Does anyone know if RadioShack carries replacement 9-pin controller ports?

I need a new one for an Atari 2600 I am trying to bring back to life. It wouldn't normally bother me, but unfortunately it is the player one port.

http://best-electronics-ca.com/ carries the replacement part you need at a good price. Don't be scared off by their terrible website, they provide good service.

My first inclination would be to buy a cheap, broken unit and switch the parts. Also, it should be noted that at the time there was no standard for which port had Player 1's controller; somes games used the left port for the first player, and some used the right.

You do make a good point about the ports being inverted on some games, but I don't like the idea of buying a cheap broken unit just to rob parts off of. For the most part I try to fix the broken units, unless they are fried completely.

I have four 2600s, but only one doesnt work. The only thing wrong with it is the controller port from what I can tell.

I have learned that you need to be very careful when soldering the controller ports, because the pins on the port will melt. That's how I got into this mess to begin with.

Radio Shak is a lot more limited these days than it used to be. You may be able to find bare components and have to build a port yourself with Radio Shak's current stock.

A cheap broken unit is probably the best way to go.

As I recall, the 2600, like the Coleco and Genesis, uses a standard DB-9 connector. You can pick that up from just about any electronics supply store or website. Mouser, Digikey, All Electronics.... probably even Amazon.com if you like.
