I don't want to hear about tempting. You better get your butt over here. I purposely set the dates this way just for you to accommodate your visit to Comic-Con/CGE

Well... I'm flattered heh. It didn't reckon with being possibly made redundant though... yeah, I'm possibly out the door shortly unless I find something else to move into...

After looking over all of the stuffs, I do believe I shall be there this year, and I'm lookin' forward to it. It's gonna be a blast, just as I would expect. It's been too long...

Just let me know when we get the "official" head count a-comin'. :D

Man, I'd love to go to CGE this year, but with the... ahem... magnitude of my body it would be impossible to get into an airplane seat. 8*)

If anyone's driving through eastern PA out to CGE I'd love to hitch a ride, would absolutely pitch in to gas and food expenses.

you could always pay for two seats, though that could be a little pricey.

intvsama

Even that's not a guarantee. If they overbook the flight people have to give up second seats and accept a refund.

I might come out this year dragging one of my friends from Raliegh with me as I plan on visiting the Alamo and Hoover Dam before coming to Vegas and then I'll be going to Cali afterwards to visit my sis

Any idea when the room reservation stuff will go up? I want to make sure and use the reservation code so CGE gets it's credit. I know it is early still, but I am a lock to attend and want to book the room by march/april.

Hotel info should be available in the next week. Just waiting for the hotel to set us up with a code.

Some advance info: Sun. - Thurs. $59 per night, Fri & Sat. - $94 per night.

We really need everyone to stay at the Tropicana, so we'll be offering up some awesome contests once registration starts. Stay tuned!

i'm about 90% sure i'll be there... i go to las vegas a few times a year and always for a week in the summer.

i stayed at the tropicana once and to be honest it was kind of a dump... pretty worn down. however, after i saw the convention would be there i read some recent reviews on expedia (almost all bad) and the management came on and responded to the reviews saying they are undergoing a huge renovation and it would basically be a completely different hotel come spring.

anyway, i'm pretty sure i'll be there and will probably stay for a week or so. i'll make sure to stay at least one or two nights at the tropicana and book using the cge code.

the tropicania can't as bad as the old place for CGE "The Plaza"
remember the esclator that never worked :)

GOLDEN KEYS

you are very right about that. i haven't been to a cge before so i forgot it was once at the plaza.

...and i wasn't trying to take a shot at cge's choice of hotels. i figured there might be some other people who had bad experiences with the tropicana in the past and wanted to mention that there is a big renovation under way.

i've stayed at my fair share of dumpy hotels in las vegas and even if it was at the plaza i'd still be sure to book there for the convention night. what else can convention goers do (besides booking at the hotel using the code) to help make sure cge does well enough that it can return in 2011?

I always chalked up that escalator as a reason to take the stairs. It's always that image I see when I think of CGEs past... that, and the scene of the line just beyond that waiting to get in. Old-school, run-down Vegas as it was, it was still a cool image for me.

But just my luck, staying in a hotel in Vegas without a poker room. Does that thought mark me as an addict? o_O

Even still, I'm lookin' forward to it! See you all there!

Once? It was at the Plaza until 2003. It was then in San Jose in 2004, San Francisco in 2005 before returning to Vegas (at the Riviera) for 2007.

John,

You should also add that we book directly through the Tropicana using the discount code, if any, to designate we are staying there for CGE2K10. If I recall, at the last CGE, many people booked through Travelocity, Priceline, Orbitz, etc. and those rooms didn't count towards the quota.

At those prices, you are not going to find much cheaper rates, so I advise everyone to simply register for the hotel directly so they know you are staying there specifically because of CGE.

Currently, the Island tower booked directly from The Trop is showing at:

Thu.
29
$41.95

Fri.
30
$79.95

Sat.
31
$79.95

Sun.
1
$49.95

The garden area is even cheaper, but no one should want to stay there. The towers are much nicer.

I would hate to see another Riviera fiasco. The room they gave me with the CGE code was the smallest room I ever stayed in.

That is always subject to change as the days go by. My point was that the organizers typically have to guarantee a # of room reservations specifically for the expo in order to get their rate for the hall. If attendance does not meet their guarantee, they will probably have to pay more, or may not be invited back the following year. In order to guarantee we get the # of room reservations, its best to go through CGE or register using their code, whatever that might be, even if its $10 more per night than say Travelocity or whatever. That way we ensure that CGE continues and is able to secure a venue for future events.

Looks like I'll be doing a nice long road trip. The cost for the flight being too prohibitive (I did consider going from Montreal to Plattsburgh NY then fly from there, but it ends up being about the same), I thought I could take the bus. Sure, it's a 3-day trip and it's not the most comfortable way to sleep, but at least it makes this whole trip a lot more affordable. :)

Either way, I will have to renew my passport in the near future, as it expires this summer (June IIRC).

Does anyone know what the schedule usually looks like as far as events going on at the show? I am trying to figure out if I will have time to bring my son(because who doesn't think Vegas is a great place for a 6 year old). My brother's family lives in the area and I can arrange to have them watch my son for an evening or two.

Last time I missed the auction. I want to make sure I get to that this year. The auction is usually Friday evening? Also, any other events(besides the saturday party) that I should make sure to hit? I am trying to balance time with my brother's family and the show. Anyone have a real rough idea of what the schedule usually looks like?

The Tropicana is showing it is sold out of rooms for July 29 through 31. I hope that is not correct, and that we can still get rooms. Anyone on the inside know what is going on?

I haven't called yet. Did they set rooms aside for CGE attendees?

Call the hotel directly (1-888-826-8767), and tell them you are with Classic Gaming Expo. I just booked my rooms through the weekend, and they still have slots left with the SCGE710 code. In fact, I was told that was the ONLY code that still had rooms available for Fri and Sat. The rest of the hotel is booked, anther convention and the general rooms are full.

For those that are interested, the other convention is Roller Con, a Roller Derby convention... That should add to an interesting weekend... :)

And, of course, DefCon is also going on that weekend...

That's ok. This is strictly for atmosphere. I'd imagine it's what an old Andy Warhol party would be like.
