Just out of interest, are there any collector's here who deliberately collect Platinum / Greatest Hits / Classics / Player's Choice rereleases? Those that have these kinds of games, do you have them because you can't find a black label version? Or do you have them as well as a black label version?

Does anyone specifically collect these versions? (Ie, are there any collector's here who specialise in collecting just these kinds of releases?)

As a general rule, I don't touch them. That said though, there are exceptions if I feel these versions contribute to the collection. For example, if I am collecting a specific sub-collection, then I may be convinced to seek out these versions for completeness, but usually only after securing a black label version first. Also, if a specific rereleased game offers something extra than the original, so an example of this would perhaps be V Rally (PlayStation) where the Platinum version offered analog controls, or perhaps Silent Hill II: Director's Cut (PS2), where the Platinum release has bonus material compared to the initial release

Is there anyone here with a dedicated sub-collection of these such games? Anyone proud to be a collector of those horrid green label Greatest Hits PlayStation agmes, or red label PS2 games? How about Platinum collector's, or Player's Choice fans? Anyone have a vast number of Xbox Classics games they wish to confess to?

For my part I don't particularly care which version I get of a game unless there are differences in content. There are a few exceptions though. I try to avoid the platinum hits just because the cases are so damn ugly. I also vowed never to buy a greatest hits PS3 game because I thought the red case was really tacky looking. I made an exception when I found Warhawk for a good price but of course as soon as I bought it I found a regular version for ten dollars. Pretty much as long as the actual case isn't a different colour, I will buy it.

I don't actively pursue GH releases. I do have a few and it doesn't bother me much. The reasons are two-fold; Either the game has added content the first/standard release didn't have (DMC3SE & Marvel Alliance SE etc) or, it was the much easier version to get a hold of at the time (Animal Crossing, Balder's Gate Dark Alliance etc). I will replace a GH copy I already have with an original release if it's cheap enough and the same in all other aspects other than the GH packaging. I'll also do the same from standard non-GH releases to LEs or steelcase versions if I want to bad enough and the price is right.

Basically, I'm in the middle. Not picky about it at all, other than display aesthetics, but even that is minor.

Collect Greatest Hits? Bah, that's an insane concept.

...

I have all of them but Digimon World 3 for PSX.

D-A-N-G-E-R-B-O-Y spells commitment. Wow. I knew you had, at least, a near fullset, but I didn't realize that it would look like that! Glad to know some of those found Lightspans got a real good home (I think I see them on the shelf). :)

I always try to get the original version but if I find a really good deal on the platinum/greatest hits/players choice version I'll pick it up. And I also will pick up the rerelease if it has extra content, like Virtual Fighter 4 Evolution for PS2. And theres a few games where I have both versions(Castlevania: SOTN).

I like most others prefer to have the black labeled versions if possible....but I don't have any issues collecting greatest hits versions. It's the content on the disk that really matters...not what color label is covering the case.

I don't really care as long as they are cheap. Funny enough Japanese prefer Platinum hit game more than the original. Price wise Platinum hit is quite the opposite from N. American & European. Japanese Platinum hit is actually worth more than original.

I wasn't aware of that. I should have jumped on the JPN GH version of SotN when I had the chance. Found it local too... :grrr:

For US games I only get the black-label versions (except for Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution). For Japanese games, I don't really care because the spine usually don't have different colors and they're much cheaper than original versions.

only if i am going for an entire set, i have the entire set of dreamcast all-stars games

i have a few for other systems, but i leave them at the tail end of the collection, it looks pretty sharp that way
