View Full Version : Is There A New Protective Layer Wii Games?

I have a disc resurfacing machine that removes scratches on old DVD's and CD's, but when I tried to use it on Super Smash Bros Brawl it looks like it is removing some sort of protective layer. Other Wii games don't do this.

I know BluRay games have this layer but do newer Wii games have it too? Or is Smash Bros some strange exception?

Maybe it's an oddball since it's a DVD9?

Some Wii games would benefit from a protective layer that prevents it from playing at all. This could be said for any system though...

Brawl is a dual layer disc. So you prbably shouldn't use that machine on it, you could run the risk of damaging the disc. As far as I know thats the only dual layered Wii game. Don't quote me though.

This makes sense. I bet with the dual layer disc they put a protective layer on it because the data would be closer to the surface. I will have to make a note of all the dual layer Wii games so we don't run them through the machine.

Thanks for your help.

I have fixed dual layer discs before, with no problem.

If it works on dual layer DVD movies, I don't see why games would be any different.

Yeah, there is a bunch of this in random threads posted tonight. All have signatures with links to inane crap. This one was the most over the top though.
