Since it was nominated, and seconded in last week's thread (AND NOBODY LIKED MY IDEA FOR A FOOTBALL THEMED GAME...BUT NO, IT'S OK, I UNDERSTAND...I JUST RUN THIS THING, BUT NOOOOOO YOU DON'T GET WHAT YOU WANT SCOTT, YOU JUST HAVE TO MAKE EVERYONE ELSE HAPPY SO THEY'LL KEEP PLAYING EVERY WEEK) *ahem*, I feel it only right this week to go ahead and put Dead Connection up as this week's game (other games mentioned will be added to the random list 'o games I'm keeping).

Club Rules

01. You do not need to sign up for the club. If you want to participate, simply download the game of the week and post about it!

02. At the end of the week, I will randomly select a game from a list of nominations.

03. The current MAME Club Pick of the Week can be found every Monday stickied at the top of the Arcade Alley.

Dead Connection is a game I've never heard of before. It's a 1992 Taito game. Description of the game taken from KLOV. "A 1920's gangster shoot-em-up. Eliminate a certain number of baddies in order to advance to another location. Eventually, you will meet the big boss and kill him too." Actually, KLOV has quite a bit of good info about this game, so looking at this page may help players out a bit.

This is a pretty cool game, I've played it before. Shoot the hell out of everything. 'll give it a go again later tonight.

SOOO MUUUCH BLUUUUD

I'm not much good at this yet, and truth be told I always thought the single-screen arena format was a little claustrophobic. It does seem, by stage 2, that they are slowly adding things to the scenes to keep the destruction going longer, as Cabal would have you do. You'll note that the stage win conditions are essentially the same as Cabal's - number of enemies killed with the odd boss characters thrown in.

Incidentally, the date shown on the game (and Don Corleone's surprising appearance) suggests the later part of The Godfather (but didn't the Don die still in the '40s?), but the firearms include prewar Thompsons (note the fins on the barrel), as seen prominently on the Game Over screen - not to suggest this is anachronistic, though.

This is a great game, simple, fun, and loaded with the 80s/early 90s layer of engrish/cheese you can come to expect from indirect/knockoff american movie franchise games from Japan.

While the stages are a bit small, the birds eye view and ability to roll help with this quite a bit.
The weapons selection can make for a lot of fun as well. It's just a fun game to play.

Overall I have to admit I just love the motif as well. Games like these are like amusing B movies to me, the presentation may be bad in some ways but it makes it all the more amusing. And with Taito you usually get a winner on the gameplay anyway.

I've been pondering getting a PCB of this game on and off the last week and a half, and playing it more has clinched it for me.

Ok so Marlon Brando has gone ape shit, sent out Vince Mcmahon to shoot up some women and make the "men" resort to sadness and revenge and turn into the gangster version of the Power Rangers and start by fighting at Scarface's mansion, lol.

Kinda weird gameplay and a mix of a few shooters around that time "not as good though" with some table sliding and extra bits thrown in to add flair but really just make it a mess imo. Maybe the arcade controllers were better but aiming is a pain, though the environmental damage is pretty cool. Kinda funny when the boss goes rolling on the floor screaming help me in the first stage when you get right on him.

Also does anyone think the first 3 characters to choose from look like Nicholas Cage, Kevin Costner and an old Harry Potter respectively? Not sure about the fourth guy lol.

Thanks it was good for a laugh. Never heard of it before, don't feel like I missed much though other than an ape shit Marlon Brando.

Cool game, feels like a cross between Smash TV and Blood Bros. (I don't care if the latter was a "sequel" to Cabal). Speaking of which, Blood Bros. would be a good choice to throw into the hat for future selections.

I would go with Andy Garcia, Kevin Costner, Harry Potter and Harold Ramis if they had a 40 year old kid, and Christian Slater if he had been a Neanderthal Man

Just got around to playing this game. It's a heck of a lot of fun. I agree to it feeling like a Smash TV style game. I'm only just able to beat the first level, but it is definitely one I'll keep in the MAME rotation.

I've got to go back to last week's thread, and add in some of the requests that were listed, but we'll have a new game in the morning.
