I need help with this. Does anyone know of a diagram that is available? An explanation would be fine aswell.

All you have to do is connect it to the Genesis' side expansion slot, and then make sure that you have the power adapter for the Sega CD plugged in as well as the power adapter for the Genesis. That's it nothing more that you need to know.

Nope you just have either the RF or AV cables from the Genesis going to the TV, only cable running out of the Sega CD will be the power supply for it.

Depending on the model of the Genesis you're using, be careful not to mix up the AC Adapters of a Model 1 and a Model 2 have opposite polarities.

i'm also hooking one up and was wondering if i can use a different power supply with the Sega CD because i have the genny 2. i wasn't sure if any other adapters were compatable?

If memory serves, it uses the same AC adapter as the Model 1 Genesis, which has the opposite polarity as the Model 2 Genesis, so if you accidentally mix them up, bad things can happen (I think it can fry the voltage regulator or something like that).
