Well, just invested in a boxed JP Dreamcast, finally! I've never really been into the Dreamcast, so I'm not sure about games, though I've made a little to-buy list;
Bomber Hehhe!!
Napple Tale
Border Down
Chaos Field
Frame Gride
Ikaruga
Psyvariar 2
Puyo Puyo Fever
Rainbow Cotton
Trizeal
Twinkle Star Sprites
Radiligy
Under Defeat
Trigger Heart Exelica
Rez
..but these games are pretty well-known for everyone. I'm looking for other games, less mainstream, you might call it.
Bring it!

Bring it!Aside from Puyo Puyo and maybe Ikaruga, since when have any of those games ever been mainstream (or cheap, for that matter)??? Unfortunately, I'm not a big DC guy so I don't have much more to add here. My most unknown DC game is Guilty Gear X...

Cool Cool Toon is a pretty fun rhythm game, here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6oQR2N1Ce4
That's my only DC import though, so I can't think of any more.

Get D2 if you like horror, action or RPGs since it blends them all together. The Japanese version is uncut, uncensored, and probably a lot better in Japanese than in English (haven't played the US version yet, but I haven't heard good things about the story).

Cosmic Smash is nice, though i've only played the Naomi version (though I imagine they play the same).

puyo puyo 4 is unique to japan, as fever was released on several systems in the US
i found Giant Gram and Giant Gram 2000 to be pretty cool
and sega tetris, though not my favorite tetris due to loose controls, does have monkeys, and monkeys always make a game better

I don't know how good it is but Toukon Retsuden was ported to the Dreamcast as well....and Death Crimson 2. Also, Zero Gunner 2 is fun too.

That's a nice list! I wish I had all those games....
Bangai-O is a good one to add to the list.

Frame Gride...mainstream?
God help me, I needed a good laugh. Thank you.
Now, there's lots of great games for the Dreamcast and you named off some of the most expensive titles. If you like import RPGs/strat games, I'd recomend hundred swords. Mars Matrix is also a good sugestion for shooters but that did see a domestic release. Like dating sims? Lots and lots of those available for the system. Not sure if any are actualy any good though.

Bangai-O is great, but it was released in NTSC-U/C. Probably cheaper than the pricey JP release.
I was thinking - what about Fire Pro Wresting D? I'm not a big wrestling fan but that game is a whole lot of fun. Fairly cheap, too.
Edit: Gundam: Federation vs Zeon DX is also awesome. It's just like the arcade.

Definitely a good list there. Another good non-US title for the Dreamcast is Shenmue 2. This came out in Europe as well, so can get an English language version which is nice. Yeah, it came out on the Xbox, but there's a way to bring in learned moves and items from a Shenmue save file into Shenmue 2, and there's something to be said for playing both on the same console 8-)

Zero Gunner 2 is not to be missed!
Yu Suzuki's Game Works Vol.1 is worthwhile, though I prefer playing most of those games on Saturn with the Sega Ages releases.
and Space Channel 5 Part 2 is easily one of the best games on the system (yes, that's saying a lot), but of course you can buy it on PS2 instead.

Gah, looks like I need some more help here. So far I've only been bothered to buy Ikaruga, Bangaioh and Jet Set Radio. Got the american releases of Skies of Arcadia and Shenmue too, but I really need some more japanese games. The games I listed in the original post are too expensive combined.

What could possibly be cut? I've got the US version, and I had to fight vagina monsters still. Poor translation I'd believe, but there was violence and nudity well present.
edit: Also chiming in for Cosmic Smash. And if language barrier is no problem for you, Segagaga!

Really? I'd always heard the battle at the beginning of disc 2 was censored in some way. I just got the US release of this game so I guess I need to go through it and find out.
As for recommendations, pick up Rune Jade. It's an excellent hack and slash in the Diablo (psx)/Baldur's Gate(PS2) vein. Just be prepared with an empty memory card, as the save file is fairly large.

Arr, I'm kinda stuck. I've only bought Bangaioh, Ikaruga, Jet Set Radio, Skies of Arcadia (US), and Shenmue (US) so far.
Thing is, many of the DC shmups were also released on PS2, and some of them are cheaper for PS2 aswell, so I don't really know what to do regarding that. Don't really know about the differences between the versions, as I haven't played any PS2 or DC shmup except for those mentioned above, plus RayStorm and RayCrisis.
