you can't really go far wrong with it, even if you wait for GOTY.
As for GTA, I put far more time into my downloaded copy of San Andreas than GTA4 and tLatD put together... even after I'd already completed it once on the PS2.

You can play Mass Effect FOREVER and it's got to be cheap now too. You can expect to put some serious time into that one, especially if you like science fiction stuff. That's what I would recommend.

I agree that this would be the game to get this year.
If not, hit up Shadow Complex. Badass XBL game.

Games that will last you atleast six months would be one's with strong multiplayer components. Keeping this in mind, I'd say go with either Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3: ODST, Left 4 Dead 2, Tekken 6 or Perfect Dark 64.

Perfect Dark 64.
This is on the 360 now? I thought Nintendo wouldn't give it up.

It belongs to Rare which is owned by Microsoft. It's coming out this fall exclusively on the 360. You are thinking about Goldeneye--thats the game that would have been published on the 360 if Nintendo hadn't cockblocked Microsoft. For more info read the first post in this (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=132460) thread.

Sorry to be a party pooper, but it has been determined that this is a YARMAGFSX thread.
(Yet Another 'Recommend Me A Game For System X')
To the OP (and all else): DP has a Best Games For X System thread for every system. Want to see what people recommend? Go to those threads in the Classic Discussions forum. Hell, contribute your thoughts while you're there. Then, when you want to know what folks are saying about - say - the most highly recommended games for the ColecoVision, Vectrex, TG-16 or - gasp - Xbox 360, just check out the thread or bump it if you want new recommendations.
Gonna close this one up and point you to the Best Games for Xbox 360 thread already in progress (which begam Dec. 2007):
