Nothing much, it's 7 AM and there's a hurricane closeby, so I'm not leaving today. I have some finds from earlier in the week, but they're in the US because of Customs.

What did you find today?

my guitar hero 5 will be arriving today in the mail from amazon today, i consider it a find because i traded in a bunch of basically crappy ps1 and xbox games that were even badly scratched for $90 in trade credit plus the $30 extra promotion, plus a $10 video game coupon, and a $5 mp3 credit, can you beat that? not to mention i get guitar hero van halen for free when too.

I won some x68000 games off of Yahoo. Went way, way cheaper than I anticipated. I had no idea Ajax ever had a home release.

I wasn't aware it was ever released either. I used to love that game, but I gave up hope ever seeing a home version. Any good?

A couple of my friends just got back from Japan visiting another one of our friends who's over there working (I was suppose to go, but no money). They said they'd pick something up for me since I couldn't go, and they know I love video games.

They came back, and gave me my present:

Super Famicom, Street Fighter II, and Final Fantasy IV!

I have been wanting a super famicom for a while now, and now I finally got one! Plus, it was a gift, so it makes it all a little more special to me. Still sucks I couldn't go to Japan, but hey, at least got a really sweet present.

I went thrift hunting today and came home with... absolutely nothing. I did see THREE PSX consoles with 2 controllers each, marked $15/set at Salvation Army. I asked about games, but they said they didn't think they had any. Very odd.

The rest of my LaserDiscs came today, so I've alreay watched Blade Runner and half of The Crow. This batch isn't nearly as pristine as the others I got last week, with Blade Runner having awful scratches at the end of each side. This batch was about $23 including shipping, and the others included Terminator 2, Bill Cosby Himself, Star Trek VI (sealed), and Star Trek Generations. I've only put about $75 total into this so far, and I have a player and about 14 movies. It's so nice watching dark scenes without DVD macroblocking... ^_^

Went to a thrift store I had never been to before, and found nothing.

I did see a PS1 with a red sticker on it that said it was a store display and it had a wireless adapter in its port, any idea?

Found this neat art at a church sale.
Paid $2, and the guy was trying to get me to take an old TV with it "for free!!"
Normally, I don't go through frames/art at these kind of things for fear of the horrible tackiness that usually resides, but I saw this one poking out, and thought to myself, "that can't be Space Invaders? Can it?" Yup.
Figured it was a poster, but there's no date/copyright or anything on it, and it's actually like a firmboard, not a paper. Kinda reminds me of something that would be the cover art for an old magazine or something.
Anyone else seen this before?

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b48/SamuraiSmurfette/001.jpg

I really like it. Going to put it up in my game room for sure.

It looks like the art for a cheap multi-cart knockoff or something with Space Invaders, Pacman, Battlezone, Chess, and Star Wars. I think it's very cool as well and am jealous that it's not going in my game room...

Today I traded a phat PS2 and some random early release games for...

A 60GB XBox 360! Just got home to test it out fully and it works perfectly. Only thing is I can't figure out how to get a wired 360 controller to work w/ it. I got my wireless to work fine, but not the wired one. Weird. This is actually the second time I've traded a cheap console & games bundle for a 360. The first time I traded a Dreamcast & games for one.

I have no idea why this person even wanted to make this trade considering they could have gone to Gamestop and gotten something similar I'm sure.

I found a Pioneer Laserdisc player in a box behind my school sitting next to the dumpster filled with electronic crap. Passed it on the way to the bus stop noticing a bunch of cords and decided to stop and look. The rest was old computer parts.

I don't have cords or a laserdisc to test it, but am sure it doesn't work because our poor ass school still uses them!

Only cords it needs are standard RCA jacks. Go ahead and grab it and test it with an audio CD. If it's a Pioneer Elite or something, could be a very nice player.

From Monday:
I didn't really find much at first. I was about to give up when I saw a new guy and he had THREE BINS of NES games. He offered me everything for $100 but I didn't have that much on me (still don't). :(

I bought the following games for $30, and all are going to eBay:
Castlevania 1, 2, and 3
Ninja Gaiden 1, 2, and 3
Mega Man 2, 4, and 5
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out
Metal Gear + Snake's Revenge

They're all in incredible shape. Some cart and label wear, of course, but there's very little contact wear. He also had a few Saturn and SNES games, and two NES / SNES redesigned systems. I really wish I had the money to take everything. :( He said he'd be back tomorrow, so I'll see if I can pick up the stuff I left behind.

---
As for today, well, there weren't that many people at the flea market - neither booth sellers NOR customers. I think people got scared because of the hurricane that's down south. (Which hasn't even come close to us.) Anyway, I picked up:

A brand new 3DO Game Guru (crushed box)
Bowling (PS1), Windows 2000 Professional (CD + key) - $2 total
Mario Is Missing (PC) - $1
A Shareware game CD - $1
Three VHS to DVD rips (the guy had a suitcaseful of these, apparently they're from a rental shop). They were a buck each. I'm fairly sure these have DVD releases, but they were a buck so I figured I'd see what popped up.

Other interesting finds that I didn't buy:
* A TG-16 with AC Adapter and two pads
* A brand new Microsoft Works 94 + Bookshelf set
* Strider 2 for the PS1. CDs only. And the guy wanted $5 for each disc so I said "uh, no."

Should take you about all of 10 minutes to either:

A) replace the switch that is depressed by the door if that's where the problem is.

or

B) glue something onto the lid to make up the difference between it and the plunger that depresses the lid switch if it's coming up short.

I hit a bunch of thrifts but didn't find all that much. Half of this stuff came from classic game stores.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp222/StevePW/lots_of_sega.jpg
Pocket Simon (with a screwed up red button) $1.99
Mattel plug-and-play classic sports device $1.99
Iron Storm for Saturn $24.99
Punisher, Raiden Trad for Genesis - $9.99
Devilish for Genesis - free (since I bought two other Genny games)
Klax for Genesis - $2.99
Taz in Escape From Mars for Game Gear - $1.99
Ms. Pac-Man for Genesis - $2.99
Time Gal for Sega CD - $19.99
Road Avenger for Sega CD- $14.99
Vay (disc only) for Sega CD - $9.99

The guy at FX Game Exchange had a bunch of 'less than popular' game console titles stored in the back room, and he printed the lists out. Turns out they had Vay. He said it was only $12.99 according to the computer, so he went back to get it for me. When he found it was just the disc only, he discounted it to $9.99. I really like that place, even with the stench of the Subway next door filling the store.

Today kind of sucked because I came across so many places that have closed their doors. I went outside my regular thrift area, and found that three of the restaurants I wanted to eat at had closed in the months since I hit Denton, TX. Even the Piggly Wiggly supermarkets there shut down, which is really sad. One of those old-timey grocery store chains that are on life support, caught in the wake of Wal-Mart.

I was happy to find the two seasons for such a low price. Love clearance. I was a huge fan of the Magic School Bus as a kid, so it seemed right to try to get my Daughter into them. Yep, sorry dude. I honestly didn't find anything else worth buying there, and so I decided to snap it up.

Speaking of 'Buy 2 Get One Free' sales, it seems that everybody's doing it at the moment. FX Game Exchange in McKinney is doing it, the Movie Trading Company locations are doing it (although I've already picked the local stores clean of anything I need for the collection, so I haven't bought much), and the Play N' Trade in Arlington is doing it. Although the Play N' Trade in Plano wasn't yesterday, since I guess they were waiting for the weekend.

All I bought today was a loose copy of James Pond Underwater Agent for the Genesis, $1.99. Big whoop.

Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario 3 Guidebook- 25 cents
Case for Hot Shots Golf 3 for PS2- 25 cents

and here is the big score....

An Atari 2600 with about 12 games all with instructional manuals and an official case to hold it all in. All for 10 bucks.

Since I am living with my grandparents now and don't have much space, I had to put it in storage until I move out and didn't get a list of the games. I do remember there being Ms. Pacman, Star Fox, Pitfall and several sports games.

No problem, I was just giving you a hard time. The Plano P'N'T is doing the buy 2 get 1 free, but Rob doesn't really have any signage up. Any combination of PS1, PS2, Xbox, or Gamecube games are all B2G1. Now, this was a week or so ago, so it may have ended by now.

GP32 is a sweat handheld. The sound is pretty loud even in low volume. The only drawback is it doesn't feature backlight. I also feel the button is stiff when pressing.

Where on Earth did you find a GP32 in the wild?

I haven't posted in a while due to lack of income, but I found a couple of things at a local thrift today.

DS Lite charger - $1.99
Killing Floor (PC) - $1.99
Logitech mouse with USB connection (the only one in the store) - $2.99

Was Killing Floor on the 3DO? I can't seem to find any info on it.

Yesterday's finds, literally.

Free.

I rescued this stuff from our audio/video garbage bin at work. The top three have no manuals, but I will not complain as everything works just fine (other than the system asking me to set the clock every time? It saved my NiGHTS game...)

Now, to get an A/V cable and perhaps some more games! I've never owned a Saturn so any suggestions on games/accessories to pick up? :)

Stopped in at Goodwill this morning to look around and got a complete copy of Dark Wizard for the Sega CD for $8. This is the first time I'd found anything of note at that location, they also still had a complete copy of Dune and a soccer game for the SCD and a bunch of Genesis games.

Kitsune Sniper

Frontpage 2003 (Complete) - $6 (down from $10)

And... Bruce Lee issues 1 through 6 - $4.

I bought both these off ebay for $68 dollars shipped. They were two auctions, same seller. Low feedback and zero bids. No pictures with a wall of stock text. I already own both games but needed a box for my copy of DWIV. I'm going to switch out my DWIII cartridge as well. Then trade off the extras.

Nah, I'll find one eventually. Might actually be one at my local Play N Trade.

Well, I now have a Sega Master System in the collection. The bundle I purchased this morning for $14.99 at Value Village includes:

-An original model console (BIOS v1.3) and hookups
-Two controllers
-Light Phaser
-3-D Glasses (unfortunately, the adapter is missing)

I haven't posted an actual find in a long while (for me... about 2 weeks). Part of that is because the lamp on my TV/monitor went out, so I was on the other computer and it just messed up my mojo. That's all fixed now, though.

Yesterday I did quite well at a small sale that I wouldn't have thought much of by the look.
http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww75/evanwink42/Finds/finds185a.jpg

The Sony surround system was 5 bucks. She said her discs didn't always play, but it seems to work fine under testing, though I haven't watched a movie with it or anything. It sounds way better than it has any right to. Hopefully I'll be able to be using this in another year. Same sale had the Miracle Piano for $10. It is the Nintendo branded one, but has the computer cord, not the NES. Haven't tested it yet. I also picked up a pretty good drill for $5 and some nice but cheap bins for storing toys in.

Vandal hearts had an extra copy of the game in the jewel case at a thrift, along with VHII ($2.40 and $1.60). Same thrift had SM64 for $3.80. Tie Fighter collection was 1.60 at a thrift.

PS1 bag was cheap, new, and is for sale in case anyone here wants an unopened one. PS2 loose w/ 2 games was $20. Told it works, but we'll see. Midway arcade hits GBA game was a buck.

Garmin Nuvi 780 was $150, brand new off CL, and my wife has wanted one, so it was her anniversary present. I'm afraid this might have fallen off a truck, though...

Are these the original headphones that came with the Miracle Piano?

(insert awesomeness here)

Free.

Wow, nice!

My Saturn died recently, and my fiancé snagged a complete in box replacement from a local store, so we have an extra AV cable. If you would like it for the cost of shipping (it's about $4), just shoot me a PM and we can work something out.

As for recommendations - if your TV can handle it, get a Sega Stunner for Virtua Cop. Also, get a multitap for Bomberman in case you decide to throw a party.

If you decide you want to try imports, get either a mod and a 4MB RAM cart or an Action Replay 4M.

Domestic stuff:
Galactic Attack
Darius Gaiden
In the Hunt
Street Fighter Collection
Magic Knight Rayearth
Sega Ages (the cheapest of the Working Designs releases, contains great ports of Space Harrier, Outrun, and After Burner II)
Panzer Dragoon I, II, and Saga (Saga is expensive, but hopefully someone will make you a good deal)

Import stuff:
Vampire Savior
X-Men vs. Street Fighter (or Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, both beat the PS1 versions)
Samurai Spirits Best Collection
Silhouette Mirage (also spendy)
Dead or Alive (decent fighter)

Either US or Japanese versions work fine:
Fighting Vipers (JP version has Pepsiman)
Megaman 8 (JP version is, of course, Rockman 8. Sure, you won't be able to read it, but it's probably cheaper)

Now back on topic, my finds for today (no pics yet, sorry):

Book & Music Exchange, Owensboro Frederica St.:

Musya: The Classic Japanese Tale of Horror (SNES, complete, former rental, overall good condition) The front label looks great, but the back label, not so much. It looks like the previous owner tried to remove the sticker on the back, and most of it is still there. I know that if I try, I'll rip that back label clean off.
The Granstream Saga + guide (PS1, complete, overall very good condition)
Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army

Book & Music Exchange, Owensboro Triplett St.:

Speed Racer (PS1, complete, very good) Don't ask.
Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit (PS3, complete, very good) Don't ask 2: the sequel.
.hack//QUARANTINE strategy guide (overall good condition, all pages intact, has light fraying on the spine)
The Marx Brothers Collection 5-disc DVD boxset

Book & Music Exchange, Henderson tent sale stop:

Pilotwings 64 (N64, cart only, functionally good condition, cosmetically damaged label per the rules of the tent sale)

all for about $110.
