Who doesn't love a game where you can kill innocent bystanders in?

First game I played that you could do this is Mission Impossible for N64 and I was pretty shocked that I was able to kill someone who wasn't going to fight back. I think you only had 1 bullet or something though but I was really scared actually that I killed someone who was "good"

Other games was The World Is Not Enough for N64. I remember the people in the game would actually fall and then try to crawl away but die shortly after.

There's a few more I can think of, but I didn't play them until recently.

Grand Theft Auto series of games has a lot of innocent bystanders to kill.

In Goldeneye didn't the game end when you killed Natalya? I haven't played the game in a while so I could be wrong (actually now that I think about, I think I am wrong)... But that's really the reason I left it off. I don't really consider the game allowing you to kill people if the game just ends right after doing it.

Noo @_@ I was afraid of that really.
I just think it's interesting that some games allow you to do this and not go with the *bullets magically passing thru* method. So it got me wondering how many games actually let you do this. I would actually like to make some kind of video with something pertaining to this theme at a later date, but for now I'm just mainly curious.

Syphon Filter 1-3 on PS1. Some of the scientist in the first game beg you not to kill them. The trigger must have slipped or something.

Yeah, you can't win by killing her specifically, but there are plenty of other random scientists and people in the streets just asking for it in some levels.

In the arcade version of california speed, there was a mall level where you could mow down innocent people in the mall. I thought it was funny so I bought the N64 version, and they took the running over bystanders part out

Any Light Gun game, but there is normally a penalty for it. Half life had scientists you could kill. Couldn't you hit bystanders in Twisted Metal?

Somebody killed the piano player!

*GASP*

Also, you could kill scientists in Goldeneye. In Secret Agent (medium) difficulty, however, you could piss them off with a non-fatal wound and they'd pull DD-44 pistols and grenades on you.

Hmm...too many games I've played recently have this in them, actually. I was playing Varth earlier and shot Ryu (SHORYUKEN!) for points. Also, Heavy Metal FAKK 2 ends the game if you shoot the dopey people, but you're actually SUPPOSED to murder and otherwise torment these little squirrel-like things called schglieks (or whatever it is) at various points. That's an animal abuse simulator right thur.

Even more obscure than that, there's Nosferatu by some Swedish developers which is pretty cool for a playthrough; save your relatives and friends from a vampire's castle. You can shoot them by accident, whopos. I think you can kill innocents in The Wheel of Time, Clive Barker's Undying, and others. I try not to but they usually get bumped off anyway.

Shadowrun for Genesis. My mom used to get so worked up that I'd harvest pedestrians for money and ammo.

And the Sims.

Ultima also. I used to love trying to kill the old people and the little girls in Ultima Exodus and then try and escape from town before the guards caught me.

Gangster Alley (VCS) but if you shoot the lady or the kid you pay for it!

Punisher (NES) same deal, don't shoot the sax player

Rampage (various) heck the goal is to eat the innocent people!

Ultima Exodus (NES), you can fight ANYONE, even old ladies and kids and wipe the floor with them, of course then come the guards...

Solaris (VCS) you can shoot the people you are meant to pick up, but they won't be happy

Defender (VCS) after falling from a destroyed alien craft you can just let those bad boys splat

Most of the LEGO games (Batman, Star Wars, etc.) let you take out your frustrations on various passers-by.

Legacy of Kain Blood Omen, Blood Omen 2, and Defiance.

I don't think it was possible to kill innocent people in the Soul Reaver games because I don't think there wasn't anyone that wasn't trying to kill you(or atleast I don't remember.) In Blood Omen and Blood Omen 2 there would be innocent people you can just kill. In Defiance there are people chained up in the first area that you could drain their blood.

SMT Nocturne and Final Fantasy 6

Two turn based RPG games you actually killed innocent people. In SMT Nocturne you sometimes ran into the Manikins in a random battle. In Final Fantasy 6, when playing as Locke in the part where he needs to escape South Figaro, you could attack a Merchant to steal his clothes, or kill him. There's also Vagrant Story but they're under control in that game.

Grand Theft Auto is pretty much based AROUND killing and robbing innocent people.

In the Halo games you could kill some of your A.I. controlled team mates. The way I see it, they were going to die from the Covenant's attacks anyway so you might as well give them an honerable death first. Atleast thats what I told myself to justify my random killings.

Also in the Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic series you can kill tons of innocent people as well as take their loot. But doing so would lead to the dark side....and give you less hook ups the next time you rolled back into town.

Someone already mentioned the Sims - and why I found it fun to build a little room with no doors around the character and watch it piss itself and die in there, I'll never know - and I guess I don't want to.

Road Rash 3D for the PSX allows you to run over pedestrians. They kinda work as ramps, sometimes.

I know, that was always...something else. But you need to kill the first one (the toilet girl >_< ) to get the item behind her. I decided I didn't need to be shot to get it.

Ooh, in Zoo Tycon you could let vicious animals such as lions/tigers etc free and let them eat your guests!

And of course build really dangerous rollercoasters on Themepark and watch your visitors go flying off... they didn't die though. :(

In Final Fantasy Adventure for Gameboy, if you hit someone in a town long enough they die and their last words are whatever it is they were programmed to say. It's more of a glitch than anything else, but it was a fun way of letting your frustrations out, especially if you were stuck on that damn island because of that "Oasis and 8" riddle for fucking 5 years.

Seriously, I got that game when I was about 8 and didn't advance past that stage until i was in 7th grade and someone told me what the hell it was I had to do.

The entire King's Field series.

In all US King's Field games you can go up to random people and kill them. In the two King's Field games for the PS One, it took many more hits to kill an innocent person than it did in King's Field the Ancient City.

You are only stabbing yourself in the foot if you do it though. These innocent people will never come back to life if you do this to them, and it may make it impossible to complete your game. If a character was supposed to give you an important item, you will not find it on their body when they die.

I don't know about the first Japanese only King's Field though. From what I hear that game is quite short so it probably doesn't have people in it, or very few if there are.

"Destroy all Humans 1 & 2" I guess this doesn't totally count as it is an implied part of the game, but there are people you'd don't *HAVE* to kill that you can.

I know, that was always...something else. But you need to kill the first one (the toilet girl >_< ) to get the item behind her. I decided I didn't need to be shot to get it.

You can jump on top of her sprite to get the item.

But "Sailor Moon" on the ship gives you items when you talk to her.

especially if you were stuck on that damn island because of that "Oasis and 8" riddle for fucking 5 years.

I hated that bs. Atleast until I figured it out. But yeah. When I first got it, I stopped there and didn't play it for a couple years, then picked it up later and got past it(after starting a new game and getting there again though.) The game is awesome now that I don't have to worry about that puzzle. Kind of like Wild ARMs. I'm a big fan of the Wild ARMs games, but you can be sure that some of the puzzles have pissed me off to no end.

Well since True Crime. Driv3r, Driver Parallel Lines, and Driver 76. Scarface the World is Yours as well, but only cops(anyone in the game that doesn't attack you Tony won't attack, but even if the cops don't attack you can still attack them.)

Although not technically people, in Jet Force Gemini, you could blast those tribal bears. You were supposed to save them, or you could dismember them with your bullets or grenades :)

Also someone mentioned Roller Coaster Tycoon. But you could also pick people up and drop them in water and watch them drown to death.

And in Rainbow Six games, you can shoot hostages you are supposed to rescue, although I believe you fail if you kill them all.

I didn't read the middle of this thread, so maybe it's been mentioned, but one of the explicit challenges in Choplifter was to not kill the innocents, so you could easily kill them there. More to the point if you kill the last remaining hostages after the others have been rescued, the Counter-Terrorists win, which is counter-intuitive! "Good" old exploit the CT team used to use all the time just to win matches. Don't remember if it still works in Source, probably does.

Felony 11-79!

In the 16bit WWF games you could punch the ref and knock him out, eventually he would leave. so that's not killing but was as fun.

I seem to remember you could kill innocents in Black Dawn for the PS1. Also Desert Strike and its descendents allowed you to mow down anything waddling across the screen.

Skitchin' for the Genesis allowed you to run people over iirc, but that engine was the same as Road Rash so it makes sense, aside from the thought of running someone over while on rollerblades going 45mph.
