Why do people sell their games with out the orginal CD cases / with the original documents? I went to look for soul calibur for the dreamcast yesterday, and they had 2 copies selling for $19.99 each. Both of them were just the CDs only. I would consider paying $19.99 for a complete copy, but not just for the CD only. What do people do, get home, take the CD out and throw away the cases? I never did this with regular CDs, lets alone games.

If they are anything like me recently ex-roommate I wouldn't put it past them. The amount of mess that he lives in, he loses things all of the time. Many a time he's shown up with a cd and no case that was probably piled under all of his shit. And those people are usually the laziest of them all, so they most likely would not spend the time to search for the missing items.

I can completely understand not saving cardboard boxes back in the Atari and NES days. All my boxes got thrown out immediately when I was a kid. It's just not practical, cardboard gets damaged too easily. It's disturbing how many loose psx games there are out their though. I used to work at Gamestop, more than 1/2 off all psx games we had were loose.

I think it can be attributed a lot to children being complete slobs. Places like Blockbuster throw out the original cases most likely, thats another big contributer to all this.

In the future, I could see these games being worth big money in perfect condition. It's sad, but most people don't care for these games at all. Not only are people losing the cases, but the majority of games I'd see at Gamestop were also scratched to hell.

When I bought my NES games as a kid, I always threw away the boxes. I never really considered them worth anything, and at that age, who would? That kind of mentality could apply to any kid (and probably many adults as well!)

I can't explain why anyone would throw away an instruction booklet, though. That makes absolutely no sense to me. Even at the age of 6, I was smart enough to hold onto my manuals!

Strangely enough, when we moved into the SNES era, I instinctively began keeping my boxes. Maybe the Collector Gods were whispering into my prepubescent ears...

I always kept my boxes. I had 20 some games for my NES when I was a kid. I liked the boxes, they were all totally mint, I had the NES box and all instructions. Even the plastic bags. Then when I was 14 I sold it to my cousin for 50 bucks and he threw out everything!! I get mad thinking about it. Oh well.

When I was younger I'd put my PC CD-ROMs into a case (I saved the boxes and all packaging, though, I always do that) but it had two bad results.

First, the case was lost and while none of the discs were valuable (most missed are the Thief game CD, and most of the big name shooters from 1994-1996) it's annoying to not have a copy on CD anymore.

Second, taking them out of the sleeve turns out to put more wear and tear on them than just taking them out of a case. One of the big things is that they would get scratched by the cases' zipper edge.

I STILL get rid of most of the boxes I get...

The only reason I keep the cases for cd based games is that I can use them for my mix cds later...

Blockbuster (where I work) is actually pretty good about keeping the whole game. The new policy is to save all boxes/instructions. Some older 64/PSX stuff won't have the instructions/boxes, but everything for the newer systems at your local BB should be complete. If you don't see a manual, ask behind the counter - almost all stores keep the manual, but most only give them away with the used games if you ask.

Not keeping your new games in good condition and throwing away the boxes and manuals should be punishable by law! Even though my parents bought me most of my stuff i knew the value of money and how f'n outrageous those prices were even for used ones. I could have gotten some of my money back by selling them but over the years ive grown attached to them and now i couldnt never sell them away.

I've never thrown away a thing, even all the extra crap that comes with games. Even when I got my SNES when I was 10, I kept everything.

Then I cleverly sold my SNES and games.

*brilliant dreamcaster, just brilliant......idiot...*

the lazy/slob factor is probably the biggest contributer.

heres a somewhat related story:

17 years ago when my buddies and I all had NES's I had one friend who was one of these slobs. I'd go over to play games and he'd have his system and loose carts just laying on the carpet. the NES door was always open. the plastics sleeves and manuals were kicked under the couch, used as coasters or missing altogether. Me on the other hand kept all my boxes. My games stayed in the plastic sleeves with the manuals and were in those little Nintendo suitcases.

A few weeks ago I was at this same friends house. PS2 was on the floor, the games were all out of the cases in a stack on top of the TV.

Some thing never change.

My guess is that if he ever trades in games they'd be loose.

yeah it always pisses me off too when you buy a used game and it doesnt have the instruction booklet....what the hell do people do with them? use them as coasters? my friend bought animal crossing from gamestop used and it didnt have the booklet and that sucks cuz theres alotta kool stuff the book tells you.

Gamestop, or at least most of them here in MA, throws away all boxes/manuals when they're traded in unless it's a CD case such.

I CANT STAND THE FOOLS WHO DO NOT 1. Take care of their games 2. Throw away collectable parts of the game. 3. Complain when nobody wants their game. I recently went to a Game Crazy and a lady wanted a child appropriate game. After the worker(who was a cool old dude by the way) checked 8 discs, he came to the conclusion that nobody took care of their dreamcast game anymore.... That is the problem with the cheap format of discs.......easy to produce, and easy to destroy! For me that is why I will mostly stick to collecting the older stuff.....It may be hard to find complete, but at least the game will still work!!! :-D

I was just saying that last night how people could have the car games but no case (or in this case the case but lost the game)...anyway this is the story...I was at my neibhor who sold me his master system and has a bunch of sega genesis games Many have no cases and he has some cases but not the game which really pissed me off...And when he sold me my master system i got just the games but in his one drawer the cases were there i was like WHAT THE HELL! But i took the cases home he didnt care. And since he doesnt have a sega genesis i got him to give me Mutant League Football, Bubsy 2 and Vectorman all complete for free :) None are "rare" but Mutant League Football is R4
