PlayStation:
Spider-Man manual (non-GH) - 99 cents at a Goodwill yesterday.

This Goodwill had a small pile of PS1 and Game Boy manuals for 99 cents each. First time I've ever seen such a thing at a Goodwill. Now I just need the back insert for Spider-Man and I'll have a complete copy.

Halo 3: ODST(360) $55
Gears of War 2(360) Complete version $19.99
Facebreaker(360) x2 Free

All of this was from Best Buy. Picked up Halo 3: ODST for full retail and got a free $10 gift card with my purchase. I then used that towards the complete version of Gears of War 2(which is already on sale this week for $29.99). So Gears of War 2 with every map pack released and the extra campaign mission was bought for $19.99. Not bad for last years game of the year. Both copies of Facebreaker were free when you print out the reward zone coupon. You can also get NFL Tour this way too. I just got them for the extra cases though.

Between ODST's firefight mode and Gears 2's horde mode I'm going to be very busy with multiplayer gaming.

My visit to the Salvation Army yesterday rocked.

I found:

$8 Commodore Vic-20 boxed with all packing and hookups, a boxed cassette drive and some boxed software with another eight loose cassette games

$3 Sega Master System II console loose without controllers and hookups.

Is it just me or does anyone else just love finding SMS II consoles in the wild?

A great day to say the least!

I'm seeing some nice finds in this thread lately so I headed out to do some looking and found:

http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/6284/img6150j.jpg (http://img29.imageshack.us/i/img6150j.jpg/)

From Thrift stores and Goodwill:
AD&D SpellJammer (vintage PC game) - $1. Includes the three 5 1/4" discs and some SSI literature but no manual. Not even sure if it came with one. I don't really collect old PC games so it's for trade if someone wants it.
Web Browser 2.0 SegaNet - $2
Batman Forever (Gen) - missing manual $1
Powerball (Gen) complete - $3

Movie Trading Co - buy 3 get 1 free games:
Rocketeer (SNES)
Super Battletank (Gen)
Roar of the Beast (Gen)
Soldiers of Fortune (Gen)

The one thing I passed on was a perfect condition complete copy of Sid Meier's Civilization for the PC from the mid-90's. It was $5 and I'm still wondering if I should have snagged it for trade as well....

GB - Mole Mania ($5.00)

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2009-09-23(01).jpg

This was actually purchased from one of my sisters. Lately I've really wanted to put some time aside and complete Shigeru Miyamoto's unsung take on the Lolo style games. Yeah, the label has wear but I was happy to complete the copy we all began on a long time ago. Granted, I didn't play it that much since it was theirs but damn, some of the later puzzles are intense.

I did end up completing it from a fresh file, took a little over seven hours by the in game clock. Excellent game and really perfect for the Game Boy. The world needs a sequel.

I came across a boxed and complete copy of Loopz for the Amiga. Any idea how difficult it is to come across any old non-PC software in this day and age? I actually had a copy of this game on my Amiga 1000 years back and never liked it, but just the fact that it's been well over a decade since I saw any Amiga software in the wild made me plop down the $1.91 for it.

I found a set of extra remote controllers for a Game Wave DVD player that someone at one point stole the batteries out of, but otherwise the package was intact. $2.99 at Salvation Army. Later, I came across a thrift that had a bunch of Intellivision games separated into three baggies, $2.92 each. Each bag had one game that I wanted, so I bought them all. Chip Shot: Super Pro Golf and Royal Dealer were two I didn't already have (even though Royal Dealer is common), and the white label AD&D and World Championship Baseball were just icing. Then I hit a Movie Trading Company and bought Super Turrican (Genesis), Moonsweeper (Atari 2600), Air Raiders (Atari 2600), and I got Popeye free because of their "buy 3 get 1 free" sale.

Good deals at Bookman's:

Conker Live and Reloaded (Complete) - $8

Genesis games - All cart only and $1 each:
Granada
Light Crusader
HERZOG ZWEI!

They recently marked all genesis games down to $1 and are pricing them all at that except for a few in the display case such as Shadow Run and Shining Force. I was really surprised to find Herzog Zwei in the dollar bin, have been wanting to play this for a while. Label is in good condition too! The other two just looked interesting and were only a dollar.

Ah, it's time for my annual gameage binge! Me and a buddy take a little road trip around Georgia and seek out games and weirdness. We were a bit more conservative this time around, but we both found some excellent deals; he found a bunch of boxed NES and Genny games for incredibly cheap (boxed Phantasy Star IV for $1.99!) and I did pretty well too...

Dang, porksta, you've been after those maracas for forever!

I had a nice couple of days. Yesterday I picked up the Zelda DS bundle with some other games off CL for $150. Higher than I would have liked, but I've been wanting a zelda one for a while, and I'll sell my blue/black one and some of the games to cover most of the cost.

This morning I was heading out to some sales, and basically got out of the drive, and less than a block away parked because there was a sale. And the first thing I see at the sale is a NES2 w/ some nice games; what I'd call the 'Core Set'. Also, finally I have Lolo 3! The NES needs some cleaning, but is in good shape. $40 firm.

I put the 100 spindle CDrs and ~75 DVDrs plus the ink cartridge because it was $2 for all three, no prices on them, but that's what she said when I brought them over.

Cornelius, I love your wallpaper, or whatever that blue thing is.

My Field Biology class field trip this week was close to where I used to live, so I left early hit the thrifts I knew over there. Forgive the crappy phonecam pics, I left my camera in the car.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2490/3951744590_624db2791a.jpg

Dreamcast games were $0.95 each from my first stop, NES and SNES games were $5 at the other place. Yoshi's Cookie is CIB, Wheel of Fortune has the box, styrofoam, cart, and Nintendo Power insert, but no manual. Super Mario World came with the manual and a universal game case.

Vinyl:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2532/3950966099_3394299f55.jpg
Whoohoo Kraftwerk! Also Thomas Dolby (saw his name in the synthpop thread), Billy Idol, Boy George, and Seventh Wave (not as good as I thought it would be...).

Vinyl and DC games were all from that place I always find cool vinyl at. They put some games out with the disks in the case, and keep some behind the counter. I actually walked up with Soul Calibur (no manual), Slave Zero, and Blitz 2000, but the girl behind the counter couldn't find the disks (maybe next time, I saw that loose FFVIII disk in the binder which they couldn't find last time). She told me I have good taste. ^_^

While I'm getting pics off my phone... here's a few interesting things I've seen recently.

No pictures right now, but I picked up a few things at a thrift sale this morning. I got Super Mario Sunshine, Tetris Worlds. Pikmin, and Mario Golf, all complete for the Game Cube for $2 each. I also picked up a sealed copy of Star Wars X-Wing for the PC. The only problem with it is that someone cut the price stickers out of the plastic wrap. That was 50 cents or so. The last thing that I got for another 50 cents was the Eidos Platinum Collection version of Final Fantasy VII for the PC. It is basically just a cardboard folder with the 4 disks in it. The discs are a little scratched, but for 50 cents, I don't really care.

NASCAR and Enduro were 2.69 and 1.69 at Arc's, where I also got a sonar tape measure for 1.69.

SNES was $5, and games were $1 each. The lady didn't have any ones, though. I mean, wth? who has a garage sale and doesn't get a crapload of ones? Anyway, worked slightly in my favor. The total was $13 (one of the GB games was in the GBplayer), and with the change she and I had we could only work it out to 11.80 or so.

Unfortunately, the SNES outputs a green screen and then the game is recognizable, but garbled. Anyone familiar with this problem?

yes I have a similar issue with a SNES i own. When I pause the game and come back everything is all garbled

Nice finds as usual, Cornelius.

This is more of a purchase than a find but I figure it's also a good advance warning to those who came up shorthanded last year.

Hallmark has in fact decided to release another arcade cabinet ornament to follow the Pac-Man one from last year. I don't think this was their initial intention since both last year's and this year's ornaments are not marked as part of a series, as they usually do with themed collections. However since the Pac-Man cabinet was one of their most popular ornaments last year, it makes sense that they would try it again. Yeah, it's early for Christmas ornaments but Paccy sold out last year pretty early and there's some actual advance buzz for this one because of the popularity of last year's ornament.

So here it is, 2009's Hallmark arcade ornament, Galaga...
(I snapped some quick pictures with one of the old cameras for the time being)

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2009-09-25(01).jpg

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2009-09-25(02).jpg

It's kind of a middle ground between the original and the more modern "Galaga style artwork" that shows up everywhere, heck I have Galaga sneakers that use the Galaga pinstriping. Then again, remember these are supposed to be ornaments inspired by memories of the games, not authentic perfect miniature recreations.

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2009-09-25(03).jpg

As with Pac-Man, pressing the button on the control panel activates lights and sound. The screen image and marquee light up. This one plays the Galaga starting music followed by the sounds of the game being played. The sound runs for about 25 seconds (ending with the sound of an enemy diving and destroying the player's ship) and the lights turn off after about 30 seconds.

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2009-09-25(06).jpg

Looks nice next to the Pac-Man ornament (yes I have two, one that stays out year round)...

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2009-09-25(05).jpg

And because I'm a total freaking dork...

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2009-09-25(04).jpg

...a few of those guys hang out on the cocktail table most days.

The lady at the Hallmark store commented that a lot of them have been sold. This both surprises me and doesn't surprise me. I knew they were going to be even more popular this year but the Hallmark store I go to is a small tucked away store less than two minutes from a huge heavily-trafficked Hallmark store.

Think I'll be picking up Ecto-1 next pay period (that's how I limit my spending on stuff like this, one a paycheck). :)

Come on Pole Position next year...

My brother found the X-Arcade at a garage sale for $50. He called me when he saw it and I said I'd pay him back if he picked it up. I ended up doing some stuff for him though and he gave it to me for free!

The games were all $5 each at 3 different pawn shops. Finding Tomba really made my day though. Always wanted to play it but I didn't want to pay $50+ on Ebay for a copy. Hopefully it doesn't take me another 8 years to find Tomba 2 now.

$18.50 is the list price, you should be able to get Galaga at any Hallmark store. Buy, buy, buy - the better it sells the better the chance of them releasing yet another one.

I'm kind of known at my Best Buy as the strategy guide guy because I have gotten hundreds of them from there over the years and atleast 60-80 over the past five months. Since they are usually never marked down, the Best Buy employees ask me which one's are on sale so they can take advantage of the price drop too.

I would have liked to have grabbed more of the Left 4 Dead ones because I'm sure they will sell. The RE5 limited edition and POP collector's edition may sell but they are both heavy hardcover books and their weight adds to the price and thus limits your potential customer base. This is why I only sold one of the limited edition Gears of War 2 guides....those things are huge and heavy.

I've been wanting FFVI forever, and I can't bear to play the PSX version with slowdown and awful audio. I'd be looking at about $45 for a complete FFVI Advance, so this was perfect for me. About 75% of the original shrinkwrap is still on it, but it's not sealed so I can actually play it. Came in a protective case, which is a pleasant surprise. The seller talked about a crunched corner, but it's pretty minor and just affects the barcode area. Whoohoo!

Went to a secondhand shop yesterday while waiting for the bus and found nothing.. "Oh wait, I'll just see if they have any weird magazines". But then they've MOVED the magazines to give place to computer and console stuff!
Saw some SNES and PS1 stuff in a basket and took the whole lot up to the register but decided to leave the PS1 stuff. This was what I came out with:

Aladdin (PAL)
Doom (US)
Jungle Book (PAL)
Street Fighter II (PAL)
Super Mario Kart (PAL)
Super Mario World (PAL)
Super Probotector: Alien Rebels (PAL)
Super Scope 6 + reciever
Toy Story (PAL)
...and one more which escapes my mind at the moment.

The best thing in the basket was not a game, though, but the SNES Universal Adaptor Upgrade Version AD-29! I've been looking for a way to play imports for a while, so this was a nice find. Too bad I have to work this weekend, so I can't try it out until Wednesday :bad-words:

Not bad garage sales today, not bad at all.

I woke up early for a community church sale. I found a beautifully mint Gameboy SP with 5 shovelware games for $10. This SP is awesome. It looks like it's never been played. It's onyx colored, so that's cool also.

I was browsing in a box of books at another sale and was suprised to find Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (NES, R4) and Faxanadu (NES, R1) in it. They were $0.50 a piece. I didn't have Home Alone 2 so it's always nice to randomly find games that are new to my collection.

Nice Finds..

I WISH I knew what causes that to happen with SNES systems..
..Right now I have SNES system on Ebay that has currupt screens during the intros and cut screens..

I can't figure out why it does that.

I'd be looking at about $45 for a complete FFVI Advance,

It's not worth nearly that much though, is it? I paid $7.50 for a sealed copy just a few months ago.

I'm sorry for not posting any finds lately, my computer was suffering from some necessary downtime. I added a new 640 GB hard drive and some new internal fans, and I also reinstalled Windows, so now everything's running nicely.

Anyway! Finds.

Wednesday:
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2009-09-23.jpg
Saturn games: $5 for all
Robocop thing: $1
PC game: Critical Path - $1
CD: Prodigy / Fat of the Land - $1
Vegas Games case - Free, I only needed the inner tray thing with the PS logo
Stephen King: Just After Sunset - $1
Photoshop 7 CIB: $5

Not pictured:
Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium Mac - $3 (sadly, registered, so it can't be sold, agh!)
Squeeze Box, Space Jockey (Atari carts in great shape) - $1, for trade

Strange thing about that Robocop thing. It's Japanese. And it's a model kit. For an ED-209. It's completely unused, but the box was crushed and opened. It's actually pretty cute to look at! I'm going to list it later in the week. Maybe a collector will want it.

Thursday:
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2009-09-24.jpg
CDs - $5 for all
Digital Image Pro 7 - 12 pesos (I didn't have any US change) :P

Friday:
I wasn't planning on going to the flea market, but I needed to buy a replacement IDE cable, because the one that my PCI IDE card had turned out to be really, really old. And while I was there... a booth ended up having a huge, huge, huge lot of CDs and DVDs in. I hadn't seen these many CDs and DVDs at one booth in a loooooooooong time! Lots of jazz, lots of 70's stuff. Unfortunately the seller wanted $2.50 per CD or DVD. Way too pricey but I still picked up some stuff.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2009-09-25.jpg
She cut me a deal and gave me all this for $16. YES THAT IS A BRUCE WILLIS ALBUM. SHUT UP. A good friend of mine who also hunts for CDs beat me to an Alan Parsons Project CD I was looking for, agh... I saw a ton of stuff I wanted so I told her I'd be back on Saturday. And so...

Saturday:
I went back there today. Right off the bat I found Super Mario All-Stars for $2 (for trade). I went back to the booth I mentioned and she lowered the price to $2 per item. I couldn't afford the complete Rippingtons discography she had there (really, TONS of CDs I wanted but couldn't afford because I miscalculated some purchases) so I only bought the stuff here.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2009-09-26.jpg
DVDs and CDS were $2 a pop, the Japanese dictionary was $1.

This particular booth had tons of other, weird stuff. I noticed some Japanese mugs in a box, including a couple of Kentucky Fried Chicken mugs o_O They had a chibi version of the Colonel being chased by a dog! If I happen to get some extra cash today, I'll go back and buy the stuff I left, plus those two mugs.

Yeah, I couldn't find any kind of deal in my area. Kmart had a few copies, but they were $30 until they weren't there anymore. It feels better on SNES anyway. Still, I want to see that new translation...

question: do i need the driving wheel exp. to play Turbo?

Yes, you need the driving expansion module for Turbo. The wheel is used for steering, the pedal for acceleration and the Colecovision controller stick (whole thing rests in the module where the pedal is kept for storage) is used for shifting.

Terrible day for the markets, almost no one there

Did find these though.

The PS1 games were $5 each, Mega Drive games were $8 each. No manual for Streets of Rage though

The X-Terminator was $9 and comes with manual. Quite a nice unit this one, has SFX pins so you can play NTSC SFX games

As far as gaming finds, the past week was very weak; none of the sales I hit had anything gaming related at all aside from some PC games I wasn't interested in. However, I still made off with some decent stuff.

- Evolution Worlds (Gamecube. Used in very good condition, missing instructions): $4

I played the first on my Dreamcast and liked it, so I had to buy it on Gamecube so I can experince the full game without having to find a copy of the sequel.

Non-gaming finds:
- Box of assorted computer stuff: $10
Highlights of the box:
- Dell Axim X30 Pocket PC w\ 3 docking stations (All fully working, missing stylus)
- Windows 98 Second Edition (Full retail version complete in box)
- Samsung DVD \ CD-RW drive

What sealed the deal on that box was not only that copy of Windows 98 (For my collection), but also the Pocket PC; I had been wanting one for ages, and now I can finally add one to my fleet of PCs. It may be missing it's original stylus, but I have plenty for my DS in storage, so it all works out (Even if it does look silly, using a PDA with a Pokémon stylus)

It's an amalgamation of the 2 games on DC, a very poor one at that. It is indeed missing A LOT.

Erasure's "Other People's Songs"

Good album.

I found NOTHING on my thrift run today. I saw an NES Zapper, gray, only $2, but I really don't need any more controllers right now. Also saw a nice Genesis arcade stick for $4, but I got a slightly nicer one for $10 a few months back. Most of the dancepads I posted the picture of are still there. The game bin at my church thrift has about four Sonic 2s in it now. My best "find" was a coax splitter at Dollar Tree.

Gamecube:
NFL Street (boxed) - $1

It's kind of funny that, prior to September, I had only purchased one Gamecube game (Blood Omen 2) since the beginning of the year, and I've bought three this month (the other two being Chaos Field and Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee).

I actually almost bought that one for myself, but it wasn't in great condition. Overall it looked good, but the metal edges were dinged up and there were a lot of scuffs on the plexiglass. Of course, it wasn't there the next time I came. Now they just have the crappy ones, and they'll be there forever, like the GameCube sitting near the front counter with no cables. After a few months, they stuck a PSX RF adapter on it.

I've been seeing that a lot recently. I saw an N64 bundled with Super Empire Strikes Back...
