I was at one of my favorite game stores and came across a gba game with a whole bunch of japanese and in english the word pokemon. The label was a solid red. Now I have almost all the handheld pokemon games for US, but was wondering what this import was for 10 bucks?

I'm thinking it's a bootleg of some sort considering it has the word pokemon all over the cover and is only for $10 bucks, but i may be wrong.
If i were you i would get it and then sell it on Ebay, there's a lot of people willing to buy that stuff for good prices.

Regular black cartridge? Bootleg, all official Pokémon games are in colored cartridges.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team came in a gray cart.

I think the only one it could be is Mystery Dungeon, unless it's a pirated cart. Does the logo look like this?

The Japanese wouldn't call the game Pokemon, but by the Japanese name Poketto Monsutā (Pocket Monsters)

Does the picture have a deer on it? Jade version maybe?
If so it's a knockoff.

A lot of the more recent Pokemon games have the katakana as well as "Pokemon" in English - Diamond/Pearl and later show it on the box art.

it has just a plain solid red background, no pictures or anything, with japanese writing and the word pokemon on a regular black cart. Im leaning towards bootleg as mentioned and am kicking myself for not buying it. Pictures are not possible, as it is not in my possesion but at the store where I also bought the sealed jimmy conners tennis, that I have yet to get pictures of.

Please look at the link to the box art that I provided. It quite clearly says POKEMON on it. I realize that the katakana would be Poketto Monsutā, but it also clearly says POKEMON.

Well, if it's a knockoff it could have writing in Chinese, instead of Japanese... not to be a jerk, but can you tell the difference between the two? That would clear things up pretty quick I would imagine.

i couldnt tell the difference between english and japanese if i wanted to, jk. But it did look like the same writing from mobius's picture so I assume its jap.
