I know Goo-Gone and lighter fluid are usually recommended, but are they the most effective?

Goo Gone has often worked for me on rental labels and the like, but it usually takes some time to get the label off cause it doesn't usually come off in one piece.

i'd like to know how to get crayon off carts, like my Kirby Super Star :) (this has been on for years ><)

For marker just use rubbing alcohol and a cloth or q-tip. If it's on a textured surface use something that is just a little coarse to get down in the grooves. Goo Gone works really well for stickers and the like.

I'm sure it goes without saying, but either way, be carefull around the carts label so you don't mess it up.

Rubbing alcohol will remove just about anything.

I have never used anything near as effective and less abrasive as goo-gone to remove adhesives. As long as your carefful with the label, you'll be ok. I have even used it on labels to remove other labels, and it's worked well. The trick is to put the goo-gone on the rag or cloth first and gently clean it away.

Permanent marker? I normally use a combination of magic eraser and alcohol. You need to be careful with a magic eraser though because it can smooth out the textured surface of a cart if you rub too much.

If you're trying to remove a paint marker, forget doing it without doing some sort of light damage to the cart.

Using GG, alcohol, and magic erasers I have cleaned everything off carts with minimal to no damage with the exception of that nasty paint marker.

Lighter Fluid will decimate label glue and doesn't strip plastic like (some) high percentage isopropyl rubbing alcohol.

I've never had any luck with Goo Gone or any other solvent.

Unfortunately Lighter Fluid evaporates very very fast, so you'll likely have to apply a bunch of it before your finished removing all the remaining sticker residue and for safety's sake you should neutralize any remaining fluid on the plastic with a bit of soap and water.

Markers vary ... if it's a industrial grade sharpie you might not ever be able to get all of it off ... but rubbing alcohol is probably your best bet.
