I'm so in the mood for a new platformer game. the last game i played was banjo kazooie and it was fun but i was kind of disapointed. i mean i would have rather had a full fledged classic platforming banjo but i will say banjo nuts & bolts sure was pretty. it would have made a amazing platfoming mario galaxy killing game.
I've been looking at Ratchet & clank future: tools of destruction. it looks fun! i've never even looked twice at the ratchet games but it kind of reminds me of banjo kazooie only with a cat and robot LOL. How are the graphics compared to banjo kazooie 3? dose it have the bloom, water effects and visual flare that banjo has?
What about spyro the dragon? I haven't played a spyro since ps1. worth a try? is it fun? i don't know how much of a platform game it could be.......it's more of a flying game right?
crash bandicoot looks okay but the levels seem so liner like the ps1 games. I like a open 3d playing field, coin collecting and jumping in the Mario 64 style. and yes i played mario galaxy.
Am I forgetting any games?

Well, since you're specifically asking about 3d platformers. If you own a PSP, pick up Gurumin. One of the best games for the system and one of the best 3d platformer games period. This one is like the one's you're mentioning, level based which you can go back and redo stages to find all the hidden stuff.
I haven't played Death Jr for PSP or Death Jr. 2 for PSP and Wii, but they seem to get mixed reviews. Some people think they're really good or really bad.
If you own a PS3 there's Uncharted Drake's Fortune. It's a platformer action/adventure. There are alot of treasures to collect too.
Brave Fencer Musashi and Threads of Fate for the PSX as well. These are some awesome games.
*edit*
Gurumin is on PC in Japan too.

I'm really looking for ps3 games. i guess that limits me to either spyro, ratchet&clank or little big planet. I think i'll try ratche&clank. it's on $29 and it look s liek a cross between banjo kazooie and jet force jemini. :)
since ps3 isn't bc anymore that pretty much leaves out ps2 games :(.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Devil May Cry 4 have platforming in those also. I didn't think of those previously.

If you want a strict platformer I wouldn't go for Uncharted, it's a great game but very action heavy.
It's a shame you don't have bc because the Jak and Daxter games are some of the best of all time =/
I never played the new Ratchet, but the old Ratchet's were more action focused and linear than like Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie.

Ratchet & Clank Future is awesome, reminds me alot of Up Your Arsenal and is a great platformer, actually need to get back to it. For new Sypro own it but for 360, really just scrated the surface but seems like a fun platformer of what I played, LBP is pretty good also. Remember new Ratchet & Clank game comes out at end of next month.....I can't wait!!.

A good rule of thumb is Ratchet & Clank = Awesome. My favorite PS2 games and the PS3 one doesn't disappoint.

Pixeljunk Eden, MegaMan 9, Bionic Commando Rearmed or maybe Crash Commando on PSN, although the latter is more of a 2D Quake style multiplayer deathmatch game than a platformer.
I recently finished Prinny: Can I really be the Hero (full title) for my PSP, which was pretty good but a few flaws kept it from being a true classic. Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins (PSP) also still kicks incomparable amounts of ass, if you haven't already played it.
*re-reads op* hmm... I just realized you're mostly after 3D platformers for the PS3, in which case I don't really have much to recommend. The Ratchet and Clanks though are always a pretty safe bet though.
